Hughes, former Oregon resident who has spent the past five years in Seattle, it was announced this week by Luman G. Miller, ORA man ager. Employed by the Union Pacific since 1955, Hughes worked in Portland and Med ford before assignment in 1957 as traffic agent in Seattle. Prior to 1955 he was a telegraph op erator with the Southern Pa cific in Oswego. Oregon Rail road association which repre sents Union Pacific, Southern Pacific and S. P. and S. rail roads in Oregon, maintains headquarters at 424 Henry Building, Portland. Ann Jones Attends State FHA Meeting The executive council of the Oregon Association of Future Homemakers of America held its annual planning meeting at Delake, Oregon, August 610. Ann Jones, FIIA state president, of Heppner chapter was one of the nine officers in attendance al the meeting where business was transacted and the year's pro gram was outlined. A report was given one evening by the members of the council who went to the national Future Homemakers of America meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, July 9-13 where the theme was, "Guide posts for Progress." The new three-year program of work was adopted. Plans for the state meeting to be held on the Oregon State Uni versity campus, March 1-2 were started. Work was also started by the parliamentarian on the revision of the state constitution in order to have it conform with the new by-laws adopted at the national meeting in July. At least two of the state officers will participate in each of the seven fall district meetings These are to be held in Central Linn- The Dalles, Ontario, St. llel ens, (Jresham, North Bend and Med- ford. J ACTION LIKE this will be commonplace on North Fork lake Sun day, Estacada, August 19, as more than 100 of the world's fastest outboard hydroplanes race for the Electric Cup. The trophy race, sponsored by Portland General Electric company, will be the main feature of Estacada's annual Water Festival. Race site is on reservoir behind PGE's North Fork dam on the Clackamas river five miles above Estacada. Barratts Visit Here; Like Arizona Home Mr. and Mrs. J. G. (Garnett) Barratt of Mesa, Ariz., are visit ing friends here on a return trip to their old home town. They flew to Portland recently and came to Heppner with son Jim Barratt and family, Barratt, former Morrow county judge, says that he and Mrs. Bar ratt are quite taken with Arizona and find the climate conducive to better health. Temperature has been running well over the 100 mark but it doesn't seem un comfortable because of the low humidity. The new development in which they live is growing rapidly and now has some 100 families. A check among 60 families showed that they came from 27 states, Judge Barratt said. He has been elected president of the commun ity center development which is interested in developing facilities for the enjoyment and comfort of the residents. The Barratts plan to remain until shortly after September 1 and are staying here in one of their own apartments. Jim, who left his family here for a few days, returned over the week-end to take them back to Corvallis.
