And inter spersed in all this, is meal plan ning and preparing, washing and ironing, and chauffering kids to this and that! Whew, makes me tired to write this, but it is nearly the schedule of any mother with youngsters. o o o TWO TABLES of pinochle were in progress last Tuesday even ing at the home of Mary Lov gren. Flo Connor won high, Marlys Phegley, second; Bobbie Angell, low; and Lillian Key; pinochle. Others enjoying the evening were Jackie Allstott, Jeanne Berry, Bonnie Buschke and Mary. HANNAH ANDERSON called the other evening to say that they had been in Portland to attend a shower for Mrs. Jerry Gower, the former Maxine Allen of lone. The Gowers recently adopted a baby boy. The shower was held in the Kon Tiki room at the Sheraton Hotel in Portland. SEVEN TABLES of duplicate bridge were in play Sunday afternoon at the Elks rooms for the monthly unit party. Bobbe Driscoll and Rachel Dick won high north-south. Gus and Mary Jo Hartzheim, Hermiston were second. Harriet Hall and Doreen Jacobs were high east-west and Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Hamp ton, Pendleton were second. Other out-of-towners were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Littleton, Pendle ton; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rich ards, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harkenrider, and Mrs. Jean Rit zinger, all of Hermiston; Mrs. A. R. Fortner, Boardman. 0 0 0 HAZEL MAHONEY entertained What's Trump bridge at her home Wednesday afternoon with Virginia Rosewall winning high. Lucille Wilson was second and Cora Mae Ferguson was low. Al so in on the play were Dee Grib ble, Fay Ferguson, Helen Schaf fitz, Margaret Blake, Madge Thomson, and Hazel. ooo REMEMBER THE new date of the Band Carnival April 27 with dinner at t:3U p.m. in the fair pavilion and many games to play on the "gay-way"! Gath er up the whole family for a fun night out and the proceeds go to buy band uniforms and send band students to summer school. ooo EDDA MAE LOVGREN won high Friday at bridge with Kay Robinson entertaining three ta bles of gals, plus me for an hour! I went down to eat some of that delicious-looking cherry-o-cream cheese pie she had made,, but no luck, had to leave before she served it! Kay asked me to play but I knew Bebe Munkers would just call me the "dummy!" Lillian Sweek won second and Mary Jean McCabe, low. Others in on the session were Bebe, June Bellenbrock, Laurel Van Marter, Gwen Healy, Mabel Heath, Nona Sowell, Ha zel Hamlin, Elsie Cole, and Kay. ooo MARGARET DUBUQUE and Ja nina Johnson filled in for Han nah Anderson and Pearl Wright, who were out of town, at the Friday Afternoon Pinochle club. Mary Harris entertained the group with Doris Watkins hav ing high, Carrie Beckett, low; Gladys Beckett and Janina, pin ochle. Beulah Mankin and Mil lie Evans were the other play ers. ooo VIRGINIA ROSEWALL and Gena Leonard were hostesses for the OES Social club held at the Masonic hall Saturday afternoon. Juanita Carmichael won high for bridge, and Gladys Jones had- Jack high. Carrie Beckett won high in pinochle with Martha Lane having the pinochle. The taster theme was 1 Coming Events FRIDAY. Another son, Don, is with United Press working in Los Angeles, Calif. ooo EILEEN PROCK entertained Fri day night two tables of bridge with Joyce Ward winning high. Ilene Wyman had second and Patti Prock was low. Jean Ben nett, Jan Agee, Nadine O'Brien, Mary McClure, and Eileen also played. ooo BRIDGE WAS the word Wednes day night as Inez Meador had the Renegers club at her home. Lillian Sweek won high, Bebe Munkers, second; and Bonnie Barratt, low. Others in on the play were Kay Robinson, Kay Anderson, LaFyrne Pratt, Edda Mae Lovgren, and Louise Far ley. ooo EVERYONE HAS been reading about the meningitis at the Navy base in San Diego, Calif. Ida Farra told me her son, Jim, who is stationed there has been quarantined off and on during this outbreak. He is undergoing "boot" training and will be home on leave around May 10. ooo THE PINOCHLE tournament at the Elks club was concluded last week with Prudy Casebeer and Ruth Bergstrom winning first place. Martha Lane and Edna Turner were second. In the Wednesday night play, Millie Evans and Beulah Mankin were high with Alta Cutsforth and Loree Hubbard second high. They will hold a party this week to give out the awards. o o o MARY McLEOD