Following the reading of the minutes by City Recorder Marguerite Houghton, May o r Wilson reported that he had met with Attorney Belt concerning the opening of 6th Street. The necessary papers to have the street opened have been com pleted, and the next step will be a public hearing, as a cross ins will have to be built over the railroad tracks. Warren McCoy was appointed Street Commissioner, and plans were discussed to seal-coat the existing oiled roads, before they deteriorate. Names were sugges ted for the budget committee, but had not been confirmed. Mrs. Houghton read a letter from the League of Oregon Cities in regard to the possibility of small towns receiving Federal Aid for the purpose of install ing a city water system. A "fact finding" committee regarding the matter of city water will be appointed. Irrigon families attending the veterans ot World War 1 pot- luck dinner and business meet ing at Redmen Hall in Umatilla Friday evening, were Mr. and Mrs. Andy bkiles, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoadley, Mr. and Mrs. Ern est Stephens, Mr. and Mrs. Rees Morgan, Leslie Smith and Roy Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Walt Agee attended as guests. Officers were installed during the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stewart, Sharon and Tommy and Mrs. Ruth McCoy attended the Blue Mountain Youth Rally of the Church of God, held in Pendle ton Sunday afternoon and even ing. They were joined in Pendle ton by Stewart's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart, and his grandmother, Mrs. Kate Stewart. Mr. and Mrs, Bart Gayman of Kennewick were dinner guests or Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gayman Thursday evening. They were joined later in the evening by Mrs. Gayman's nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Piatt of Stanfield. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Patterson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Coy and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Coy Saturday morning. The Patt ersons had been in Michigan and stopped here on their way to their home in Seattle. Miss Elnora Eppenbach. junior at Riverside High school, was a competitor in the IOOF and Re bekah lodge-sponsored United Pilgrimage speech contest held bunday, March 10, in Pendle ton. Menus for A. C. Houghton Elementary for the week of March 25-29 are as follows: Mon daymacaroni and cheese, lunch meat slices, green beans, apple sauce and graham cookies; Tues day hamburger gravy on hot rolls, mixed vegetables, patio party salad; Wednesday barbe cued pork, potatoes, molded vegetable salad, pudding; Thurs day chili beans, spinach, fruit and cookies; Friday oyster stew, crackers, peanut butter and tuna sandwiches and berry cobbler. All meals are served with bread and butter and milk. Medical Classes Scheduled Classes on medical self-help are being conducted in Irrigon by Joe Hay, county extension agent, and Bill Crooke, First Aid nstructor. The classes, sponsor ed by the Ladies Home Exten sion group, are conducted for the purpose of giving the public knowledge of what to do in an emergency when a doctor is not available. The classes will be held each Monday night in the old cafeteria from 7:30 to 9:30 for six consecutive sessions, The first class covered radio active fallout, and a movie on the subiect was shown. Book lets on radioactive fallout were distributed to the group, and they also studied shock. Coffee and cookies were served by the Ladies Home Extension. The next class to be held March 25, will include "fractures and splinting." Miss Donna Isom and Mis. Perry Pummel, were hostesses for a Girls' Missionette party held at the Assembly of God Church basement Monday even ing. The Irrigon girls entertain ed the Hermiston Missionette group and their leaders, Mrs. Nixson and an assistant. The evening was carried out along a Hawaiian theme, and Shirley Jackson, president of the Irri gon group, met each guest at the door and presented her with a lei. Novelties brought back from the Hawaiian Islands by Rev. and Mrs. John Kenney served as decorations, and Mrs. Kenney showed colored slides which they had taken while serving as miss ionaries in the Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Taylor have moved their trailer house to Pilot Rock, where Taylor is em ployed at a furniture factory. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Slaughter attended a Wedding-anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Butson of Hermiston Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. E. Fegert and sons Jim and Gayle of Golden dale, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fegert and Willaine. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Slaughter drove to Pendleton Friday night, to bring their nephews, Eddy and Ivan bchuenlng home with them, to spend their Spring Vacation in Irrigon with the Slaughters. Mrs. Bessie Dunn, mother of Mrs. LaVern Christiansen, is va cationing in Kingston, Jamaica, after spending two days in Miami, Fla. Mrs. Dunn is stay ing at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey Dunn, and plans to re main in Jamaica until June, when she will return to her home in Pasco.
