Many Residents Attend Easter Sunday Services By KATHEEINE LINDSTROM IONE Easter observances in lone began with a sunrise ser vice in the City Park sponsored by the junior and senior high classes of the United Church of Christ. Young people taking part in the worship service were De lores Emert, Louis Ortiz, Ber niece Matthews, Stephen Lind strom, Jim Jacobs, Charles Nel son, and the Rev. Walter B. Crowell. Accordian accompanist for the hymns was Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid and a special trumpet solo, "The Holy City," was played by Carol Miller. Decorations and seating were arranged by Bar bara Bishop and Robert Ernert and their committees. General arrangements were made by Mrs. F. T. Martin, Mrs. Norman Nel son, and Leonard Herrick. Immediately folio wing the sunrise service a breakfast was served in the social rooms at the church. Chairman was Mrs. Milton Morgan with Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn Sr., Mrs. Clell Rea, and Mrs. Omar Rietmann, assisting her. Several Rainbow girls help ed serve. During regular morning wor ship services at the United Church of Christ the choir sang "King All-Glorious" with the soprano solo being sung by Ter esa Tucker. St. Williams Catholic church held Easter service at the reg ular 9:00 a.m. time. Valby Lutheran church had an 8:00 a.m. service with a child ren's choir directed by Mrs. Don ald Peterson, taking part in the service. Following the church worship, a breakfast was served in the Parish hall. Carl Troed son was chairman of the cooks with Carl Bergstrom and the men on the Church Council help ing him. A large crowd attended. Rev. and Mrs. Walter B. Crowell are attending the Post Easter Re treat at Oceanlake sponsored by the Oregon Conference of the United Church of Christ. It be gan on Monday and will con clude on Thursday. Kim Lujan, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gil Lujan, under went a tonsillectomy on Monday morning. Party Honors McClintock Girl Suzanne McClintock, who is visiting her father, F. M. Mc 'Clintock from her school in Los Angeles, was guest of honor at a birthday party on Friday after noon, given by Mrs. Henry Krebs at the Krebs' Cecil home. She was fourteen years old. Guests who enjoyed the games and re freshments, were Jeri Krebs, Bon nie Hynd, Cinda and Whitley Smith, Leah Lane, Jane and Clint Krebs and Suzanne. Others present were Mrs. Lane, Mrs. Smith and Linda and Skye Krebs. Mrs. Krebs also had Su zanne and her father as guests for dinner in the evening. Mrs. Leo Crabtree returned on Wednesday from Colfax, Wn where she visited her daughter, Mrs. Alvin McCabe and family. While she was there, her grand son, Kevin had a tonsilectomy. Several Join Church Joining the membershin of the United Church of Christ at a Candlelight service on Maundy Thursday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers Sr., Berl Akers Jr., Bill Akers, Mrs. Roy Good row, Mr. and Mrs. James Linu say, Lewis Halvorsen, Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Lindstrom, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid, Milton Morgan, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harrison. Bonnie Akers was con firmed with the class on Palm Sunday, instead of Bonnie Hynd as previously reported. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker spent the week end at the home of their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Baker and children at Hermiston. On Saturday even ing they attended the concert given by the Willamette Univer sity choir. Last week-end the Bakers visited their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Larson at Moscow, Ida., and also visited friends at Kahlotus, Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Baker and Jim and Sharon of Portland were guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker for Easter week-end. They were accompan ied by a friend of Jim's, Conrad Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen drove to Portland on Monday to attend the funeral services of Frank Aughnay, who was man ager of Pacific Northwest Grain and Grain Products. He passed away suddenly while on a busi ness trip to Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Yarnell of Madras spent Saturday night and Sunday with his mother, Mrs. H. E. Yarnell. Mrs. Adon Hamlett and child ren of Fruitland, Idaho, left on Monday after a few days visit "with her mother, Mrs. Mary 'Swanson and other relatives. Attend Mrs. Brock's Services Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen and Mrs. Archie Munkers went to Salem on Friday to attend funeral ser vices of their aunt, Mrs. Nettie Brock. Mrs. Mattie Morgan ac companied them as far as her home in Portland. Also going down for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree and grandsons, Ashley and Jimmie, who are visiting here. They spent Easter Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. William Gelinas and son and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Crabtree and son in Portland and returned to lone Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor and girls spent Saturday and Sunday in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Smith and girls have moved into White's Apartments. He is em ployed at the E. M. Baker ranch. Ralph Martin of Oregon City spent Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Martin. Jean Martin left with her brother Sunday evening to go back to Oregon State following a week's vacation spent at home. Other guests during the middle of the week at the Martin home were Acacia fraternity brothers of Melvin, Pat Keely and Roger Avrit. Melvin and Miss Shawleen Holladay, who spent the holi days here, also returned to school on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rice drove to Pasco Saturday to spend Easter Sunday with , their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rice. Harland Lundell of Boise, Ida., visited his mother, Mrs. Oscar Lundell, on Tuesday and Wed nesday. Alton Yarnell of Lewiston ar rived on Monday for a few days visit with his mother, Mrs. H. E. Yarnell. Sorority Has "Come As You Are" Party Beta Omega Sorority arrived at the home of Mrs. Joe Hausler for the regular meeting, dressed for a "come as you are" party. The girls were called about 6:15 that evening and had to wear just what they had on at the time of the phone call. They al so wore hats they had made dec orated with gift items, which were later removed from the hats and sent to the Eastern Oregon hospital for prizes to be used for games the patients play. Mrs. Ralph Kincaid and Mrs. Carol Miller were guests and Mrs. Mil ler won the prize for the best "costume." Password was played during the evening. John Swanson and his friend, Bill Sears, arrived home for a few days vacation from school at the University of Portland. They will return on Thursday. