Locust Chapter Installs New Officers By KATHERINE LINDSTROM IONE New officers for Locust Chapter No. 119, OES, are Mrs. Levis Haivorsen, worthy matron; Lewis Haivorsen, worthy patron; Mrs. Charles O'Connor, assoc iate matron; Charles O'Connor, associate patron; Mrs. Omar Riet mann, secretary; Melvln Melena, treasurer; Mrs. James Barnett, conductress; Mrs. James Lind say, associate conductress; Mrs. Walter Jacobs, marshall; Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom, Sr., chaplain; Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom, organist; Mrs. Ella Burgoyne, Adah; Mrs. Joe Hausler, Ruth; Mrs. Herbert E. Ekstrom, Jr., Esther; Mrs. Walter Roberts, Martha; Mrs. Kenneth Smouse, electa; Roy W. Lindstrom, warder; James Bar nett, sentinal; and Mrs. Ida Esteb, Bible bearer. Installing officers for the for mal affair were Mrs. E. M. Baker, installing past matron; Mrs. E. R. Lundell, chaplain; Mrs. Cleo Drake, organist, and Mrs. Jack Schaeffer, marshall. An honor guard of Rainbow Girls was formed to escort Mr. and Mrs. Haivorsen to the East and the girls sang two numbers. Mrs. Haivorsen Is Mother Advisor of lone Assembly and Mr. Haivor sen is a member of the advisory board. Honored guests presented were Mrs.1 Roy W. Lindstrom, mem ber of the credentials commit tee of the Grand Chapter of Ore gon; Mrs. Lawrence Jones of Con don, grand representative of Ohio in Oregon, and Don Turner, worthy patron of Ruth Chapter No. 32 in Heppner. Mrs. Haivor sen chose as her motto "Pride in our past and faith in our future," with Pride, Faith, and Peace her watchwords, and the dove her symbol. The1 rooms were decorated in pink and white, the new worthy matron's colors for 1963-64, and refresh ments were served from a lovely tea table. Pouring were Mrs. Lindstrom and Mrs. James Lind say, junior past matron. Lions Install in Pendleton On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. James Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Snider and Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor drove to Pen dleton to attend a joint instal lation of the Lions Club and auxiliary at the Tapadera ban quet room. Mr. O'Connor is the new president of the lone Lions club. Mrs. Ray Boyce, who has been quite ill, spent Friday evening in the hospital, but is improv ing at home now. Ray Barnett had surgery per formed on his heel on Monday morning. He and Mrs. Barnett will go to the James Barnett cabin in the mountains for a few days, while the foot is healing. Ralph Martin arrived home Saturday evening from Denver, Colo., where he had spent a most interesting four weeks attending the Cliff Mann Floral school. His father, F. T. Martin, met him at Hinkle. Mr. and Mrs. John Bray and son Tom of Hermiston spent the Fourth of July at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lindstrom and family. Mr, and Mrs. Bill Rietmann spent the week-end at Roseburg attending the wedding of her cousin, Marylee Krebs to Larry Smith. Miss Krebs is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Krebs, former residents of Cecil. The Rietmann boys visited relatives here while their parents were away. Miss Shirlee McGreer, who is doing graduate work at the Uni versity of Oregon this summer, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Verner Troedson from Wednes day to Sunday. Also visiting at the Troedson's home were Mr. Troedson's brother Francis, of Eugene, and Mrs. Troedson's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Brewster of Redmond. Joining these guests at the Troedson's on the Fourth of July were Mr. and Mrs. Loren Kimsey, Mrs. Roger Bounds of Hermiston, Mrs. Lucille Troedson and her mother, Mrs. G. Lewis of Clack amas, and Mrs. Lewis' great grandsons, Douglas and David Gunderson of Heppner, also John and Carl Troedson of lone. Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Bristow of Tillamook spent the week-end in lone at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Bris tow. Their young son, btephen, has been visiting here this week, while his parents were vacation ing at Wallowa Lake. Merrilee Jacobs is recovering nicely from recent surgery on her throat. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rietmann had as their guests on the Fourth of July, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Pet erson of The Dalles. Rev. and Mrs. Walter Crowell drove to Portland on Wednes day to spend the holiday visit ing his sister and family. On Saturday they went to Camp Adams to bring home some of the fifth and sixth graders, who had spent the week there. Mrs. Robert Jepsen and son, Bill, also drove to Camp Adams to bring home some of the young people. Miss Sandra Eubanks, queen of the 1963 Morrow County Ro deo, attended a Junior Rodeo at Lakeview last week-end, and she and Louise Pointer rode with the Morrow County court in the Fourth of July parade at Con don. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thomp son and family of Moro were vis itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom on Sun day. Their daughter, Judy, re mained to visit Susan for a few days, while Kenneth and Patty Thompson went to the 4-H camp at Cutsforth Park as counsellors for Sherman, Gilliam, and Wheeler counties 4-H members. New linoleum was laid in the kitchen of the lone Community church on Saturday. Home From Portland Convention Returning from Portland and Dallas after a two weeks stay, was Mrs. F. T. Martin, who had gone to Portland as a delegate to the convention of the Oregon Federation of Garden clubs at the Multnomah Hotel. Mrs. Martin was called to Dallas from the convention because of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. R. A. Horton. Mrs. Horton was moved from a Dallas hos pital to a Salem hospital and is slowly recuperating there. Mrs. Martin visited her son, Melvin, who is employed at the OSU experiment farm in Corvallis for the summer, and her daughter Jean, who is attending Portland State, and living at the home of her grandfather, A. T. Martin, in West Linn. Mr. Martin has also been confined to a hospital for about a month. