MELVIN DEAN CONNOR, whose marriage was solemnized Sunday, June 17, at the First Methodist church, Heppner. The bride is the former Miss Shirley Nash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash. (Photo by Lyons Studio) Couple Exchanges Vows In Ceremony June 17 Miss Shirley Nash, daufihtrr of Mr. and Mrs, Lincoln Nash, became the bride of Melvin Dean Connor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Connor, in an after noon ceremony Sunday, June 17, at the First Methodist church. The Rev. Melvin Dixon performed the double ring ceremony before a sotting of lavender slock, white chrysan t h e m u m s and baby breath in tall standards, flanked by tapers in candelabra. Altar vases held floral arrangements in lavender and white. Escorted on tne arm of her father, the bride was lovely in a white lace over satin ballerina length gown, fashioned with scoop neckline, three-quarter length sleeves and scalloped hemline. Her shoulder length veil fell from a lace and pearl head band and she carried a while orchid wilh green ivy on a pearl and lace covered while Bible. The Bible was a gift of Mrs. John Bergstrom. In the bride's shoe was a penny of (he year of her birth, and she wore a lavender garter made by Mrs. Bill Farra. She wore a single strand of pearls, a gift of the groom. The groom's accessories included a pair of pearl cuff links, a gill of the bride. Maid of honor was Miss Rose Nash, sister of the bride, and bridesmaid was Mrs. Lee Palmer, also sister of the bride. The honor attendants wore lavender bro cade satin sheaths wilh chiffon net overskirts and matching bended hats. They carried white lace fans with small lavender orchids. Nelson Connor was the groom's best man and Morgan ( minor was the attendant. Both are brothers of the groom. Ushers were Keith Connor, brother of the groom, and I.yle Jensen, brother of the bride, who also lighted the tapers before the ceremony. Soloist was Gordon Pratt and the organist was Mrs. Fred Gim bel. Mr. Pratt sang "Because" and "O' Perfect Love." For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Nash wore a while and beige-trimmed sheath dress with beige accessories. The reception was held in the church social rooms with floral arrangements on the bride's table and (he gift table carrying out the lavender and white theme. The four-tier wedding cake was while 'with lavender bells between the tiers, topped by three white satin bells and flanked by tapers in crystal candelabra holding small white and lavender chrysanthemums. After the bride and groom cut the first piece, the cake was served by Mrs. Waller Josewski, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Johnny Williams, sisler of the groom. Mrs. Elmer Springer, aunt of the bride, poured and Mrs. Hobert Campbell, aunt of the groom, served the punch. Assisting with the reception were Mrs. William Johnson, Mrs. F.arle Bryant, Mrs. Howard Bry ant, Mrs. Bill Farra and Theta St rat ton. At the gift table was Mrs. Lyle Jensen, sister-in-law of the bride, and Mrs. Ernest Drake, sister of the groom. Mrs. Wesley Marlalt look charge of the guest, hook. For traveling the bride chose an aqua embroidered sheath dress with while accessories and she wore her orchid from her bridal bouquet. The couple took a week's wedding trip to south ern California where t hey visited Disneyland, Knott's Berry farm and other places of interest. The couple is now at home in Heppner. The new Mrs. Con nor is employed at Peterson's Jewelers and the groom is em ployed with Kinzua Coip. Farms Attend 50th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Bill Farra at tended the 50th wedding anni versary of Mrs. Farra's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Wiest, in Sunnyside, Wn., Sunday, June 24' All 13 children, seven sons and six daughters, and their families were present for the gala oc casion. The children live in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, South Dakota, and Texas, and Arizona. They have 44 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Wiest were married December 19, 1912, at Wishek, N. D. and moved to Sunnyside, Wn., in 1939 where they engaged in farming oper ations. The reception was held during the summer so all the children could be present for the event. The lovely four-tier cake was made and decorated by their granddaughter, Mrs. G. Dockter, McLaughlin, S. D. It was white with golden decorations and had the years, 10, 20, 30, 40 on the steps of the cake with the 50th year decorated on the top. Flowers were used about the rooms and a gold coffee service was used at the reception. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gonty at tended the reception and brought Mr. and Mrs. Farra's son, Jim, home with them Sunday evening. The Farras remained until late Monday night. St. Monica's Holds Meeting Tuesday Members of the St. Monica's guild of the Episcopal church met Tuesday evening at the parish hall. Plans were made to serve the annual Soroptimist dinner at the parish hall Satur day night, June 30, 6:30 p.m. They discussed other matters of business and will adjourn until fall. MacKenzies Leave For Pastor School The Rev. and Mrs. Rod Mac Kenzie and family left Sunday for Denver, Colo., where he will attend LaForet pastor school through the month of July. Mrs. MacKenzie and the children will stay with his brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Bruce MacKenzie, and family at Denver while the lone pastor is attending school. During his absence, the pulpit of the lone Community church will be supplied by Floyd Emer son of Blalock who has been at tending Pacific School of Re ligion. The lone church Is now on summer schedule with Church School and morning worship be ing conducted concurrently at 9:30 each Sunday. This schedule will remain in ettect through beptember i. Lutherans To Have Picnic At Cutsforth Hope and Valby Lutheran churches will hold their annual church picnic this coming Sun day at Cutsforth Park. Instead of the usual Sunday school and worship at the church, families will gather at the park for wor ship at 11:00 a.m. Following the worship a potluck picnic dinner will be served. There will be organized games for the youngsters plus the tra ditional Softball and horseshoe games for adults. Hope and Valby are now on summer schedule which will continue through mid-September. Earl Soward, retired minister of Heppner Christian church, will preside in the pul pit at the Lexington Church of Christ Sunday, July 1, in the absence of Rev. Walter Smith. He just returned from Burley, Idaho, where he was supply pas tor for the past four months. He will speak on the topic, 'Peace On Whose Terms?" Mrs. Vernon Munkers will provide special music. Rev. bmith is attending youth camp at Cove and will be away until next week. Alcohol Discussion Scheduled Friday A panel discussion on alcohol ind its effects on social, personal and economic conditions will be Friday, June 29, at 8:00 p.m. in the Vert club room, Pendleton. The speakers on the program will be George Dimas, of Port land, executive director of the State of Oregon's Alcohol Edu cation committee; Dr. Martin Gish, director of the outpatient department of the Eastern Ore gon State hospital and president of the board of the Eastern Ore gon Alcoholism Foundation; Dr. rred Douglas, chief clinical psychologist at the Eastern Ore gon State hospital; and repre sentatives from Alcoholics Anon ymous and Al-Anons.
