The Department of Motor Vehicles cautioned that Novem ber and December rank as the highest accident- producing months of the year. Last year, 5,806 traffic accidents occurred in December and 5,577 were re ported in November. The average December brings 60X) traffic accidents, while Nov- mber generally sees about 5500 crashes reported. Generally, the period Is thought to produce more acci dents than other times of the year, because of favorable weather conditions, heavy urban traffic associated with holiday shopping and longer hours of darkness. The increase incidence of drinking and driving especial ly during December, also contri butes to tne record. The department urges people to adjust their driving to meet winter conditions, ana to prac tice all the rules of safe driving. HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES. Thursday.
