All mem bers are urged to attend. lone grade school A and B bsaketball teams played Arling ton Friday afternoon, January 4, at lone. The A team score was 34 to 13 for lone and the B team of lone won by a score of 15 to 13. These two teams will play Irrigon at home Fri day, January 11. Games start at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Leo Crabtree, Sharon Crabtree and Carolyn McCabe motored to Walla Walla, Wn., Friday, January 4, to shop for a wedding dress and veil for the forthcoming marriage of Sharon. Claude Pettyjohn, stationed with the Navy at Guam was home on leave for a month. He returned to duty Monday, Jan uary 7. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Crabtree are proud parents of a baby boy, born December 31. His name is Michael Scott and he weigh ed in at 6 lbs., 14 oz. He was born on the 26th wedding anni versary of his paternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crab tree. There will be adult classes in beginning Spanish at the lone nigh school starting Tuesdav. January 17. The time will be either 7 to 9 p.m. or 8 to 10 p.m. Anyone interested in tak ing these classes is asked to contact Mr. Joe Hausler at the high school. Mr. Hausler will be teaching this course. Mrs. Clara Kincaid celebrated her 88th birthday on Sunday, January 6, at her home. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kincaid and Mrs. Mabel Cotter, sister of Mrs. Kincaid. The lone bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Eugene Hall on Thursday night, January 3. Those attending were Aloha De Spain, who had high score for the evening; Lil Boyce, second; Rita Henman, low; Doreen Ja cobs; Susan Jepsen, Laurel Can non and Faye Biehl. Mrs. Hall served refreshments. Arlynda Aldrich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Aldrich, sus tained a cut cheek when she fell while visiting at the home of her grandparents Sunday evening, January 6. Susan Jane Jepsen was con fined in the hospital from Mon day, December 61 until Friday, January 4, with an attack of athsma. Willows Grange Home Ec club will meet at the home of Mrs. Mabel Cotter for an all dav meeting, Friday, January 18, with Mrs. James Lindsay as co- nostess. Farewell Coffee Hour Planned for DeSpains There will be a farewell cof fee hour in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Bob DeSpain and children, Bob Lee and Chris, following the Sunday morning service in the lone Community church, Sunday, January 13. Their many friends in the area are invited to come and share the social hour with them, starting at 12:00 noon. The DeSpain family is moving soon to make its home in Ar lington, from where he will op erate the bread route in this area. Among Walla Wallans here for the DeSales-Heppner basket ball game Saturday night were Mri and Mrs. Paul Koenig and family. The former Heppnerltes had two sons, Mike and John, playing on the DeSales team. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill are caring for their grandchildren, Deeno and Donnie while the children's mother, Mrs. Don Leighton, is in Portland under- Good Entertainment Planned for Family Night at lone School A Family Night Is planned for the lone community and all others in the county who would like to attend on Sunday, Jan uary 13 at 5 p.m. at the lone High school. The movie, "The Long, Long Trailer," starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, will be shown followed by a spa ghetti supper. Bridge and pinochle will be available for those who would like to play during the time of the movie, under the supervision of Mrs. Betty Carlson, Mrs. Martha Peterson, and Mrs. Mar ilyn Rietmann. The committee in charge of the supper will be Mrs. Edith Matthews, Mrs. Beulah Sherer, Mrs. Delores Barnett, Mrs. Evelyn Krebs, and Mrs, Pete Cannon. The finance committee of the lone PTA, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rietmann, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Boyce, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson, is in charge of the evening enter tainment. C. L. Stephens, Debra and Alan of Umatilla. New Years day, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens and Mrs. McKinney were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Stephens and Pat ricia in Umatilla. Mrs. McKin ney returned to her home in Pendleton on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mulkey are parents of a baby daughter, born at Good Shepherd hospital Jan uary 3. The baby weighed 7 lb. 6'A oz., and has been named Sheila Rae. Local grandparents are Mrs. Helen Mulkey and Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Christiansen. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gugle are back in Irrigon alter spending the Christmas and New Years holidays in Joseph, visiting Mrs. Gugle's two nieces, Mrs. Wayne Williamson and Mrs. Merle Al ford and their families; in La Grande visiting Mr. Gugle's sis ter and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Buttrick, and Mrs. Gugle's brother, Paul Yeck; in Ontario visiting Mr. Gugle's two sisters, Mrs. Irene Tunning and Mrs. Myrtle Smith, and in Ukiah where they have their vacation trailer. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Brownlee spent Christmas with Brownlee's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brownlee, in Brogan. When they returned, they brought Tom home with them to spend the holidays. Mary rode back to Salem with Mr. and Mrs. Chet Collins as they took their daughter, Elsie, back to Battle Ground, Wn., where she attends Columbia Academy. Mr. and Mrs. Collins stayed overnight with the Gerberdings, returning home the next day. Mrs. Burl Courtney, Danni and Larry of La Grande were week end guests at the home of Mrs. Courtney's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stew art and family. Mrs. Stewart's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Reeder of La Grande, also spent the week-end with them. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Wilson and family of Portland were dinner ouests of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson and family Sun day afternoon, honoring Bill Wilson of Irrigon on his birth day. Bill Wilson is Woodrow Wilson's father. Mrs. Ruth McCoy has been confined to her home the past week due to illness. Schools Set Basketball Games Riverside High school had an easy victory over Umapine Sat urday night. Riverside meets Umatilla at Umatilla Friday night, January 11, at 6:30 p.m., and plays Weston at Riverside High Saturday night, first game starting at 6:30 p.m. A. C. Houghton Elementary won over Heppner Friday, January 4, tak ing the "A" game 30-27, and the "B" game 42-29. A. C. Houghton plays at lone Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Menus for A. C. Houghton Elementary for the week of Jan uary 7 to January 11 are as fol lows: Monday meat casserole, buttered carrots, ginger bread and cream and plums; Tues daysauerkraut and wieners, green beans and doughnuts; Wednesday roast beef, potatoes and gravy, tomatoes and jello; Thursday chili beans, corn bread, green salad and peaches; Friday baked potatoes, cottage cheese, pickled beets and cherry crunch, The school is using the new cafeteria now, with soft music being played during the lunch hour, contributing to a relaxing atmosphere for the students. The total traffic death count for 1962 was tentatively set at 480. The worst single accident in the state during 1962 claimed five lives in Gilliam county. Both of the quadruple death accidents were head-on collis ions involving a car straying across the centerline and strik ing another. In 1961, four quadruple-death smash-ups ranked as "worst of the year." The worst traffic acci dent on record in Oregon oc curred in 1946 when a car on the wrong side of the road col lided with a bus. Eight persons died in the crash. Stitchettes Meet The fifth meeting of the Golden Stitchettes was held at the home of Mrs. Eva Griffith. The meeting was opened by Ruby Fulleton. The minutes were read and approved. We discussed about what we are going to do for our 4-H club window. We ate some candy and the meeting was adjourned.
