Rietmann Family Gathers At Condon for Reunion Heppner 79th Year, Number 19 By LORRAINE BALL The annual Rietmann family reunion was held at the Van Rietmann home in Condon on Sundav. Those from the lone area at tending included Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rietmann, Harold and Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rietmann and sons; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rietmann and sons; Mr. and Mrs. Omar Rietmann, and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rietmann. Attending from Kennewick, Wayne showed his collection of slides taken when stationed re cently in the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaiian theme was also used in the decor for the reunion party. Mr. and Mrs. John Armington and family visited with the Dale Ravs last week. Mr. Armington continued on a sales trip, while Mrs. Armington remained for a longer visit Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer and Gazette-Times Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, July 12, 1962 Sec. Sundav evening the Marion Palmers hosted a barbecue for the Lee Palmers, the Dale Rays and Mrs. John Armington. Sherry Corley and Sue Town send spent a week at Camp Adams recently working with the youth groups there. Sherry worked in the office and Sue worked In the kitchen. They went with the OHarras of Condon. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen visited in the valley following their attendance at the Miss Uni verse contest. They also spent a few days at Hat Rock this past week. Return From Rainbow Assembly Miss Linda Halvorsen, daueh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halv orsen, returned home on July 9 following a ten-day trip that took her and Shannon Mahonev of Heppner to Chicago, 111., where they attended the Supreme As sembly of International Order for Rainbow Girls. Linda attended a special din ner for those who had received the honored degree of the Grand Cross. The girls went sightseeing while they were there and along the way. If J I Ml" , FIRST LIEUTENANT Dennis E Swanson of lone, has been awarded United States Air Force pilot wings following his graduation from pilot training at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. Lieutenant Swanson, a graduate of the University of Portland, flew T-37 and T-33 jet trainers during the year-long flying training course. He also received special academic and military train ing. The lieutenant is being reassigned to Pope AFB, N. C, for advanced flying training in the C-123 transport aircraft. A graduate of lone High school, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Garland L. Swanson of lone. Lieutenant Swanson and his wife, the former Marg aret J. Ingram of Pendleton, have a son, Michael, and a daughter, Antoinette. ! Davidson went to East Lake recently for a few days of fishing. They reported having had good luck. Sharon Crabtree was in Port land over the week-end to at tend the wedding of a girl friend who worked with her at the uni versity of Oregon hospital. Boys Return From California Harold Rietmann and Wayne Ball returned to lone on Thurs day evening from Oakland Calif., where they met Wayne Rietmann following his disem barkment from the Hawaii Islands. Wayne has completed his army service and is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Dave Rietmann. The boys drove home, spending one night in Sacramento and one in Klamath Falls. Mrs. Cleo Drake is in the pro cess of taking a special city pop ulation census. If any one is not called upon in the near future, please contact Mrs. Drake. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Shockley and children of Vancouver, Wn visited in lone this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Hedman and other friends, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Melina re turned to lone from Portland this past week. Mrs. Wilbur Akers motored to Walla Walla last week and went on to Seattle with her son Ivan to attend a general church meeting there, Ivan returned t lone with Mrs. Akers on Mon- dav for an ovprnipht visit. Don McClure of Heppner will be the life guard at the lone swimming pool during the ab sence of Joe Hausler for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Engleman and Frank went to Hardman on Sunday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel, on the occasion of Mrs. Engleman's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Adon Hamlett and family of Fruitland, Idaho visited over the week-end with her mother, Mary Swanson and Mr. and Mrs. Garland Swanson and family and other relatives and friends. Their son Richard remained for a longer visit with the Swansons. Mrs. Roy W, Lindstrom, Steve and Susan motored to Portland on Friday to bring their uncle Byron Goodall of San Francisco to lone for a few days visit. On Monday they took Mr. Goodall to Pasco where he will go on to Washington points to visit other tnends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Haugcn and three daughters of Lake Os wego visited here last week with her mother, Mrs. Fannie Grif fith and with Mr. and Mrs. Rov Lindstrom and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Morgan and family of Shelton, Wn visited for a few days recently with his grandmother, Mrs. Ida Grabil, Mrs. Hazel Wiles and Mr. and Mrs. Edison Morgan and other relatives and friends. Gene Grabil returned to Shel ton, Wn. with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Morgan to spend his vacation time, Mr, and Mrs. Jerry Bristow and son of Tillamook are visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. hdmond Bristow during harvest. Jerry will be employed at the Kay tieimbigner ranch during harvest. Mrs. Edythe White and Dale and Lewis Williams were called to Goldendale, Wn., recently for the funeral of Jess Wherrv. Mrs. White returned to Portland with relatives to attend the wedding of a niece. Assisting Mrs. Crabtree were Louise Pointer of Lexington and miss bandra Eubanks at the gift Gordon White's father, Oscar annier, passed away. Hauslers Honored On Anniversary Mr. una mrs. joe iiausier were honored at their home on Junp 30 for their wedding anniversary. Many friends were on hand to extend their congratulations. Also assisting were Linda Halvorsen and Kathy Rea. Approximately fifty friends and relatives from the Ione, Lex ington and Heppner area attend ed, with many gifts sent by those unable to attend. Mrs. Kenneth Palmer, mother of the honoree, presided at the coffee table and Mrs. Leo Crab tree, mother of the groom, served the punch.
