HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, County Court Proceedings County Court met in regular session on February 5, 1964. The minutes of the previous term were read and approved. Cleanup Included In Lodge Activities Br DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON A Clean-Up day at the Lexington IOOF hall was held Sunday afternoon preceded by a potluck dinner. Cupboards were cleaned and dinner was prepared by the Rebekahs while the Odd Fellows cleaned the grounds beside the building, pre paring it for the planned park. Later in the day they cleaned the front room of the building to prepare it for a meeting hall at a later date. Those present were Mrs. Bertha Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Padberg, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Majeske, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Jones and Mrs. Florence McMil lan. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hender son and children of La Grande were Sunday visitors at the Alonzo Henderson home. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Palmer were Portland visitors this week, taking their daughter, Mrs. Ron Crabtree, and small son, Scott, to their home there. Scott has been visiting with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crab tree and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Palmer, and great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Marshall, for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kilkenny have returned home after a two weeks visit in Mexico City, Mex ico. They left from Portland two weeks ago by jet, returning home on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Cutsforth attended the State Democratic Convention in Corvallis last week. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Munkers and niece, Theresa Munkers, were overnight visitors in Burns on Saturday. Van Winkle and Mrs. Edna Munkers were Pendleton visitors one day last week. Card Party Series Ends The last of the series of the six card parties was held on Saturday night at the IOOF hall. Prizes for the series were given, with pinochle women's high going to Marilyn Bergstrom, men's high to Frank Robinson, women's low to Mrs. Elsie Ayres and men's low to Frank Turner. Bridge prizes were as follows: women's high, Mrs. C. C. Car michael; women's low, Mrs. Gene Cutsforth; men's high, Bill VanWinkle, and men's low, Gene Cutsforth. The prizes were ceramics made by Mrs. Alonzo Henderson assisted by Mrs. C. C. Jones. Plans are to start the same time next year and with a series of six games. Past noble grands of Holly A Heppner lodge met at the home of Mrs. Alonzo Henderson with a lunch eon meeting last Wednesday af ternoon. Plans for the April 8 meeting were discussed. At this time Lexington is planning to entertain Heppner PNG club of San Souci. Those present were Mrs. William Smethurst, Mrs. Merle Cornelison, Mrs. Oris Pad berg, Mrs. Archie Munkers, Mrs. Florence McMillan and the hos tess and co-hostess, Mrs. C. C. Jones. Holly Rebekah lodge met last Thursday night for its regular meeting. At this time the char ter was draped in honor of Mrs. Helen Christianson Brown of Monument. This was done by the following members dressed in white carrying the pink roses: Mrs. William Smethurst, Mrs. Florence McMillan, Mrs. Archie Munkers, Mrs. Charles Colley, Mrs. Joe Yocom and Mrs. Charlie Padberg. Following the meeting games were played and later refreshments were served both the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs in the dining room. The tables were decorated In a clever St. Patrick motif with the dessert being green pie with white top ping. Mrs. Edward Hunt and Mrs. Charles Colley motored to Grass Valley on Tuesday where they attended the funeral service of A. W. McLeod. Mrs. Bertha Hunt has been confined to her home this week by illness. Mrs. A. F. Majeske has been confined to her home this week due to illness. Group To Have Speaker Women's Fellowship Group is scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 17, with Mrs. Effie Ritchie of Milton-Freewater as speaker. Members and friends are urged to be present. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Messenger, Sr., of Mitchell spent the week end in Lexington visiting with their daughters and families. Mrs. Bill B. Marquardt has been on the sick list the past couple of weeks. Along with the auction and barbecue will be the popular stage coach rides with Buck Lieuallen and his palomino driv ing team and bargains galore on the silent suction table. Also there will be the snack bar open all day. Anyone wishing to do nate services or merchandise for the auction may list their con tributions with Lindsay Kincaid, chairman of the merchandise committee (phone 422-7418) or list at Bristow's Market. Committee chairmen for the event are: Bob Jepsen, general chairman; Alfred Nelson Jr., vice-chairman and barb e c u e committee; Mrs. Norman Nelson and Mrs. Ella Burgoyne, snack bar and silent auction commit tee; Lindsay Kincaid, merchan dise, Mrs. Cecil Thome, dinner; and John Jepsen, arrangements committee. Knitting Club Meets The 4-H meeting of Bee's Busy Buddies was held at Mrs. Ewing Hynd's home on Friday, March 6. Jane Krebs demonstra ted how to cast on knitting stitches. I demonstrated how I made my knitted hat. Clint Krebs was in charge of recreation. The name of the game we played was My Old Indian. We meet again Friday, March 13. Marlene Magill, reporter Phone 676 Boardman News A National School Assembly was presented at the school last Wednesday by Ed Schetter on physical fitness. His program gave the history behind Yoga, what it consist of and where it comes from. He brought to light many of the false Ideas connected with it. "Yoga presents a physical fit ness program for all ages," Schetter stated, and he not only tells aboutit, but demonstrates these almost impossible exer cises, highlighted by a program of simple exercises you can do yourself. Mrs. Elmer Messenger was hostess for the Ladles Aid Soc iety of Community church at her home Wednesday afternoon of last week, with Mrs. Leo Potts as co-hostess. Rev. Wallace Bell had charge of the missionary lesson, taking as his topic, "Be Thankful." The Busy Bakers 4-H cooking club have held two more meet ings recently at the home of their leader, Mrs. Arnold Hoff man, and at the home of Charm alee, Flock, at which time they were taught how to make pea nut butter cookies and oatmeal raisin cookies. Dewena West, Riverside High school junior, participated in the speak-off essay contest Sunday in Pendletno for the fifteenth, annual United Nations contest Dean King was a patiet in St. Anthony's hospital in Pendleton last week where he had surgery on Monday.
