IONE The lone Lions club held a joint ladies night and of ficial visit of the District Gover nor at the Legion hall Saturday evening, February 9. Visiting dignitaries were Dis trict Governor Fred Hicks and his wife of Hood. . River:- Jim Kirby, cabinet secretary, and his wife, also of Hood River; Leroy Ehlers, president of the " Lyons club in Pendleton, 'and R. A. Fyjelland, also of Pendleton. Following the banquet there was a social hour in which a movie of the National Lions Con vention in Nice, . France, was shown. Several members of the local club put on a skit in which tliey modeled the latest styles in women's clolhing. Those partici pating in the skit were Ray LSoyee, Gar Swanson, Charles O' Connor, Harold Snider, Ted Pal lnateer, Jim Barnett and Don Linnell. Seventy-seven guests en joyed the program and dancing. Sue Townsend Installed lone Rainbow ' Assembly for fciils held its installation of new officers at the regular meeting Tuesday evening, February 5. Mrs. Harold Becket, district deputy, and Mrs. Jim Myers, mother advisor both of Heppner, were visiting dignitaries. Miss Sue Townsend was in stalled as worthy advisor by Tass Morrison, installing worthy advisor; Susan Lindstrom, in stalling musician; Bonnie Hynd, installing chaplain; Kathy Rea, installing marshall, and Merrie Jo Morrison, installing recorder. Lloyd Morgan and Ernest Lun dell were honored 'at a joint birthday celebration at the Ernest Lundell home on Thurs day, February 7. Hostesses were Mrs. Cleo Drake and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn. Others attending were Mrs. Ernest Lundell, Mrs. Anna Lindstrom, Mrs. Arvilla Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. O. L Lundell, Mis. Skip Pettyjohn and daughter Kimber Lea, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker and Mrs. Eldon Tucker. Mr. Lundell was celebrating his 87th birthday. , Mrs. Mary ' Swanson who has been a patient at St. Anthony's hospital in Pendleton, is expect ed home this week. Edison Morgan is a patient at the Pioneer Memorial hospital, where he is recovering from a heart, attack. Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Sr., enter ed St. Anthony's hospital in Pendleton Sunday, February 10, where she will have minor sur gery. Milton Morgan ' left Tuesday, February 12, for- Salem where he will attend legislative meet ings concerned with the Oregon vneat League. Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom return ed, home Saturday, February 9 from Portland where she has been in the hospital for the past three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crawford motored to La Grande Saturday, February 9. to get Mrs. W. C, Crawford who has been visiting her son and his family, Mi.; and Mrs. Harlan Crawford of that city. Mr Herrick's father, William A. Dennison of Pierce, Idaho, is visiting the Herriek family in lone. The lone grade school childre-i;. will, hold their Valentine parties Friday, February 15, from 2:30 to 3:30 p. m. Mrs. Cecil Hicks traveled to Thf. The design; was approved by the council. M. D. Van valkenburgh, The Dalles attorney, was present, and was retained on a monthly basis as legal advisor. Joe Tatone was elected presi dent of the council, and Mayor Dewey West appointed the fol lowing commissioners: street s , Ed Kuhn; water and fire chief, Zearl Gillespie' public buildings arid park, Arthur Allen; irriga tion, Seth Russell; sanitation. Joe Tatone; police, Vernon Russell. Following the council meeting the. city planning commission met to elect officers, and to draw xor terms, vernon kusspu was elected president; Wally Hen drix, vice-president; Ronald Dan iels, secretary. Mrs. Ronald Black drew a one year term, Arthur Allen and Vernon Russell, two years.;. Henry Gantenbein and Ronald Daniels, three years; Ed Kuhn and Wally Hendrix, four years.. Arthur Allen and Ed Kuhn presented their resignations to the commission after the draw ing, as they felt it would be more advisable to 'have comeono serv ing on the commission that was not on the city council. Two new members will be appointed later to fill out their terms. Mrs. Earl Briggs and Mrs. See ha.fer met With Mrs. Nathan Thorpe at the Thorpe home Mon day to plan the Heart Fund Drive in this area. To start the drive they will sponsor a card party at the grange hall Friday night, February 15, starting at ?.p. m. All. proceeds from the pii !y will go to the Heart Fund. The annual Sweetheart Dinner fcr the Boardman Tillieum club was held Sunday -night in the Saddle Room of the Hilchin' Post Cafe. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gronquist of Pond kton. Others present were Mr and Mrs.:Rppald Black, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tatone, Mr. and Mrs. II. M. ' Mrs.' Eldon Shannon has re turned home from a two weeks visit in Seattle, Wash., at the home of . her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert W. Parsons. Mrs. Joe Tatone, president of the 7th District of the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs, was in Portland last week for the; state, winter board meeting at the Imperial Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Brown of Pendleton were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderegg. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs. .., low. Gene Harryman and son Louis, Ait Vance, Darrel Reisch and Tim Tullis traveled to Baker on Saturday to buy a new quarter horse stallion. The horse s name is Tonto Too. Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe went to La Grande Sunday to see Mrs. rnorpe s latner, Paul Smith of Union, who is in the hospital there. Mrs. Frank Marlow spent the week-end in Wala Walla, Wash., visiting at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Ernest Zerba. A nature study program was presented at Riverside High school last week by Bucky Reeves of California. He showed films of cateprillars and bees, and demonstrated live animals ho had with him a python, two boa constrictors, five and seven feet long, and two tarantulas about three inches in diameter. Jim Whitney of Athena spoke at an assembly at Riverside High school Wednesday of last week on his experience as a winner last year in the United Nations speech contest. His prize was a trip to New York and Canada. The Ladies Aid Society of Com munity church met Wednesday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Florence Root, with Mrs. John Summers as co-hostess. Mrs. Seth Russell was in charge of the missionary lesson, "Turn the Telescope." Mrs. Lowell Shattuck visited last week at the home of her mother, Mrs. Delia Faulkner, in Goldendale, Wash. Shattuck ao companied her that far, and met his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shattuck, and Frank Ritches of Toppenish, Wash, to go to Red Bluff, Calif., where they attended the annual bull sale, the biggest of its kind in the northwest. On their return trip Shattuck visited overnight lr Klamath Falls at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs, Douglas Shattuck. Beverly Donovan of Salem spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Donovan. Her cousin, Bob Dunn of Salem, accompanied her, Mrs. Donovan's mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Dunn, who has been visited at the Donovan home the past several weeks, returned to Salem with them, from where she will return to her home in Oakdale, Calif. Overnight guests at the Donovan home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Lewis of Ukiah. The Boardman Garden club's annual family dinner will be held February 19 in the Saddle Room of the Hltchln' Post Cafe at 6:30 p.m. The Home Extension Unit will meet February 19 at 10:30 a. m. at the home of Mrs. H. M. Walk er. Subject will be "Facing widowhood," with Mrs. Arthur Allen and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe as leaders. Following lunch at noon the meeting will reconvene at 1 p. m. Greenfield Grange will meet Feb. 14 at the hall, starting with potluck supper at 6:30. Hosts will oe Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tannehill and Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe.
