Residents Attend Funeral Rites Dates to Remember: Sept. 28 Three Links club Sept. 29 Hunting season opens Sept. 28 Riverside and lone (there) Sept. 30 Public Flower Show By LORRAINE BALL IONE Mrs. Lewis Ball, Mrs. Donald Ball, Elmer Peterson and Mrs. Clifford Aldrich, accoman ied Mr. and Mrs Vernon Chris topherson of Olex to Pendleton on Thursday of last week to attend the funeral services of Ralph Ledbetter who died on Sunday, September 16, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Estelle Garner. Mr. Ledbetter is a former lone and Lexington resident. He lived in this area until about 12 years ago. He is survived by his daugh ter Estelle, step-daughter Dor othy Christopherson of Olex and step-son Melvin Brady of Arling ton, a grandson, several brothers and sisters in North Carolina, a brother Bergen of Lexington and several local nieces, nephews and other relatives. His services were conducted from the Burns Mortuary in Pen dleton with interment In the Olney cemetery in Pendleton. Padbergs Attend Funeral Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Padberg and son Marvin were called to Portland for the funeral services on Tuesday of this week for Clarence E. Kruse, brother-in-law to Mr. Padberg. Mr and Mrs. Kruse were on their way to lone last Friday when he suffer ed a heart attack this side of Hood River. Mrs. Kruse is the former Pearl Padberg and they reside near Oswego. His services were held at the Finley Mort uary in Portland on Tuesday with interment at the family plot at Lake Grove. Besides his wife Pearl, he leaves one daugh ter, Mrs. Stanley (Karen) Tre maine. Debbie and Donna Palmer were honored guests on Tues day, September 18, at a birth day party at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palm er. Guests helping the girls cele brate their third birthday were Mrs. Harold Sherer, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Dale Ray, Mrs. Marilyn Childers, Harvey and Lorrie, Mrs. Dick Sherer, Scott and Todd and Mrs. Virginia Pettyjohn and Kimber Ann. That evening the Palmers were guests at the Dean Connor home at a dinner honoring the birthdays of the twins and of Mrs. Lincoln Nash. Also present were Mr. Nash, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Jen sen and Jodie of Bend. Among college students re entering the University of Ore gon this year Is Gary Brenner. It was incorrectly noted last week that he had enrolled at Eastern Oregon college. They toured the World's Fair while there and also enjoyed a boat cruise on the Puget Sound. Their son Kenneth, who has been vis iting for the past two weeks from San Leandro. Calif., left for home this past baturaay. Contributes to Purchase Of Shrubs Arnica Club met at the home of Mrs. Pete Cannon on Wednes day of last week with Mrs. Robert Jepsen as co-hostess. The club voted to give $25 to the lone Community church for purchase of shrubs to be planted at the church following the com pletion of the painting and other improvements. Public Flower Show Set For lone Staging Sunday Afternoon Beauty in flowers and in flow er arrangement will be in evi dence Sunday. September 30, at the annual fall flower show sponsored by the lone Garden club. Carrying out the theme, "Garden Treasures" unus u a 1 combinations are expected to be displayed as the beauty of jew els and jewel tones are com bined with garden flowers to please the eye of the viewer. It is the desire of the com mittees in charge that anyone in the area that has something of interest to display will share it and enter either in the novice (inexperienced) class or advan ced classes. Entries may be brought to the cafetorium Sat urday between 5 and 5:30 p.m. as well as Sunday morning, be tween 8 and 10:30 a.m. Judging by accredited judges will be be tween 10:30 and 2 p.m. The show is open to the public between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. Sunday, with a silver tea served during the afternoon. Possible entries outlined by the committee total 252 for the amateur and experienced in both adult and junior (12 and under) groups. Complete sched ules in both horticulture and decorative arrangement divis ions mav be secured from com mittee heads or Mrs. William Rawlins, general chairman, or Mrs. Elbe Akers, schedules chair man. A specification in the horti culture division is that the speci men must be grown by the ex hibitor and labeled for identifi cation, and some foliage must be included. Containers will be provided at the show for those exhibiting. First, second and third place winners will be awarded ribbons In each class, with a sweepstakes award for top showman. Week-end houseguests of Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Norene, were Mrs. Claire Macauley and daughter, Carol Sue, of Prosser. Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Spaulding and daughter, Janice, are va cationinf in Canada after view ing the World's Fair for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Bandy Lott and family were joined by Mrs. Lott's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ken nedy, Walla Walla, for a trip to the World's Fair a few days last week. . Poisoning Of Dogs, Cats Evident in lone Residents in the lone com munity are investigating the re cent selge of poisoning which has taken place the past two weeks to pet dogs and cats. At least three dogs and seven cats have been reported killed by some type of poison or pois onous foods consumed in either downtown or residential areas. Families are fearful that small children might also become vic tims of the poison, and extreme caution is urged In picking up and consuming any suspicious kind of food. Anyone with a helpful lead is asked to inform the authorities. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Worden and sons Bobby and David vis ited her brother, Leo Stienberger in Seattle over the week-end. While there they attended the World's Fair. Rhea Creek Club Elects Officers Dale Van Blokland was elec ted president of the Rhea Creek Livestock club recently when the club met at the Rhea Creek Grange hall. Other officers for the coming year are Bobby Har ris, vice-president; Carol Raw lins, secretary; Hal Bergstrom, news reporter; and Tom Rawlins, sergeant-at-arms. Joe Hay, club agent, was present to check member's record books for the past year. The books are to be entered in the county record book contest. Theclub's goals which were set at the beginning of the year were accomplished 100 percent. New members in the club will be David and Dean Wright, form er members of the Hardman Livestock club. Other members on the new enrollment form are Kenneth Wright, David and John Hall, Bob and John Harris, Hal and Bruce Bergstrom, Charlie Anderson, Dale Van Blokland, Tom, Carol, and John Rawlins. Leader is Wilbur Van Blokland.
