Boardman Schools' Registration Totals 113 By MARY LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Sixty-two stu dents registered at Riverside High school last Thursday, and Ron Daniels, principal, stated that there were 11 more to register. By classes this included 17 sen iors, 20 juniors, 18 sophomores and 18 freshmen. Boardman grade school had 51 pupils to register, with 12 in the first grade, 13 in the second, seven in the third, five in the fourth, eight in the fifth and six in the sixth. Classes began at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, with buses leaving the school at 7:30 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Orvin Potter and children Jeanne and Francis of Vancouver, Wn visited at the home of Potter's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, from Wednesday till Saturday. Fri day they and Mrs. Thorpe and daughters, Sandra and Teresa went to Union to visit at the home of Mrs. Thorpe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith. Mrs. Arthur Allen went to Sunnyside, Wn. the first of the week to see her granddaughter, Cami Allen of Granger, Wn., who was in the Valley Memorial hos pital. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones of Vancouver, Wn., arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen Friday to spend the week end. Mrs. Charles Higuera and children Susan, Karen and Jeff rey of Kennewick, Wn., visited from Tuesday till Thursday at the homes of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ferguson, and her brothre-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bedord. Mrs. Ferguson returned home with her. Other visitors at the Bedord home included, Mrs. Tom Pace and daughter Nancy, Mrs. Nora Ejelstad and daughters Diane and Sherri, all of La Grande. Mrs. Emmett McKenzie and daughter Tamara are here from Minot, N. Dakota to look after her trailer court. Mr. and Mrs. Eileen Ely and daughter Eileen went to Wal lowa Lake Friday to spend the week-end with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. El don Lilly of La Grande. Richard Watts has returned home from Boise, Idaho, where he took an IBM course at the Boise School of Business. He leaves September 9 for Los An geles. Calif., where he will be employed at the Thycol Missile plant. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Robinson were their grandsons, John and Dale Robinson of Powell Butte. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow accompanied their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Marlow of Pendleton, to Talent Saturday to spend the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Marlow. Returns From European Tour Beverly Donovan has returned from a two-months tour of 14 European countries. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Donovan, and sister Sharon met her in Portland on her return. They visited in Salem at the home of Mrs. Donovan's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dunn, and then to Seattle, Wn., to visit Donovan's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ackels. They also went to the World's Fair. On their return home they went to Ukiah to visit Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lewis. ALBERT PARTLOW IRRIGON Elder Reo Clyde has arrived to assume pastoral duties of the Irrigon and Herm iston Seventh-Day Adventist churches. The Clyde family will live in Hermiston. Coming here from Grandview, Wn., Elder Clyde replaces Elder Melvin Oss, who was recently transferred to Colfax, Wn. Ninety-one members of the Seventh-day Adventist churches of Irrigon and Hermiston held a get-together and picnic for two families who are leaving the communities. Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry McGee are moving to Denver, and the Vernon Gerberdings of Irrigon will leave soon for Salem. Mrs. Joyce Puckett Woods of Hood River visited Sunday and Monday with the Don Kenneys and other friends, and also at tended the Alumni-reunion. Mr. and Mrs. George Cunningham of Portland were also week-end guests of the Kenneys, and also attended the Alumni-reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Ruby Koltern, who spent the past summer in Grandview, Wn., were guests of the Hadwicks Thursday through Monday. After a short visit in Portland, the Kolterns will re turn to their home in Arizona. Guest of the Hadwicks the prev ious week-end was Mrs. Florence Eastman of Sioux City, Iowa. ' Rev. and Mrs. LaVern Pember and sons, Merrill, Marvin and Arlyn, were week-end guests of the Harvey Warners. Mrs. Nora Wilson of Portland arrived in Irrigon last Sunday, and has spent the week with her sons, Charles Wilson and family, and Chester Wilson and family, and visiting other friends. Have Coast Outing Mr. and Mrs. Gary Pittock and Patti of Boise, Idaho spent Thurs day night with Mrs. Pittock's folks, the John Swearingens. Fri day, both families drove to the coast at Garibaldi, where they went deep-sea fishing. They were surprised to discover that the co-pilot of the