July it 1962 Cleaner Owners Schedule Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Bill Collins, own ers of Heppner cleaners, will be on vacation for two weeks, from July 15 through 29, and no cleaning work will be done in their plant during that time, they announce. They will accept cleaning work through Thursday, July 12, to be completed by Saturday, July 14. Someone will be at the plant from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on work ing days while they are gone so that customers may pick up clothes that have been cleaned. Mr. and Mrs. Collins plan to spend their vacation in the west ern part of the state. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Matteson vacationed for 10 days recently in the Willamette valley and visited their daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Parks, Lebanon. McRogents, aerograph er's mate third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. 0. A. Devin of Heppner, serving aboard the at tack aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea, recently helped to make life for the Chinese refugees stream ing into Hong Kong a little more pleasant. During a recent visit to the British colony the crew of the mighty carrier and members of various detachments aboard do nated blood to the British Red Cross to be used by needy ref ugees. In addition money was collected with which to buy food for them. The Hong Kong assistance marked the second time in past weeks that men aboard the ship had answered the call for help. While in Kobe, Japan, the crew also gave blood to help victims of a recent train disaster near Tokyo. The 63,000-ton carrier is pres ently operating in the South China Sea as a unit of the Sev enth Fleet. She is scheduled to return to the U. S. in July. Reports To Nevada Base Following Leave Lieut. James D. Monohan, son nf Mr and Mrs. James Monohan of Heppner, left June 29 follow- inc a ten-day leave at me nome of his parents. Lieut. Monohan grauu area from the weapons control di vision at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida just before coming home. He will be in training at Stead Air Force Base in Nev ada, instructing in the weapons control department, upon his re turn to duty. On his way to re port he will visit briefly with his brother, Michael Monohan, now in training with the navy at Treasure Island, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Abrams and family visited in Fossil last week. PH. 676-9157 HEPPNER Holiday Events Occupy Lexington Folk On Fourth By DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Larson of Everett, Wn visited last week at the C. C. Jones home. The junior high Sunday school class enjoyed an evening of fun at lone on Monday night, at which time they swam and had refreshments. Those going were Kenneth Jones, Billy Klinger, Mike Padberg, Jeanette Led better, Theresa Munkers, Joyce Peck, and the teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Carl M. Marquardt. Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Led better entertained with a barbe cue on the Fourth of July. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Campbell and children and Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Jones and Ken neth. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Padberg and children and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hunt and children spent the Fourth at Lehman Springs at the Padberg cabin. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Campbell spent several days this week on a camping trip.. The children visited their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bloodsworth in Hermiston. Dean Hunt and E. E. Peck drove to Cove Saturday to get their children who had been spending some time at the Christian church summer camp there. Attend Salem Star Meeting Mrs. Dean Hunt returned Sun day night from Albany where she and Joan Hughes of Hepp ner visited Miss Joan Patrick and attended the constituting of a new Eastern Star Chapter in Salem on Sunday before return ing home. Mrs. Pat Sawyer and children have spent the week with her mother, Mrs. Florence McMillan. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bongers and children of Prineville spent several days last week visiting at the Mervin Leonard home in Lex ington. Mr. Bongers was former manager of Pioneer Memorial hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Eskelson of Ogden, Utah spent one day last week at the Johnnie Led better home. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Van Winkle and June Ledbetter are visiting at the Alfred VanWinkle home in Spokane. Mrs. William J. VanWinkle and son Donnie spent last week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Lowry in Mt. Vernon. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hunt and son returned home after a few days in Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Morey are visiting her mother, Mrs. Bert Peck this week. Mrs. Lola Breeding and grand daughter Jean spent the Fourth of July visiting relatives in Fos sil and Spray. Mrs. Lola Breeding accom panied Ed Livingston and grand daughters of Spray to Columbia Falls, Montana to visit Mrs. Liv ingston who is in a hospital in that city following surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Alderman and daughter, Dovie, are enjoy ing a three-week vacation in Vir ginia visiting his family. They will return this week-end.
