Work on Projects Darlene Warren was hostess to the Ruralettes 4-H club on No vember 13. Some of the girls had finished their head scarves and were very pretty. Mrs. Roland Bergstrorri, our leader, explained in detail how to measure and mark the material for our aprons. Cheri Carlson gave a very inter esting demonstration on clean ing and polishing white shoes. Visitors present were Mrs. Louis Carlson, Mrs. Sid Zinter and Mrs. Art Warren. Julie Zinter, reporter Department Holds Speech Clinic See Demonstration On Animal Clipping Hardman Folk Observe Holiday By CHARLOTTE WALKER Examiner Coming A drivers license examiner will be on duty in Heppner Tuesday, December 10, at the courthouse between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., according to an announcement received from the Department of Motor Vehicles of Oregon. Persons wishing original licenses or permits to drive are asked to file applications well ahead of the scheduled closing hour in order to assure time for completion of the required li cense test. Members of the Hoof and Horn 4-H Livestock club watched and later took part in a demonstra tion on how to clip and show a dairy animal. The demonstra tion was given by Gwen and Al- fred Drake at the meeting No vember 24 at the home of Doug Drake. Advancement programs were also given. Just before re freshments, a few games were played. The next meeting is December 15 at the home of Don Greenup at 1:30 p.m. Members are to bring from 8 to 10 feet of quarter inch rope. They are also to bring pencil and paper for the ad vancement tests. Larry Pettyjohn, reporter The Morrow county health de partment and the Morrow county school district cooperated in con ducting a diagnostic speech clin ic held for students of Morrow county schools on November 23 at Heppner Elementary school and lone Elementary school. Ernest H. Cristler, Jr., director of special education in the Uma tilla county schools, directed the clinic. He was assisted by Jack Kesling, speech therapist, and Duane Plyter. Saturday's clinic was held to study children with speech de fects, to explain to the teacher and parents of such children what can be done to help the child overcome such defects, and to work out a program for each child. There were 14 pupils who were referred by their teachers. The parents and respective teachers attended the clinic with the children during their examinat ions. A follow-up clinic will be held next spring to check on the pro gress made during the year and to make recommendations. HARDMAN, RHEA CREEK Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davis and children of Genesee, Idaho, vis ited at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Cecil McDanlel and family over night Wednesday. Mr. Davis is a brother to Mrs. McDaniel. Thursday morning they all drove to Lone Rock to spend the day at the homes of relatives. Mr, and Mrs. Lee Davis returned to HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES. Thursday. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford How ell of Monument, Mrs. Ollie Howell and boys, and Mrs. Georgia Fletcher and girls of Spray. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hams drove to lone Thursday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Hams and familv. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Steiger and familv of Portland spent the holidays visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ball, and at tne home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hall Archie Ball, Jr., was also home on Thanksgiving vacation from Pendleton where he attends blue Mountain Co leee Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stevens and JoJean drove to Pendleton Thurs day morning to spend a few days w th Mr. and Mrs. Bill lirenua. Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel went to Hcppner Thursday after noon and visited several rel atives and friends. They had supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carv Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Woolly and boys of Portland visited her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Huston Les ley for a few days. They return ed to their home Sunday even ing. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright and Mrs. Evelyn Farrens went to Arlington to spend Thanks giving ta the Don Anderson home. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Clark en tertained her folks, Father and Mrs. Bruce Spencer of Heppner for Thanksgiving dinner. Tommy Mahan, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel is here for a few days. He is station ed at San Diego, Calif., and as soon as his leave is over he re turns to his ship and will go overseas. Ilis home is in La Grande and he is the son of Mrs. Maxine Mahan. Mr. and Mrs. Barton Clark left about two weeks ago for Hawaii on a sight seeing vacation tour. They are expected home soon. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stream of Portland were at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Van Blok land Thursday. Also home from school at La Grande was Gary Van Blokland. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Robinson went to Walla Walla recently to attend the funeral services for Benny Stanton. He left several relatives in this area. Miss Loretta Kay Cecil of Wal lowa visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Cecil over the holidays. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel and Cassie went to Condon on Saturday. Dinner guests Thursday at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. Kslie Walker were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Walker, Mrs. Betty Gentry, Bob and Dolores of Pendleton and Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel and Cassie. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stevens went to Heppner to the home of John and Alta Stevens for Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Palmer served dinner Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Palmer and children. , Brette and Patty Howell vis ited Bonnie Kessell Sunday af ternoon. Livestock Club Meets At Doherty Home December meeting of the Blackhorse Livestock club was called to order by President Maureen Doherty at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Doherty. Flag pledges were led by Michelle Miller and Nancy Campbell. Secretary Jim Bloods worth road the minutes and they were approved. Under new bus iness, advancement programs were handed out and discussed. Four-H club goals were read and marked. The meeting was ad journed and slides were shown on the parts of swine, beef, sheep and dairy. At the January meet ing a test will be given over this material. Our recreational game was called Buzz. The next meeting will be on January 5, at the Bloodsworth hnm Guests were Davie Campbell and Kyle Robinson. Nancy Doherty, reporter Nels Anderson Back County Agent Nels Anderson returned to his office Monday after being confined at home for a week with a tonsil infection However, he was still feeling weak from the illness.
