(G-T Photo) Church Hears India Talk By LaVELLE PARTLOW IHRIGON Miss Valborg Frandsen, missionary to North India, showed colored slides, and spoko in the Irrigon Assembly of God church Sunday night. Rev. and Mrs. John Kenney, pas tors of the Irrigon Assembly, had worked wilh Miss Frandsen from 1932 to 1912, while they were missionaries in North India, The Kennrys spent 16 years in India, and Miss Frandsen has been there for 42 years. Miss Frandsen was brought up in Denmark, but is now an American citizen. She will return to India in January. Her mission ary work there includes earing for many orphans and widows as well as village work. Her home there is in Mahoba, a village of 25,000 people. There will be no school at A. C. Houghton elementary Veteran's Day, Monday, November 11. The school library is open on Tues day evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Adults, as well as students, are welcome to visit the library and check out books. The Oregon School Employees' Association meeting will be held in the eafetorium Tuesday, No vember 12. There will be a 4-H Commun ity club meeting in the old cafe teria Thursday evening, Novem ber 14, at 7:30. Mrs. John Kenney and Mrs. Josie Buchanan were hostesses for a Halloween party for the Assembly of God primary boys and girls at the parsonage base ment Tuesday after school. They served cider and donuts to the youngsters. Mr. and Mrs. Ben McCoy and Terry, Mrs. Ruth McCoy, Vernon Stewart and Tommy spent the week-end elk hunting. Mrs. Ben McCoy. PTA Dinner Friday The l'TA will hold its annual Dime-A-Dip dinner Friday even ng, November 8, at the school eafetorium. Dinner will be serv ed from 5:00 to 7:30 and musk and entertainment will be pro vided throughout the evening free of charge. ,..,, Mr. and Mrs. Rees Morgan were called to Portland by the death of Morgan's aunt, Mrs. J K Davy. Services were held at the Ross Hollywood Funera, Home Tuesday afternoon. Mor nans stayed overnight with Lloyd Davy, and returned to Irrigon Wednesday. Miss Donna Isom, assisted by her mother, Mrs. Earl Isom was host to a Halloween masquerade party for the Assembly of God young people at the parsonage basement Tuesday evening. Sandwiches, cider and donuts were served following gam s. Trizes for best costumes went to Eddv McCorkle, Shirley Jack son, Glenda MeCorkle. Terry McCoy, and Darrel Pummel. Andrew Shoun of Walla Walla spent Saturday in Irrigon visit- ing his folks. Mr. and Mrs. Avprv Shoun. Shoun is the Assis tant Juvenile Probation Officer of Walla Walla county. Thursday, November 7. 13S3 1 Vacancy To Be Filled There will be a vacancy on the Cemetery Maintenance Board, to be filled at the annual elec tion the first Monday of Decem ber (Dec. 2). Anyone desiring to run for the position may secure a petition from Mrs. Dan Hill, have it signed and returned to Mrs. Hill by the 18th of Novem ber. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Young of Florence, are parents of a new baby daughter. The baby was born October 28 and weighed 8 lb. 5 oz. She has three sisters and a brother. Young was a former principal of A. C. Hough ton Elementary. Mrs. Rose Wilson held a Hal loween party for the Assembly of God Junior Girls' class at her home Tuesday afternoon. After playing several games, donuts, cider and popcorn balls were served. The Junior Boys were dinner guests of their teacher, Harvey aWrner, Tuesday even ing. Miss Hazel Stitzel, who is em ployed in Arlington, spent the week-end in Irrigon with her mother, Ilrs. Helen Stitzel and family. Mr. and Mrs. Don Adams spent Saturday in Portland, shop ping. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mulkey and daughter of Portland spent the week-end in Irrigon visiting Mrs. Helen Mulkey. Mrs. Jerry Mulkey and daughter remained In Irri gon for the week, and left for Portland Sunday. The Irrigon Baptist held a potluck dinner church at the church basement Sunday even ing, followed by their monthly fellowship evening. Room Mothers Listed A. C. Sharon By MARY LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Sharon Donovan, Riverside High school senior, was crowned Homecoming queen Friday during the halftime of the game between the Riverside Pirates and Lyle, Wn. She was escorted by Mike McCoy. The crowning honors were done by Dante Daltoso, football coach. Queen Sharon and her court reigned over the Homecoming dance and Halloween party tiiat evening sponsored by the junior class and their advisors, Ronald Daniels, and Delia Lindsay. The Pirates finished the season by defeating Lyle 27-21, making it their seventh win against only one defeat, which was the game with lone. Attend Bleakman Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Zearl Gillespie, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Coats, Mrs. Zoe Billings and Everett Hadley attended the 60th wedding anni versary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bleakman at the Civic Recreation Center in Hermiston Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Billings and Hadley are niece and nephew of the Bleakmas. Mrs. Frank Marlow visited three days last week at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Ernest Zerba, in Walla Walla, Wn. Ralph Warren of the Oregon Council on Alcoholic Problems, Portland, presented a program on the effects of alcohol on the human body at the school Mon day afternoon. A film, "You Can Stand Alone" was shown. He traced the alcohol from the stomach to the kidneys, and then to the brain, emphasizing the damage done to brain cells. He also stressed the pressure on teenagers to make them drink socially in order to be one of a group. A general aptitude test from the state employment office will be given November 12 at the school for the senior class. An Oregon Game Commission film will be shown at the school November 15 at 1 p.m. Basketball coach Ted Talbott has announced that basketball practice will start at the school November 12. No school will be held Novem ber 11, Veterans' Day. Grange Meetings Planned The Home Economics club of Greenfield Grange will meet No vember 13 at the grange hall at 12:30 p.m. Hostesses will be Mrs. Leonard Bedord and Mrs. Andrew Skiles. Greenfield Grange will meet at the hall November 14, starting with potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. Queen Hosts will be Mr. and Mrs. Ron ald Black and Mr. and Mrs. An drew Skiles. Mrs. Claud Coats, postmaster, announces that the post office will be closed all day November 11, Veterans' Day. Cafeteria menus for Riverside High school and Boardman Grade school for the week of November 12-15 are as follows: Tuesday potato soup and crack ers, bologna sandwiches, pickled beets and fruit; Wednesday chili beans and crackers, vege table sticks, cottage cheese and cobbler; Thursday hot dogs and potato chips, buttered peas, gin gerbread with whipped cream; Friday creamed tuna over toast, green beans, cheese sticks and cherry crunch.