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vester Hams and family on Easter were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Bothwell of Heppner and her sister, Mrs, Joan Warren of Pendleton. Several Attend Anderson Rites Memorial services were held for Alfred Anderson in The Dalles on Monday, with final commitment in Portland. Attend ing from here were Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Stefani, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Stefanl and Jerry and a number of other Morrow county residents. Mr. Anderson was an uncle of Mrs. Stefani and had lived in this county years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson of Portland were here to spend Easter with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carlson, and family. Bob Drake and his mother. Mrs. Cleo Drake, drove to Port land on Sunday. They returned on Monday, bringing Cleo Drake home from the Veteran's hospital in Portland, where he has been recuperating from recent surgery. Mrs. Arthur Boner of Phoenix, Ore., left on Monday for her home after a ten day visit with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Krebs, and family of Cecil. Rainbow Girls Visit Umatilla Susan Lindstrom, worthy ad visor of Rainbow Assembly No. 89, and Lee O'Connor attended a special meeting of Umatilla Assembly No. 69 on Friday even ing at Umatilla. Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom took the girls over. One of those initiated during the evening was Jean Ann Buchanan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buchanan, former residents of lone. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dixon of The Dalles spent Saturday visiting with Mrs. Oscar Lundell. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Emert have had as their guest this Week, Mrs. Emert's aunt, Mrs. Margaret Scott of Oakland, Calif. She left for her home on Tuesday. Other guests on Easter Sunday were the Emert's daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Hammond and Kelly of Hermiston, and Pat's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Boyer of Mt. Ver non. Delbert Emert spent Saturday and Sunday in the hospital in Heppner with a severe case of the flu. Jim Transsrud left on Tues day after visiting at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tews, and family. He is a student at Pacific Lutheran University at Park land, Wn. Relatives Killed in Plane Crash Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom, Sr., received word that her brother, and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McClain and three children had perished in the wreck of his small plane, while enroute from their home in Wichita, Kansas, to Basin, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Ekstrom left Sat urday morning for Basin, where tuneral services were held for the family on Monday. Roland accompanied his parents as far as his school at Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettviohn. Sr., entertained their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Jr., and family on Sunday honoring their daugh- terin-iaws birthday, other guests for dinner were their son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hams and son, and Mrs. Pettyjohn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Lundell. Week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Emert were their son, ram jr., and his triend. Yukinao Mijate, both students at Willam ette University. Yukinao has at tended three years of college in Tokyo and plans to attend Wil lamette for two years. He is majoring in economics. Satur day evening Phill and Yukinao prepared a Japanese dinner featuring sukiyaki as a surprise for Mr. Emert's birthday. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Martin, Jean and Melvin, and Miss Shawleen Holladay. John Krebs returned to his school at Victoria, B. C. on Tues day. He spent a 2V4 week va cation here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Krebs of Cecil. A seventh baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mc Elligott on Easter Sunday, March 29, at a hospital in Pendleton. She weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz. The baby also has four brothers. Grandparents are Mrs. Charles McElligott of Portland and Mr. Hiatt also of Portland. A surprise "Grandmo t h e r" shower was given for Mrs. Omar Rietmann by Beta Omega on Monday evening at the United Church of Christ social rooms. Mrs. Gene Rietmann assisted her mother-in-law in opening the gifts for the Gene Rietmann's new baby son, Chris, who also attended the party. Cake, coffee, and tea were served from a lace covered tea table centered with a blue parasol and white candles. Mrs. Gene Rietmann poured. Vacation Bible School Scheduled Vacation Bible school is being planned for June 8 through 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pre school children will attend from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The com mittee in charge is Mrs. James Barnett, Mrs. Robert Rietmann, and Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom and anyone wishing to teach or assist in any other way should contact one of the committee. A coffee hour is planned for the benefit of the Vacation Bible School fol lowing Childrens' Day Service on April 19, when the children of Church school classes will take part in the service and Rev. Walter B. Crowell will deliver a message especially for the children in the congregation. Willows Grange has a work day planned for Sunday, April 5. Members are to wear work clothes and bring tools and a sack lunch for noon. This was previously announced for April 11, so members please take note of the change. Dr. and Mrs. Helmuth Her mann of Lake Oswego arrived on Friday for a week-end visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gott fried Hermann. Other dinner guests on Saturday evening were Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Robinson lone PTA to Hear Arlington Musicians lone PTA will have on its pro gram on Wednesday, April 8, a group of musicians from Arling ton called the ' Misdemeanors. This includes Bobby Lee De- Spain who plays instruments with four other boys and a girl piano player. An important business meet ing is planned and discussion will be held on whether to con tinue the PTA in lone.
