Hunters' Safety Course Set Aug. 13-17 By LORRAINE BALL IONE Robert DeSpain of the lone Sharpshooters club an nounced this week that classes will be Riven to the public this month for those who are inter ested in obtaining their hunter safety certificates for the com ing deer and elk seasons. The public is reminded that the new law went into effect the first of January in the state of Oregon that no one under 12 years of age may obtain or purchase a big game tag. All persons between the age of 12 and 18 must pass the hunter saiety course and receive a cer tificate or card which must be structor. in their possession to hunt on any land other than their own private ground. These cards do not have to be presented to purchase a license. However they must be in the possession of the hunter. The course will be offered free Monday through Friday nights beginning sharply at 7 p. m. at the lone High school August 13 through 17. No more classes will be given before hunting season for the public in lone. All who are interested may contact any of the four lone leaders: Robert DeSpain, Glenn Biehl, Pete Can non or Don Ball. Larry has just recently received a promotion. Several families in town are in the process of building patios adjoining their homes. Under construction is one at the Edmond Bristow home, also at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Matthews. Mrs. Elva Cox of Seattle, Wn., is visiting this week with her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jannsen and her father, Gus Jannsen. Her son, John, has been visiting with the Jannsens the past two weeks and win return home with his mother this week-end. Mrs. Pete Cannon and Mrs. Ray Boyce went to Camp Adams on Saturday to bring home some of the campers who had been there the past week. Also making the trip were Mr. and Mrs, Krebbs. Mr. and Mrs. Savage have purchased the Fred Ely house on Second street and are in the process of moving. Accepts College Position Mrs. Eulenna Cor ley and daughter Sherry visited recently for a week in Corvallis with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Holderman. Mrs. Corley accepted a position in the ex tension unit at the university in Corvallis. She -and Sherry will be moving to Corvallis about August 18. Mrs. Diane Essex and child ren visited in the lone area on Sunday with her sisters and families, Mrs. Eulenna Corley and Mrs. Joe Gaarsland. Officiating for the services was Father Bruce Spen cer of the Heppner Episcopal church. Mrs. George Munford of Idaho, mother of Mrs. Rietmann was among the relatives and area friends attending. In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to the lone Public Library for the children's section of books. Mrs. Joel Engleman and Frankie spent Thursday, August 2 at the homo of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel and Cassie, in honor of Mrs. Chapel's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ring and children of Payette, Ida., were guests Friday night and Satur day at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ring. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jannsen and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ball. Mrs. Ruth Benson and child ren have moved into the Jesse I Griffin home on Third street. The house had recently been va cated by Mr. and Mrs. William Mnanz, who nave moved to Pen dleton.
