Ili'l-lll.l -" Send me a new trumpet Address: Anchorage, Alaska Robert Atwood, Alaska newspaperman and amateur musician, had just put his trumpet to his lips when the earthquake hit. Running outside, he found himself on the ground, arm and trumpet buried shoulder-deep in rubble. To extricate his arm, he had to surrender the trumpet. One trumpet: a small loss. Perhaps. The earthquake damage was confined, fortunately, to limited areas. Alaskans are fighting back. Engineer ing tests are being made to locate safe sites for rebuilding. Materials and equipment are pouring in. Despite a short building season, Alaskans plan to have rebuilding well along by Christmas. Ambitious. but very Alaskan I Alaskans are going about their jobs. In damaged areas, merchants are supplying their customers. Schools, hotels and public services are functioning. Alaska's splendid visitor attractions and accommo dations are open and inviting. Standard, too, lost heavily, but our service did not stop. Within hours of the earthquake, our products were supplying heat and energy to distressed communities. Today, even as we rebuild, they supply energy for Alaska's reconstruction. We've served Alaska almost 80 years. We intend to go forward. Bob Atwood's impatience to have a new trumpet is symbolic of all Alaskans' determination to recover life's amenities. They came north-by-west to build that life in their Big Land. They mean to get on with it. Their courage and optimism make all Americans walk ten feet tall. STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA O i JkiUW - - 42"x38V" Cases 2 for .99
