The min utes of the previous term were read and approved. Due to an over-assessment, Emil Groshen was refunded the sum of $42.14. An election was held on July 25, 1962, and 37 votes were cast in favor of, and none against, forming the Boardman Vector Control District. An election was held on the 16th day of July, and 79 votes were cast in favor of, and 10 against, forming the lone-Lexington Cemetery Maint. Dlst. Three directors elected were: Albert Lindstrom, lone; Edgar E. Peck, Lexington; and Carl Troedson, lone. The Court ordered that County vehicles be used for business riurnoRPS onlv. A resolution was drawn up by the Countv Court that all County employees be granted 5 days sick leave with pay, in any one calendar vear. and 10 days va cation with pay in any one cal endar year. Oscar Wilde Hardman and Rhea Creek News (Held over from last week) Hardman, Rhea creen Around 30 people were present at the Rhea Creek Grange picnic Sun day at the mouth of Chapin Creek. It was cold and cloudy part of the day, but all had a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jackson and family of Portland and Mrs. Thelma Maley of Condon spent Sunday visiting at the home ot their brother-in-law ana sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Graves moved their trailer house from Fort Lewis a week ago Friday to Hardman, where they bought property from Kinard McDaniel, and known as the old Hams place. Dean is discharged from the army and is helping his father, John Graves, on the ranch. Mrs. Mary Wright was admit ted to St. Anthony hospital Fri day. She returned to her home Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Don Heliker of lone and Henry Graves of Sparta were visitors at the home of their brother and sister-in-law on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Harsh man of Heppner visited Mrs. Har.shman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kinard McDaniel on Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Eslie Walker were in town over the week-end from where he is camped on Ditch Creek while cutting logs. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hams spent Sunday in lone with their sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Ves ter Hams and Mr. and Mrs. La Verne Hams. Bobbie Dean Mahon visited with his grandmother In Hepp ner Monday through Wednesday. Mrs. Ivan McDaniel and Sammy of Baker called at the homes of friends and relatives here last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Erie Blake of Heppner visited at the Sam Mc Daniel home on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stevens left for Venita Sunday to at tend the funeral of Mrs. Stevens' brother, Eldon Gammell, who passed away Friday in the Eugene hospital. Mrs. Joe Engleman and son Frankie of lone, Mrs. Dolly Fraters of HePDner and Mrs. LaVelle Hams helped Mrs. Blaine Chapel celebrate her birthday last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel and grandson, Bobbie Mahon, left Friday to take care of the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Rice of lone while they are on va cation. Mrs. H. C. Leslie received word Sunday of the death of a cousin at Hamilton. Oren McDaniel returned home Friday after staying a week with his daughter, Mrs. Morgan Med lock. Guests this week in the home of Dr. and Mrs. L. D. Tibbies are Mrs. Tibbies' mother, Mrs. I. M. Turnage of Maysville, Mo., and her sister, Miss Aria Turn age of North Kansas City, Mo. The two traveled west by train, arriving last Tuesday for a two week's visit. So live that you help to answer the world's problems not add to them. D. Drake Named To Stockton Post Donald E. Drake, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray brake, has been recently appointed to the pos ition of public information and training officer for the city of Stockton, Calif., according to word received by his parents. The position entails varied pub licity and personnel responsi bility in the municipal Droeram for the city of over 86,000 pop ulation. For the past year, Mr. Drake was on the staff of a Stockton public relations firm, and had 15 years of experience in writ ing for and editing newspapers. He served on the staffs of the Stockton Record, Portland Ore gonian, Vancouver, (B. C.) Sun, and the Boise, Idaho, Statesman. Mr. Drake was born and raised In Heppner, graduating from Heppner High school with the class of 1936. He attended Ore gon State University, majoring in education and engineering, and served as editor of the col lege paper, the Barometer, while in school. He is married, has a family of four sons and makes his home in Stockton. He served in Alaska and Europe as an infantry officer in World War II, and as public information officer for 7Vi years for the 41st Infantry Division, Oregon-Washington Nati o n a 1 Guard. He is a major in the Army Reserve. His appointment to the new position was announced in July by John Lilly, city manager for the city of Stockton. BATTERY TROUBLE?
