Registration Slated At Riverside High By MARY LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Registration for Riverside High school students will be held in the school cafe teria Aug. 30, from 10 to approxi mately 11:30 a. m. Boardman elementary students will register at the same time as the high school. Seventh and eighth grade students will not register until Sept. 4, which is the first full day of school for all Morrow county students. Boardman busses will leave the school at 9:20 a. m. on regis tration day, and will follow the same routes as last year. They will return the students home as soon as registration Is completed. Registration charges will be the same as last year, except that students enrolled In book keeping or business law will be required to purchase workbooks. Total registration fees will run from $10 to $17, depending on the subjects taken by the student. There will be one new teacher at Riverside this year. Ted Tal bot, a graduate of the College of Idaho, will coach basketball, as sist with girls physical education, and will be librarian. He will be here afternoons, and will teach at Irrigon mornings. Other Riverside instructors will be: Ron Daniels, principal, teach ing social problems and business law; Ronald Black, vocational agriculture and shop; James Har per, baseball coach, boys physi cal education and mathematics; Dante Daltoso, football coach, social studies and speech; Lester Leroux, science; Al Reeves, band and music appreciation here aftenoons, at Irrigon mornings; Delia Lindsay, English and Horn-: economics; Ruth Coy, English and commercial subjects, There will be two new teachers In the erade school. Mrs. Ted Talbot, also a gaduate of the College of Idaho, will teacn me second grade. She taught one year at Salem, and last year at Nampa, Idaho. Mrs. Evelvn Mclnnes will teach the third and fourth grades. She has taught at Echo the past six years, ana auenaeu Eastern Washington College at Cheney, Wash. Other grade school teachers are Mrs. Zoe Billings, first grade, and Mrs. La Vern mtlow, nun and sixth. When the schools start Septem ber 4 the busses will leave the school at 7:30 a. m. Drivers will be Ed Prevost and Robert Har wood. Harwood is also school custodian. Cafeteria cooks will be Mrs. Delbert Carpenter and Mrs Everett Daniels. Mrs. Ralph Skoubo will return as olflce sec retay. Football uniforms will be giv en out at Riverside High school Friday, August 24, at 7 p. m. Practice will start at appoxlmate ly six p. m. All boys should be on hand at this time. Vernon Russell and Wayne Kuhn were appointed city coun cilmen to finish out the terms of Ray Conyers and Ray Gronquist who have moved away, at a meeting of the City Council last Friday night. Mrs. Lowell Shattuck was in charge of the spiritual program. Members of the Boardman Gar den club held their annual fam ily picnic Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, with about 16 present. Mrs. Charles McKenzie and children Charles, Lois and Dan iels visited the past two weeks in Tygh Valley at the home of her father, R. H. Clark. Mrs. Claud Coats has been a patient in the Good Shepherd hospital in Hermiston since Mon day of last week. Mrs. Marion Morlan and daughters Nancy, Cindy, and An drea of Kennewick, Wash, spent last week camping out on Bla lock Island across the Columbia River from here. Kathy Skoubo, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar Skoubo, suffered a broken arm in a fall from a yard swing last week. The arm Is in a cast. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sicard and children Roberta and Kenneth are vacationing this week at Wallowa Lake. Mr. anl Mrs. Joe Tatone and children Linda and Jody left Monday to spend this week at the World's Fair in Seattle. Mrs. Summers' Mother Dies Mrs, John Johnson of Vancou ver, Wash., mother of Mrs. John Summers died suddenly at her home last Friday while Mr. and Mrs. Summers and sons Richard and Ronnie were visiting at the Johnson home. She had not been ill before she was stricken. The funeral was held Monday. Linda and Jody Tatone spent last week in Portland visiting at the homes of their uncle and aunt, JVlr. and Mrs. Charles Child ress, and their grandmother, Mrs. Charles Wicklander. Visitors from Wednesday till Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tatone were Mrs. Ta tone's sister, Mrs. Mary Knopp and son Greg, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Steve Tatone and chil dren Cheri and Gary, all of Port land. Gary and Greg remained here for the week-enu. Annie Obermeier has returned home after spending the summe: in St. Helens at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs. Bill Thorpe, and he brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Obermeier. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderegg have returned home from a three weeks stay at their summe home at Long Beach, Wash. Funeral Services For E. Barnard Held Wednesday By MARTHA MATTESON MONUMENT Funeral services for Earl Barnard, 83, who died Sunday morning, August 19, at the John Day Clinic, were held in John Day Wednesday, August 22 at 2 p.m. Burial was in Ham ilton cemetery. Mr. Barnard just reached his 83rd birthday, hav ing been born August 15, 1879. Survivors include his widow, Ivy; one daughter, Rita King; grand son, Earl Frank King; brother, Fred Barnard of Union; and one sister, Mrs. Eff io Brierly of Port land. Mr. and Mrs. Mead Oilman, Ruth Ann Capon and her mother, Mrs. Robert Gertson, drove to La Grande Friday for the graduation of Donald Gil man and Robert Gertson, who received their Bachelor Degrees from EOC. Don will be principal at Condon and Robert will teach here at Monument. Donald Oilman and family spent the week-end here with his parents, then drove on to their home in Condon on Mon day. Elaine Richards and Vicky Smith accompanied Ben Spain to C'ouer d' Alone, Idaho, on Thursday where they visited with Ben's niece home Saturday. They returned Mr. and Mrs. made a business land last week. Jesse Allen of Owen Smith trip to Port- Canyon Cih was in town Thursday visiting with friends. Mrs. Frieda Wheeler and son Bobby Joe moved to Pendleton Thursday where they expect to make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thorn brice ami their five children of Tigard visited recently with her aunt, Mrs. Helen Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Alton (Pete) Christenson and two sons of Portland spent the week here visiting his mother, Mrs. Helen Brown. While here they drove to Lexington where they lived when he was a boy. Darrell Dul a n e y ' s oldest daughter fell out of a tree re cently, breaking