In the Gazette- ,14 usierouwD Aubrey Crum Rites Held in Monument By MARTHA MATTESON MONUMENT Funeral serv ices were held last Tuesday af ternoon, October 16, for Aubrey Crum, who died at the old home place on Cottonwood Sunday morning, October 14. He was born in California, and had spent his life in California and Ore gon. He was a World War I veteran and a member of Mon ument Post 148, American Leg ion. He leaves one sister in Cal ifornia; death came to one other sister there Sunday evening. His wire, Ldna oienger Crum. pre ceded him in death in October, 1957. They had no children. Pall bearers were Lynn Forrest, Mead Gilman, A. C. Oweings, Chester Rounds, Huston Leslie and Ro bert Holmes. Rev. Verne Wiese officiated at the service and the choir sang two numbers. Burial was in Shasta, Calif., with C. Driscoll in charge of arrange ments. A call came in the first of the week for helpers to the Colum bia Basin Power Co-od for helD on power lines. Norris Stubble- field, bonny Hiese and Owen Smith went down to Tillamook and then to Port Orford. They put in 12 hours work each day, coming home Sunday night. Marguerite Martin was home for the week-end from the val ley where she is in college. Dixie btubbletield was home for the week-end from her col lege work In La Grande. Lewis and Joe Battv of La Grande were over for the week end visiting friends and rela tives. Vera Gardner, Mattle and Ellen Stubblefield drove to Port land Saturday to spend a week. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Batty of La Grande have announced that their daughter Marge and hus band have a new baby son, James Lewis, weighing 6 lbs., 7 oz, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Cupper celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding anniversary Saturday afternoon at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Henry Cupper. There were around 70 people who call ed during the afternoon. The American Legion and Aux iliarv held their regular meet ings Thursday evening in the Legion hall. In September of 1961, sales in the county totaled only $5,498. This year to date, sales total $164,574, more than double last year's $71,613 to a similar date. "Sales of Series E and H Bonds in the state of Oregon last month amounted to 2,277,219, bringing the total for this year week-end visiting relatives. D. L.
