Slated for Week-end

IONE lone high school Junior-Senior
banquet will be held
tonight, (Thursday) at 7:00 p.m.
Attendance is by invitation only.
Guest speaker will be Don Olm
scheid, administrative principal
of A. C. Houghton school, Irri
gon. The Junior-Senior prom is to
be held Saturday, April 27, at
9:00 p.m. in the high school
gymnasium. Music will be furn
ished by the "Keytones" of Port
land. The dance is open to the
public and tickets are $1.00 for
singles and $1.50 for couples.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Eall and
family of lone, Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Ball of Lexington, Elmer
Peterson, and Edith, Dale and
Wayne White were guests at the
Lewis Ball home Wednesday,
April 17, to celebrate Mr. Ball's
birthday.
Approximately 120 people at
tended the PTA sponsored movie
Sunday afternoon in the high

traveled to Portland last week

returned home Thursday, April
18 from a trip to Calif., where
they visited with Mr. and Mrs.

PINE CITY Carlie Fischer,
employed by the Oregon Poultry
association, taught the project
lessons for the extension clubs
on "Poultry Cookery" on Fri
day at the fair annex. Those
from this vicinity enjoying the
lesson were Mrs. Jerry Myers,
Mrs. Weldon Witherrite and
Mrs. Willard French.
Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Myers
and family are in Portland this
week-end to visit her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schwab.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Meredith
were visiting from Saturday un
til Monday at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Wigglesworth. The Merediths
are en route from Sacramento,
Calif., to Portland where he has
been transferred.
Jerry Myers and David Roth-
rock trucked a load of cattle
on triday to the Harlan Craw
ford farm near La Grande.
The P.G.G. auxiliary met Tues-
day at the home of Mrs. John
Madison for a potluck luncheon
at noon and a lesson on Mosaic
tiling. Members attending were
Mrs. Tom Ashbeek, Mrs. Weldon
Witherrite, Mrs. Willard French,
Mrs. Bruce Henry, Mrs. Gaylord
Madison and Mrs. George Luc-
iani. A tour of places of interest
in the Tri-Cities will be enjoyed
for the May meeting.

Millan traveled as far as Rufus
with them where she visited her
daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. George Irvin.

Cake Baking
Contest Rules
Told by League
Rules have recently been an
nounced for the 1963 cake bak
ing contest sponsored annually
by the Oregon Wheat Growers'
League at the Morrow County
Fair. Directing the contest this
year are Mrs. Douglas Drake
and Mrs. Charles Doherty- co
chairmen, representing the do
mestic wheat utilization com
mittee of the league.
Entrants must bake a frosted
chocolate layer cake using solid
type shortening, with recipe
card attached to the cake board,
and exhibited and judged at the
Morrow county fair according to
standards set up by the league.
Contestants must be residents
of Morrow county, either man
or woman over 21, or married
women or men; excluding pro
fessional bakers.
County premiums paid to
winners are $5.00, first; $3.00,
second, and $2.00, third. First
place winner will be eligible
to enter state bake-off at the
annual convention in December.
Top award of $100 will be paid
to the state winner, plus a ro
tating trophy presented at the
annual banquet.
County premium books will
carry further information on
score sheets for judging outside
and inside appearance, flavor
and frosting.
