The bathing beauty competition will be on the agenda Friday at the Continental Motel, 800 East Burnside, to be followed by a parade and final Judging Saturday, the latter being at the Sheraton-Plaza hotel. (Coles Studio) Program Completes Bible School Week IONE The week of vacation Bible school classes was climax ed with a program presented by the children and teachers on Friday evening at the lone Community church. Teresa Tucker of the upper junior class gave the Call to Worship. Mrs. Bill Rietmann showed a drawing of a slide projector, with different colors representing each class' donations during the week. The money goes into a fund to help purchase a slide pro jector for the church and church school use. She also made the announcement concerning the at tendance for the week and pre sented each teacher and their class. Teachers giving of 4heir time for the week included: Mrs. Joe Hausler assisted by Ruth Benson, Kathy and Betty Haus ler, helpers: Mrs. Nancy Ekstrom assisted by Mrs. Evelyn Krebs; Mrs. Dorothy Smith assisted by Linda Halvorsen and Jean Martin and Mrs. Fredrick Martin assisted by Rev. Rod MacKenzie. Mrs. Martin and Rev. Mac Kenzie presented a filmstrip, "Palestine in Jesus' Day," show ing the living conditions and ways of life then. It carried out the theme of the studies of the church school during the week. The program was concluded with group singing. Rev. The classes had on display all their projects they had made during the week. Many people gave freely of their time to enable the children and teachers to have a successful school. Parents showed much ap preciation for the fine work done. lone Lions Club to Install Officers At Social Affair Saturday Night By LORRAINE BALL IONE The lone Lions club will hold its annual installation of new officers and ladies night on Saturday, June 23, starting at 6:30 p. m. at the Heppner fair pavilion. Location of this affair had previously been set at the Hepp ner Legion hall, but due to prev ious committment, the place has been changed. Out-of-town guests are ex pected from clubs in The Dalles, Pendleton, La Grande, Milton- Freewater and Umatilla. Gene Rietmann's Combo will furnish music for the dance fol lowing dinner and installation. Visitors for a few days at the home of Mr, and Mrs, Gerald Rood this week were Mr, and Mrs; Marshall Mikesell and fam ily, Eau Claire, Wise. Mr, Rood and Mrs. Mikesell are brother and sister. While here they also visited Mrs. Millie Doolittle. Ensign and Mrs. Jim Hayes are driving from Pensacola, Fla., to his new base at Imperial Beach, Calif., near San Diego. He is a helicopter pilot and will undergo 16 more weeks of train ing at this base. Mr. ad Mrs. Harold Erwin and daughter, Shirley, visited Mrs, Erwin's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Morlnson In Hoquiam, Wn last week and all attended the World's Fair in Seattle. Tommy Melina of Hermiston held the winning raffle ticket for the TV set given away at the Legion Dance at lone on Saturday night. Door prize con sisting of a movie camera was won by Hank Pointer ot Lexing ton. The Lions announces that the drawing was a huge success with all tickets being sold, net ting them a profit of $730. Mrs. Marion Palmer and Mrs. Lee Palmer hosted the Home Ec onomics club at the Palmer mountain cabin on Thursday of last week. Pierce Family In Accident Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pierce and daughter were involved in car accident on bunday on their return trip to Redmond from lone. Wayne received a broken hand, slight cuts and abrasions and Kay was thought to have some broken ribs with slight cuts also. The baby was in shock for a few minutes, but was apparently all right. X-rays were to be taken on Monday of this week. They were tollowing the car of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Connor, newlyweds of Heppner, when a car towing a new car sideswiped the Pierce car near Shaniko. The Connor car was not involved in the accident, but took the Pierces on to Redmond. The Pierce car is believed to be a total wreck. Lee Hams of the U. S. Navy is spending a 10-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vester Hams. He has completed his basic training and expects to be shipped overseas in the near future, Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Morgan and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks attended the Mor gan reunion held at The Dalles during the week-end. Sandra Eubanks, Tass Mor rison, Bill Akers and Gary Mor gan returned home this week end following a week of activ ities at Girls' State and Boys' State In Salem arTd Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson and children and Sharon Crab tree took a trip to Seattle re cently for a tour of the World's Fair. Swimming Lessons Begun Joe Hausler, life guard and swimming instructor announces lessons will be held for beginners and advanced students, (.lasses will continue through next week and any one who wishes may have these lessons, i If you have a season ticket no charge will be made for the lessons. With out a ticket, a charge of 15c per lesson will be charged. Further information may be had liv calling Mr, Hausler, 422-7100 or by coming to the pool at 10:00 a.m. each morning except Mon day. Assignment to classes will be made then. They were here for the Townsend Portschy wedding. Mr. and Mrs, Carl Cropp and son Marvin visited in lone dur ing the week-end with relatives. They are soon to move from their home in Smelterville, Idaho, due to health reasons. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jansen nf Vancouver, Wn., have moved into one of his fathers houses on second street.