won high Tues day night at the Bridge Bid dies club with Mary Jean Mc Cabe entertaining. Janina John son won second and Mary Mc Clure won the traveling prize which was bidding game and making it. Marian Jonasson, La Fyrne Pratt, Dorothy ORourke, Donna Gordon, Jan Agee, and Mary Jean played during the evening. The gals presented Jan with a stork complete with diaper tucked full of money for the new baby. ooo MARTHA PETERSON entertain ed with a farewell party for Sherri Olson who left Saturday for her new home in Klamath Falls. Guests were Kitty OHarra, Sharon Hams, Cheryl Bellen brock. and Sara Strait. The party was held at the Peterson home last Tuesday, with Sherri re ceiving remembrances from the girls. 0 0 0 SEEN ABOUT town: Marie Mc Quarrie working diligently in her front yard; the Glenn Smiths planting rosebushes; little boy trying to push lawn mower through too-tall grass! Mr. and Mrs. Orian Wright were in Tacoma, Wn., last week to attend the funeral of her brother, Bill LeTrace. Renn Harris left Saturday fol lowing a week of spring vacation ivith his narpnts. A letter was read from former member, Mrs. Eulenna Corley, saying she had helped start a sister chapter of the ESA in Corvallis. The new chapter is named Alpha Beta and has 15 charter members. It was announced that Mrs. Joe Hausler will be Beta Omega's delegate to state convention in Roseburg. May 18 was set as the date for the chapter's annual husband and wife banquet. Officers elected for the com ing year were Mrs. Charles Do herty, president; Mrs. Harold Snider, vice president; Mrs. Gene Rietmann, corresponding secre tary; Mrs. Joe Hausler, record ing secretary; Mrs. Gil Lujan. treasurer. Refreshments served were coffee and breads from around the world, baked by Mrs. Crawford. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Raymond on Monday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Sire Sorenson of Hood River. Mrs. Sorenson is the mother of Mrs. Raymond. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Beckett and Mrs. Hannah Anderson vis ited in Portland over the weekend. Grand Officers Visit Mrs. Dick (Jean) Reed, Con don, grand marshal, and Mrs. Jean Collins, Junction City, grand esther, paid their offical visits Monday at Ruth chapter No. 32, Order of Eastern Star. Last Tuesday evening Mrs. Dean Hunt, Mrs. Lowell Gribble, Mrs. Dick Wilkinson, Mrs. Charles Stout and Mrs. J. R. Huffman attended a Friendship night and reception in Umatilla. Mrs. Kate Baggett, member of the ESTARL committee of the Grand chap ter of Oregon, was the honored guest. Monahans Go South For Son's Marriage The marriage of Ensign Mich ael F. Monahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan, Heppner, to Mary Frances Dominguez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Dominguez, Imperial Va 1 1 e y, Calif., will be an event of Mon day, April 15. in San Francisco. Calif. The wedding ceremony will take place at Sacred Heart Par ish, Filmore Street, San Fran cisco, at 10 a.m. They will be at home, following a short wed ding trip, at 10 Laguna Street, San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Monahan will leave by plane from Portland on Friday to be present for the occasion. Pink and Blue Shower Honors Mrs. Biddle A surprise stork shower was given for Mrs. Marion Biddle at the home of Mrs. William Samp son on Sunday evening, April 7. Theme of the shower was "Rock-a-bye Baby," with inter esting games played and prizes awarded. Highlight of the even ing was a hilarious skit with Mrs. Harold Huber acting the part of the doctor; Mrs. Orlin Huston, as a nurse, and Peggy Rockenfield, dressed in approp riate storK costume. Baby gifts were ushered to the guest of honor In a decorated bassinett. Refreshments were served at the close of the even ing. Guests included Mrs. Peggy David, Walla Walla, mother of Mrs. Biddle, Mrs. Gary Sumpter, Mrs. Dwayne Ball, Mrs. Mike Gray, Mrs. Ralph Marlatt, Mrs. D. E. Sisters Honored With Bqby Shower A pink and blue shower hon ored sisters, Mrs. Dean Connor and Mrs. Bob Parsons, Portland, last Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Mary Bryant with Mrs. Alvln Wagenblast as co hostess. Mrs. Lyle Jensen assisted Mrs. Connor in opening of the gifts. The gifts of Mrs. Parson were taken to her over the week-end by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash.