chartered boat on which they were passen gers, was Leo Pysher, former Irri gon band instructor. Mr. Pysher is now the principal at Long Creek. Swearingens and Pittocks returned to their homes Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Andrews and son, Kenneth of Portland, arrived in Irrigon Friday to spend the week-end with the Elmer Zehners, and to attend the Alumni-reunion. They re turned to Portland Sunday even ing. Elmer's sister, Mattie Zeh tier, also of Portland, came with the Andrews, and will stay with the Zehners until school com mences in Portland around the 10th of September. Mrs. Ellen Caudle, third grade teacher, spent the past week at the home of her sister, Mrs. Elvie Rizor, in Union. While there, she was appointed judge of the 4-H health exhibits at the Union County Fair which was held in La Grande. Mrs. Millie O'Rourke of La Grande, spent the past week with her daughter's family, the Warren McCoys. Week-end guests of McCoys were Mr. and Mrs. Herb Villinis and family, also of La Grande. Mrs. Villinis and Mrs. McCoy are sisters. Royal D. Hovinghoff, who is stationed at McCord Air Force Base, is home for the week-end, visiting his mother, Mrs. Lee Le Blanc and family. Mrs. James Shoun, Mrs. Lou ella Sherman and daughter, Raeline of Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Acock and family of Umatilla, Mr. and Mrs, Glen O'Brien and family of Longview, Wn were in Irrigon Sunday, visiting Mrs. Louella Acock and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Acock and family at the Dean Acock resi dence. Mrs. Myrtle McNamee, who has spent the past two months in Belton, Mo. with her daugh ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Carpenter, arrived in Irri gon Thursday afternoon accom panied by the Carpenters who are moving from Missouri to Cal ifornia. After spending the week-end In Irrigon, the Carpen ters and Mrs. McNamee left for The Dalles, where they will visit Mrs. McNamees son, Jim Mc Namee, and his family. From there they will drive to Santa Monica, Calif., where Mr. Carp enter will be employed by Doug las Aircraft. Mrs. McNamee plans to stay with them until Mrs. Carpenter's health is improved. Mr. Merlin Waller of Boise, Idaho, is spending this week as a guest of Johnny Wilson. Among those attending the rodeo were Lon Merrill, Guy Chapin, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mc Daniel and children Steve, Scott, Ricky, Ginger and Dixie; Bonnie Kessell, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mc Daniel, Kinard McDaniel, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel and daughter Cassy, and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hams. Dinner guests at the Kinard McDaniel home Monday were their two sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas McDaniel, Mel vin and Iva Lou, of Heppner, and Mr. and Mrs. Dclvin Mc Daniel and Karen of Pendleton. Bill Kessell of Pendleton call ed at the Blaine Chapel home Thursday to visit his mother, Mrs. Eslie Walker and sister, Bonnie Kessell. Morris Doonev returned to Mit chell Friday to be with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Dooney and attend school. He has been working at the Chapin Creek Guard station this summer. Mrs. Bob Stevens went to Heppner Saturday to attend the wedding of Sandra Jones and Jon Blake. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bleak man of Rufus stopped in Hard man Saturday on their way to Bull Prairie for a week-end out ing. Kenneth at one time worked for the forest service at Tupper station. Willard Wilhelm and John Hawks of Prineville were brief visitors in Hardman on Satur day. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wilson of Kinzua called on Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel Monday evening. Mrs. Florence McMillan is spending some time in Portland where she is recuperating from minor surgery at Good Samaritan hospital on Thursday of last week. Mrs. McMillan has spent the last two weeks with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Irvin of Idlyld Park. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nichols of Portland visited his mother, Mrs. Ina Nichols over the week-end. Wilson Victim Of Heart Attack Alfred Harold Wilson, 48, a resident here for the past 27 years, died of a heart attack while working with the Morrow county road crew near Lexington on Thursday, August 30. He had been employed by the county for about 10 years. Memorial services were held at the Heppner Christian church Sunday at 3 p.m., with inter ment following in the Heppner Masonic cemetery. The Rev. Charles Knox officiated at the service Born' April 3, 1914 at Mc Donald, Kansas, he was the son of Peter A. and Cora Mae Wil son. He was married to Alpha Lesser on July 6, 1948, at Walla Walla, Wn. Survivors include his widow, Alpha, Heppner; mother, Cora Mae Wilson, Heppner; brother, Hubert, Heppner; sister, Mildred Morris, Pendleton; two stepsons, Conrad Lesser, Weston, and Michael Lesser, Heppner, and two granddaughters.