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bishop and daughter have been on an extended vacation, which took them to Crater Lake, where they encountered a snow storm, the Redwood Forests of Northern California, and the Oregon coast. Returning through Portland on Saturday they picked up their niece, Jeanie Willard, who is visiting Barbara for a few days. All of them spent the week end in Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bergstrom and son Jeff, of Portland spent the week-end in lone visiting relatives. Their two daughters, Beverly and Patty, who have been guests at the Arthur Stef an! Jr. home for a week, returned to Portland with them on Sun day. The Bergstrom Stefani and Roland Bergstrom families join ed their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom at their home for a picnic dinner on Sunday. Harvesting began at the Vern er Troedson and Sam Crawford ranches on Saturday. Other farmers in this area were to be gin this week, but have been de layed by the heavy rains on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Heimbigner, Linda and Tom, Mark Haivor sen, and Jerri Jeppe of Herm iston drove to Soap Lake for the Water Ski Tournament this week-end. Tom won second place in trick skiing and third place in the slalom. Peggy Voorhies of Portland was visiting relatives in lone this week. She is staying at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Ted Miller, near Lexington through harvest. Teena and Teresa Stefani en tered the hospital on Tuesday morning for tonsilectomies. Franklin Lindstrom drove to Portland on Wednesday to bring home Mrs. Lindstrom, who has been in the city for sometime receiving medical attention. Miss Chris topheTSon has been attending college in Utah and is now em ployed as a secretary. They also visited relatives in Nampa, Id aho, and attended a family re union there. Earl Morgan is spending some time at his home here from his work at Spokane, Wn. Arriving this week for a visit were his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Davidson of Los Angeles and their grandson, Jeffrey Ruieter. Morgans Meet for Reunion The Morgan family held a re union at the mountain cabin of Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks over the week-end. Guests present were Bill Morgan and daughter, Melody, of Long Beach, Calif., who have been visiting relatives here for a week, Mr. and Mrs. Davidson and Jeffrey, Mr. and Mrs. John Sanders and family of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matthews and girls, Sandra Eubanks, Louise Pointer, Dennis Eubanks, a nephew of Mr. Eubanks from Portland, Earl Morgan and the hosts. This was the first time Mr. Morgan and his children had been toðer in ten .years. Mrs. Glenn Beihl took her young son, Bruce to Portland on Sunday to consult a dermi tologist. They returned on Mon day. Mr. Beihl accompanied them as far as Portland on his return to Salem and Summer school. Mrs. Gene Harryman and fam ily returned on Sunday from a three week vacation spent near Oklahoma City, Okla., visiting relatives and friends. Louis stop ped off at Nampa, Ida., where he visited and worked part of the time. A. C. Crowell has been very ill at his home near Morgan. A physician was called to attend him. Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Gustaf son and family of Sumner, Wn., spent from Monday to Wednes day at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Mary Swanson, while visit ing relatives here. Sue Townsend and her cousin, Dick Ried, who is working here, spent the Fourth of July at his home in Bend. Mr. and Mrs. George Portschy of Pendleton spent the holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hershal Townsend. Mrs. Delia Corson has returned from a visit with her niece, Miss Florence Swanson, in Portland. She accompanied Mrs. F. T. Martin home on Sunday. Mrs. Stella O'Meara was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Heppner on Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Newlin of Seattle were vis i t i n g Mrs. O'Meara, his aunt, at the time she was taken ill. Gail Malcom of Heppner is employed at the Garland Swan son home during the harvest season. Mrs. Kitty Yarnell is receiving medical treatment and resting at the coast. Her address is Grey Court Apts. Manzanita. Bill Sears of Oregon City, who is employed here, and John Swanson spent the holiday at Sears home and also enjoyed some time at the beach. Mr. and Mrs. James H. Myers, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Smith all of Pocatello, Idaho, visited with the Myers' son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Myers and family four days last week. They left for their home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Creston Robinson and daughter, Vicki, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rob inson, Mt. Vernon last Tuesday through Thursday. They also vis ited his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Wright, Prairie City and the Bill Labharts in Canyon City.
