Easterners Visit Mr. and Mrs. Earl Maberry and family of Detroit, Mich., were in Heppner Tuesday visit ing Mrs. Maberry's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Whitesmith, and family. The Michiganders had been to Seattle to the World's Fair and were en route home, expecting to travel by Yellowstone Park. The visit marked the first time that the two families had seen each other for six years. Education isn't play and it can't be made to look like play. It is hard, hard work. Zw GONTY'S By MARTHA MATTESON MONUMENT Services were held Tuesday in Long Creek for red Legler who was found bat urday morning hanging from a rope iti his garage at the Tom Ross home in Hamilton. He was found by George Johnson. Sur vivors include a daughter, Joy, two sons, Jack and Merrill, his widow, and a brother, George Burial was in Hamilton. A- number of people drove to Long Creek Saturday to attend the services for the late Bill Weissenflu, who died July 31 at tne M. Antnony hospital, Pendle ton, after a long illness. He had served as a member of the board of directors of the Columbia Pow er Coop since June, 1953. He leaves his widow, Bertha, and a son, C. V., of Long Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Howell and two sons of Spray visited Satur day at the Frank Howell home. Fire fighters were called out Thursday evening when the city dump caught on fire. No serious damage was done. Bud Boyd and son of Eugene stopped in Monument July 31. Bud lived in the Kimberly area several years ago with his broth er Joel before moving to the val ley. Mr. and Mrs. John Erhardt and family of Portland are visiting their son Mr. and Mrs. Tom Er hardt and family. Jack Cavender and daughter Susan spent Monday in Pendle ton on business. L. L. Flowers drove to Portland Monday evening for parts for his harvesting machines, returning home Tuesday. Harold Dean Woods has moved from the VanDetta home back to Long Creek. Joan Mullins, Linda Roberts and two daughters moved to Sa lem where they expect to work in the cannery. Mrs. Evelyn Farrens of Hepp ner is visiting her son Darrell and family. Mr. and Mrs, can cox ana two children of North Powder spent the week-end here visiting their son Bob Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Johnson, Frances Noland and children spent Saturday at Prineville on Dusiness ana visited witn Mr. and Mrs. Ansil Martin and children. Word was received here of the death the past week in Portland of Mrs. Ida M. Boyd, former res ident of Kimberly. She is sur vived by two sons, Bud and Joel. Kansas Picnic Set The annual Jewell county, Kansas, picnic will be held at Kenilworth Park, 3030 S. E. Hol- gate, in Portland at noon on August 19, it is announced.