her right arm in two places. She was taken to John Day for medical treat ment. Mrs. Freida Wheeler and son Bobby, Mrs. Jessie Scott and son Robert Dale were supper guests recently at the Matteson home in honor of Elmer's 71st birth day. Harold Lipper and Maynard Hamilton drove to Heppner Mon day on business. Mrs. Lula Settle, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Howell drove to John Day and Canyon City Saturday for medical checkups. Everett Howell drove to Port land Saturday to get his wife, who has been in school there for two months. She will teacli in Mt. Vernon this year. Their home is on Wall Creek. Bonnie Lewis of Seattle, Wn., spent a week hero visiting her niece, Mrs. Rav Davis and family, a nephew, Earl Lewis and fam ily, and groat niece, Mrs. Tom Erhardt and family. A baby girl weigning 5 lb. 15 oz. was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dick Botts of Ontario, on August 1. The baby's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hinkley of Ontar io, and Mr. and Mrs. James Botts of Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Al Reeves and children have returned from va cationing in Oroville, Wash., where they spent a week with Mrs, Reeve's mother, Mrs. Cleo Allison, and in Sandpoint, Idaho, where they spent a week with Mr. Reeves' folks. School Reunion August 26 An alumni reunion for former Irrigon High school students, teachers and employees, will be held at the school house Sunday, August 26. The school house will be open at 12:00 noon, and the potluck meal will be served at 2:00 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. William Mueller and daughter, Shirley of Color ado Springs, Colo, and Miss Ila Theime, of Farmlngton, New Mexico, were recent overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Coy. Callers in the Coy home that evening were Rev. and Mrs. James Rosentrater and sons from Hermiston, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Coy. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Creighton of The Dalles spent three days last week with Mrs. Creighton's parents, Mr. and Mrs- LaVern Christiansen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Reeder of La Grande spent Monday and Tuesday with their (laughter's family, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stewart, Tommy and Sharon, and took Sharon back to La Grande for a week's vacation. Mrs. Anita Littrell, accompan ied by Mrs. Nellie Hoyt and Miss Maude Alexander, former Irrigon school teacher, attended the Na tional League of American Pen women last Sunday. They met in Prosser, Wash, at the home of Mrs. Cormac Thompson, and while there, they also went through the new radio station KACA, which Mr. and Mrs. Thompson plan to open in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Williams and family of Vancouver, Wash, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gilpin and family. City Council Has Meeting At the August City Council meeting, a decision was made to purchase paint for posts that will be used for installing traffic signs within the city limits of Ir rigon. Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc pre sented an application for their cafe to be licensed to sell bottled beer and their request was granted. Ronald McCoy, former Irrigon resident, who has been recently discharged from the Air Corps, visited at the Albert Partlow home Tuesday enroute to Van couver, Wash, where he is now employed by a barge company. Mr. and Mrs. Don Acock and children of Portland visited with his mother, Mrs. Louella Acock last Sunday. They returned to Portland to attend the funeral of Don's aunt, Mrs. Hazel Townsend, who passed away Saturday even ing after sustaining severe burns, incurred when she dropped her ignited cigarette lighter, which caught her clothing afire. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bandt and daughter, Mrs. Ronald Matlack recently vacationed for two weeks in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, where they visited the Brandt's daughter's family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Berry, Jr., and daughter, Freddie. Mr- Berry is stationed with the Air Force in Sault Sainte Marie, and this was the first time the Brandts had seen their granddaughter, Fred die. Mrs. Matlack went from Michigan to Massa.c h u s e 1 1 s where she will join her husband who is stationed in the army there, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brandt returned to Irrigon, ar riving home Friday morning. Miss Linda Furgeson of Silver ton, has spent the past montn with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Weaver. Her sister Laurie Furgeson and Mrs. Frank Fleming and two boys of Port land arrived Tuesday to spend a week with the Weavers. Mrs. Fleming is the Weaver's daugh ter. The young couple are making their home at Boardman. Airman 2c Jerry L. Franks is home on furlough from the Phil lipine Islands, where he has been stationed In the Air Force for the past 18 months. After his 35-day furlough, he will be stationed in Japan for 15 months. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Gasser and children left for Portland Friday to visit Mr. Gasser's brothers and their families, and to attend the professional football game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings. They returned to Irrigon Sunday morning. Mrs. Ellen Jackson and chil dren have moved into the apart ment located over Jorgensens Grocery. Many Attend Board Meeting A delegation of approximately 40 Irrigon citizens motored to Heppner Wednesday evening to attend the county board meeting, where discussion was held per taining to the site to be chosen for location of Riverside High school. No decision was reached, and a date was set for a future meeting regarding the matter. Bill Schmeder and Rees Mor gan left Thursday in Morgan's Camper, for the Wallowa country, where they plan to camp and fish. They returned home on Sun day. SP-3 Susan faxson was home on furlough from Fort Knox, Ky., where she has been stationed for the past two years. After spending a week here, she left Wednesday to return to Fort Knox. A-lc Donald Eppenbach and a friend, A-l3 Don Morris from Bealee Air Foce Base, Calif., were here last week on a 10-day leave. Mr. and Mrs. Warren McCoy drove to LaGande over the week end and visited Warren's sister, Mrs. Frank Stewart and family. On the way home, they picked huckleberries in the Kamela area. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson took their daughter Carmine to the Pendleton Airport Friday to board a plane for Denver. From Denver, Camine will return to Springfield, Missouri.
