Services Held Monday For Nels H. Kristensen By MART LEE MARLOW BOARD MAN Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in Hermiston for Nels H. Kristensen, 72, who died at Good Shepherd hospital August 1, having suffer ed a heart attack following surg ery. Rev. Arthur Lewis, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran church, conducted the services. Mrs. LaVern Partlow sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Whisp ering Hope." Pallbearers were Arnin Hug, Harold Rash, Ralph Skoubo, Roy Partlow, Arnold Hoffman and Henry Gantenbein. Honor a r y bearers were Adolf Skoubo, Charlie Nickerson, Gilmer Bol son, Mike Cassidy, Don Kenney of Irrigon, and Ray Woolley of Hermiston. Burial was In Boardman River view Cemetery. Burns Mortuary was in charge. Mr. Kristensen was born June 13, 1891 in Hammel, Denmark, coming to the United States in 1910. He was married to Sine Miller in 1921 in Seattle, Wn. They came to Boardman at that time, and have lived here since, farming in the east end for 42 years. He served as director on the board of the Umatilla Electric Cooperative Association for ten years, ana aiso was on the board of the West Extension Irrigation District for many years. He was a World War I Veteran. Survivors are the widow at Boardman; one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Elizabeth) Thompson of Spokane, Wn.; a sister, Mrs. Martin Larsen of Innisfail, Al berta, Canada; four sisters and one brother in Denmark, and three grandchildren. A son pre ceded him in death. Relatives here from out of town for the funeral included Mrs. Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith of Portland, a nephew, Gerald Seeber of Seattle, Wn., nieces, Mrs. Leonard Fitch of Marysville, Wn., and Mrs. Max Vannoy and children Lynn, Mark and Dayle of Davis, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Thompson ana sons or. Spokane. Members of the Boardman Community church held a picnic at Hat kock Park last Saturday, with 53 attending. Greenfield Grange will meet Thursday, August 8. at the hall at 8 p.m. Grange members will have a picnic the afternoon of August 11 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs. Gary Moore is here from Ox- nard, Calif, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rollo Moore, called by the illness of Ms mother. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Anderson and daughter Diane of Condon visited Saturday at the home of Anderson's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sledge. Diane remained here to visit this week. Cheryl Vogel of Pendleton and Sandra Thorpe of Hermiston spent the week-end at the home of Sharon Donovan. All attended the princess dance at Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Morgan of Banks visited one dav last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Russell and children Danny, Steve and Da lene of The Dalles visited Sun day at the home of Russell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Rus sell, and Mrs. Russell's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey West. Monday visitors at the West home were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Fulkner and daugh ters Connie and Cheryl of Mt Vernon, Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tatone and children Linda and Jody spent a week at Seaside and Astoria, where Tatone participated in the Oregon Coast Golf Tournament. Mrs. Tatone and children also visited in Nehalem at the home of Mrs. Julie Crews. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Eades went to Pasco, Wn. one day last week to visit at the home of Eades' brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Woolley. Henry Gantenbein went to Portland last Friday to attend the bi-monthly meeting of the Dairy Co-operative, representing district No. 9. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Potts went to La Grande Sunday to visit at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Houston. Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar Skoubo and daughters Patsy, Kathy and Linda spent the week-end at Wallowa Lake. Mrs. Florence Root is visiting this week at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Mefford, at Burns. Last week Mrs. Root ac companied her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Root of Wasco, to Portland. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gantenbein Thursday till Saturday were Mrs. Gantenbein's brother-in-law and sister, Rev. and Mrs. Henry Warber of 'Payette, Idaho. Pastor and Mrs. Herman R. Burg and family have returned from a two week's vacation trip. They spent several days at Can non Beach, and at the George Rugg camp out of Heppner. Dur ing the trip they had as guests, Mrs. Burg's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Bon in and daughter Carol of St. Paul, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Thornhill and children Ricky and Lynette of Hood River visited one day last week at the home of Thorn hill's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thornhill. Mrs. Lynn Johnson and Mrs. Doug Luna of Rufus visited last Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sid Ferguson. Mrs. Delmer Hug and four children were in The Dalles last week at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Porter, caring for the Porter children while Porter was in a Portland hospital for foot surgery. Darrell Marlow of Pendleton was a Saturday visitor at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow. Son Born to Kellers Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Keller are the parents of an eight pound, six ounce son born August 2 in Eugene. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hoffman of Boardman. Mrs. Hoffman is in Eugene visiting at the Keller home. Hicks Purchase Store Mr. and Mrs: Wiley Brimmer have sold their grocery store here to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hicks of lone, who took over Monday morning. The Brimmers, who have operated the store the past thirteen months, say their plans are indefinite. Marians Entertain Out-of-town Guests Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mahan and sons Dwayne and Glen of Eminence, Mo., have been visit ing the past week with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mahan, and twin brother, Alvle Mahan and family, all of Heppner. Coming for the week-end from Seattle, Wn., were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mahan and son, Steven, to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Mahan, and to see the Al bert Mahan family and other relatives here. August 8, 1963 7 Combine Fire Spreads in Area By DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON Fire, starting In the combine on the Clell Rea place last Thursday, caused con siderable damage to pasture and some barley acreage before be ing brought under control by neighbors, friends and their fire fighting equipment The combine, driven by John nie Rea, caught fire and was quickly engulfed In flames, but Johnnie was able to escape with out injury. It spread onto prop erty owned by Cecil Jones and Florence McMillan. Owners are grateful to fast response of friends in getting it under control. Tops Club Meets Lexington Tops club met last Tuesday afternoon for their reg ular meeting at the Lexington city hall. At this time they clean ed up the meeting hall. Among the six members present there was a loss of 16 y lbs. The club wishes to invite anyone interest ed to come and join them. They meet each Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Jack O'Harra and daughter Susan motored to Lexington over the week-end after their son Steven, who had been visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Newt O'Harra, for a week. Mr. and Mrs. William C. Van Winkle motored to Ritter Hot Springs one day last week after Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilcox of Portland who have been staying at Ritter. Mrs. Wilcox is a sis ter of Mrs. Van Winkle. Mrs. George Irvin and child ren Valda, Billy and Vicky re turned to their home in Rufus after several weeks in Lexington. Mr. arid Mrs. Johnnie Led better and family and Mr. and Mrs. William J. Van Winkle and family spent Sunday at Hat, Rock. - The junior high class of the Lexington Christian church Sun day school spent Sunday at Leh man Springs. They were taken over by their teacher, Bill B. Marquardt Mr. and Mrs. Bill Steagall and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. It. Brandehagen of Pendleton were visitors Sunday at the Wilbur Steagall home. . Jeanette Ledbetter, Theresa and Christine Munkers spent Saturday at Lehman Springs with the Rainbow Girls of Heppner. Mrs. Cora Allyn is visiting her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fox at Wena tehee, Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Zita ; or. Portland spent the week-end at the O. W. Cutsforth ranch and left daughter Judy for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cutsforth were business visitors in Yakima and Walla Walla, Wn., Monday. En route home they picked up their daughter Lisa at Camp Hideaway. She had been there for 10 days with the Camp Fire Girls.
