The opening exercises included a welcome piece by David Zehner, a skit, poems and song by the nursery and beginner classes. The older classes participated in the pageant, which was read by Mrs. Harvey Warner, music being directed by Mrs. Perry Pummel and Mrs. Albert Part low. The junior-choir and the angel-choir sang separately, and Mayu spirit of Chrljtmai Inspire mankind to persevere in Hi quest for the blessing of Peace on Earth, C. A. Mary was portrayed by Kay Huson,, Joseph by Jim Wilson, Shepherds were David Schmeder, Lee Huson, Jimmy McGinnis, Grace McGinnis, Har old Stitzel and George Kenney; wise men were Byron Hobbs, Bob McRae and Terry McCoy. A duet "No Room in the Inn" was sung by Bob Buchanan and Gene Gollyhorn. The Rev. John Kenney made opening and closing remarks, and supervised the distribution of treats following the program. Many Attend Veterans Dinner World War I Veterans of Col umbia River Barracks No. 379, and auxiliary members held their annual Christmas dinner at Redmen Hall in Umatilla Fri day, December 14. Those attend ing the turkey dinner from Irri gon were: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens, Mr. and Mrs. William Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Skiles, Mr. and Mrs. William Graybeal, Mr. and Mrs. Rees Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoadley, Mr. and Mrs. Roy V. Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Knighten and Mr. Leslie Smith. Pendleton visitors were Mrs. Thyrsa Lewis and Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Newquist, and from On tario Mr. Millikan, the depart ment commander. Mr. and Mrs. Warren McCoy spent Sunday through Wednes day in Portland. A 3c Leonard Bentley is on 30 day leave from the Air Force, and is spending his leave here with his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bentley, and visiting friends. He will be here through the holiday season, and then will be stat ioned at George Air Force Base near Victorville, Calif. A. C. Houghton Elementary has organized boys' intramural basketball, with games being played during the noon-hour from 12:15 to 12:30. Menus for A. C. Houghton Elementary for the week of De cember 17-21 are as follows: Monday barbecued pork, pota toes, oranges and hot rolls; Tues dayhot dog toasties, buttered coin, potato chips and peaches; Wednesday white beans, toma toes, hot rolls and dixie cups; Thursday turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, can died sweet potatoes, celery, cran berries, salad, hot rolls and Christmas cookies; Friday bak ed potatoes, cottage cheese and pear, green beans and graham cookies. Mrs. Beulah Pummel of Long Beach, Calif., is visiting here with her son s family, the Perry Pummels, and in Hermiston with her daughter's family, the Obern Standerfers. Mrs. Pummel plans to be here for the holiday season Mr. and Mrs. Dave Graybeal drove to Hcppner on business Thursday. Shower Honors Mrs. Mulkey Mrs Lloyd Cooley, assisted by Mrs. Ben McCoy and Mrs. James McRae, was hostess for a baby shower honoring Mrs. Jerry Mul key Monday evening. The 20 ladies present participated in several games, after which the gifts were opened. A cake, beaut ifully decorated by Mrs. Howard Gollyhorn, was cut and served with coffee and punch. Ten members of the Sewettes 4-II club, with one new member, Anna Sue Lesley, met Tuesday afternoon in the Irrigon school. Their leader, Mrs. John Swear- ingen, demonstrated the correct way to sew on a button. A singer sewing machine and the club's sewing boxes were on display. At their next meeting, which will be January 8, the club will study the various parts of the sewing machine. Hostess for the meet ing was Geralding Swearingen, and Joyce Jackson led in the playing of games. Mr. and Mrs. Mart AOKen ot Kennewick, visited in Irrigon Friday, enroute to Gardena, Calif., where they will spend Christmas season with their daughter's family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jennings, Gary and Jim. Mrs. D. L. Dewey, Mrs. Lee Gustafson, Mrs. Don Adams and Mrs. Hovd Hobbs shopped in Walla Walla Saturday. The Womcns Missionary Coun cil of the Assembly of God church met Thursday at the church to tie out quilts, and met later in the week to sew collars of gold taffeta to be worn over the Junior-choir robes. Twentv-four ladies and seven children were present at the Ladies' Home Extension meeting 1 ' ' i i i ml 9.,' LAUGHING MATTER ... Too embarrassed (or words, this four-year-old covers his giggles while attempting to tell Santa what he wants for Christmas. Could it be that Santa's beard tickled the young fellow? PINE CITY PINE CITY Pine City Exten sion club met Wednesday at the school for a business meeting and potluck luncheon, with nine members attending. Program planning was discussed by Mrs. Leo Ashbeck and Mrs. George Luciani. Gifts were exchanged after which the members work ed on Christmas projects. Raymond M. Porter returned from Pioneer Memorial hosital Sunday after spending a week there suffering from an ear in fection. Pendleton Grain Growers aux iliary met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. John Madison for a pot luck luncheon and gift exchange. The group had a potluck meal, which was followed by a demonstra tion on wrapping Christmas gifts, by Mrs. Paul Slaughter. Af ter the demonstration, gifts were exchanged and the ladies sang several Christmas carols. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson and family drove to Portland Thursday to have Jim's periodic checkup at the Shriners' hos pital. Mrs. Phoebe Bartholomew re turned Saturday by plane from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she has been visiting her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. 0. F. Bar tholomew. Mr. and Mrs, Leo Ashbeck and Mr. and Mrs. George Luciani spent last week-end in Portland. While there they viewed the tel evision interview of Martha Do herty and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Palmer. Ely Neighbors TO WISH YOU ALL THE THE CHRISTMAS SEASON BUILDERS SUPPLY IONE Grade Students Send Gifts to Hospital Sixth grade students of Mrs. Inez Erwin have already been busy spreading Christmas cheer in their own way. In November they conducted a popcorn and candy sale at their school (Unit A) and from the money they received sent a donation of $10 to help bring a brighter Christ mas to patients of the Eastern Oregon hospital in Pendleton. Through cooperation of their parents and friends at home, they also collected two large boxes of useful gifts to be sent to the state hospital. They ap preciate the cooperation of all who contributed to the success of the Christmas projects. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Raymond on Monday were Mr. and Mrs. Sire Sorenson of Hood River. Mrs. Sor enson is the mother of Mrs. Ray mond. Mr. Sorenson is working with the United Farm Real Es tate company as unit manager over Eastern Oregon, Washing ton and parts of Idaho. Mrs. Harry Duvall had as din ner guests on Sunday the Rev. and Mrs. Melvin Dixon and daughter Martie.
