Charlie Beckett. Mrs. Orlan Wright, Mra. Hannah Anderson and Mra. Tousscnt Dubuque. Soroptimists Host Annual Senior Tea For Girls, Mothers .Senior girls and their mothers enjoyed a pleaHant afternoon Sunday when they were gueats of the lleppner Soroptlmlid club at a Senior Ten at the home of Mm. Jim llagcr. Also Invited were women faculty members, wives of faculty men and admin istrators. Crected at the door by Mrs. Harold Laird and Mrs. Wes Sherman, the seniors were pin ned with carnation corsages. The girls and mothers posed for polorold pictures on the oatlo, and were given to them as keep aukes. Photographer for the af ternoon was Jan Hagcr. A centerpiece of yellow chry aanthemuniH, the class flower, and white snapdragons flanked by white tapers centered the at tractive tea table. Food and other decorations carried out the yel low and white class colors. Serv ing cranberry punch was Mrs. Grace Nlckerson, ond presiding at the tea service wos Mrs. Loyal Parker. Both Mrs. Nlcker son and Mrs. Parker arc life members of the local club. Serving on the hostess com mittee lor the afternoon were Mrs. John l'felffer, Mrs. Jim Thomson. Mrs. Bill Collins, Mrs. Kd Gonty, Mrs. Charles Starks, Mrs. Km 1 1 GroNhcns. Mrs. Sher man, Mrs. Laird, Mrs. Nicker Hon and Mrs. Parker. Mrs. Hagcr, who had been 111 during the week, wos able to spend only a limited time meeting guests. Garden Club Views Corsage Making The lone Garden club met at the home of Mrs. Gottfried Her mann on Tuesday, May 12. Mrs. William Spoh n was assisting hostess. Mumbcrs answered roll call by otiotlng verses about flowers. Violet were CKpcclally mentioned, honoring Mrs. violet Gomn, the National Garden Club president, as well as represent Ing the spring season. Mm. Omar Blctmann and Mrs. Kdlth NkhoHon, program leaders, taught how to make comages of ribbon, which included the selcc Hon of aultable ribbons, wiring flowers to aid In arranging and holding, and tying bows. Mrs. Kletmann also demonstrated making beautiful roses and buds from IVi Inch ribbon. Officers elected for the coming year are Mrs. O. Lundell, presi dent; Mra. Ralph C'rum, vice president ; Mis. Phlll Kmert, sec retary, and Mrs. Omar Itletmann, treasurer. The next meeting will be held at the summer cabin of Mrs. K. C. Hellker and will be an all-day affair with a pot luck dinner at noon. Mra. Elmer Grif fith will Install the new officers and Alaskan pictures will be featured on the program. Students are Heard In Public Recital Piano pupils of Miss Marti Dixon were heard In public re cital at the McthodiM church parsonage Monday evening. May 25. at 7:30 p.m. Guest pianist for the program was Mrs. Virginia Turner. A piano duet "Invitation to the Dance," by Miss Dixon and Mrs. Turner closed the recital program. Students who participated In the recital were JuanKa Wilson, Luke I'adberg, Lance William son. Cathy Cannon, D-Anne Bar nett, Carley Bergstrom, Barbara Boycc and Krlstinc Peterson. -. Both of the young people arc graduates of lone High school. The bride-elect Is employed at Lois' Beauty Shop In lone and Mr. Davidson Is employed in lleppner. A June 21st wedding date is being planned. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Griffin and daughter, Sheryl, arrived in lleppner early Tuesday from Portland, upon receiving word that Mrs. Griffin's mother, Mrs. Jesse Griffin, was hospitalized here after being takfn suddenly 111. ECW Plans Public Card Party June 6 The annual observance of birthdays is the occasion for the public Birthday Card Party planned by the Episcopal Church Women for Saturday, June 6, at the Kpiscopal parish hall. The afternoon will begin with a dessert luncheon to be served at 1:13 p m., followed by tables of pinochle and bridge. Anyone in the community who enjoys an afternoon of social iellow ship is cordially Invited to at tend. Prizes will bo awarded at the close of play. Proceeds from ticket sales at I he door will be added to the kitchen remodeling fund. Furlongs to Observe Golden Anniversary A public reception will com pliment Mr. and Mrs. Scott Fur long on their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, June 14, according to plans being arrang ed by their son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. Verlin Matthews, and other relatives of the family- Friends and relatives are ask ed to come and greet them at All Saints' Episcopal parish hall, June 14, between the hours of 2 and 4:00 p.m. The golden-weds were married June 14, 1914, in Heppner, and have lived all their married years in and around this area. Week-end guests at the Archie Padberg home were their daugh ter, Miss Mary Evelyn Tucker, a student at Oregon College of Education, Monmouth, and Gor don L. Ross of Woodburn. They all enjoyed a day of fishing Sat urday at Bull Prairie, with Mary Evelyn and Gordon sharing a Joint birthday cake at the pic nic dinner. They returned to the valley Sunday afternoon. Spring Antics Used By League as Clever Theme to Entertain Panels painted with plnafored little girls, and boys decked out in overalls, amid scenery char acteristic of the season, carried the theme of this year's annual Girl's League Tea held Friday In the high school multipurpose room, "Antics of Spring." The theme was derived from the title of a one-act comedy play, "Antics of Spring," acted out to the enjoyment of all by a group of girls, under the direction of Mrs. Janet Groves. Over 200 women and girls at tended the afternoon program that began with a social hour. Mrs. Ed Dick and Mrs. Everett Struckmeier poured coffee and punch at a lace covered serving table that was graced with an arrangement of spring flowers. Guests enjoyed special Scan dinavian delicacies prepared by the Home Economics girls with the assistance of Mrs. Ken Rob inson and Mrs. George Luciani. Mrs. Ann Hlldebrand supervised the Home Ec. girls in the ab sence of Mrs. Grace Schmidt, who was ill and confined to her home. Susan Drake was In charge of the food planning. On one wall of the room, art istically entwined In a vine of red roses, were pictures of each senior class student On another wall were large, g&iiy designed letters, spelling out the theme, under which grew a garden of paper daisies. On the committee in charge of the decorations were Erna Winchester, Karen French, Carol Rawlins and Margaret Green. Seating of the new Girls' League officers followed the soc ial hour. Past-president, Phyllis Nelson, installed Tamara Smith as the new president. Miss Smith, with the assistance o' this year's officers, installed the remainder of the new slate. Hostesses will be Mrs. Ben An derson and Mrs. Evelyn Farrens. The Home Economics club of the grange will provide the enter tainment for this grange night.
