Social Lites - - CALL 6-9228 or 6-9284 By JO PETTYJOHN ANOTHER WEEK gone by and the weather has warmed up considerably. Kids are going swimming, maybe fishing, and of course, playing in the every- evening baseball games, Time to hoe a weed or two out of the garden, visit the neighbors over the fence, and maybe, for moth ers, spend an afternoon of cards with friends. ooo FLO CONNOR entertained two tables of pinochle at her home Wednesday night. Jackie Allstott won high and Gail Burkenbine was low. Helen Olson won the door prize and Jeanne Berry, the pinochle prize. Jackie and Jeanne teamed up in the last progression to meld 1,000 aces and went on to make a 3100 score in that progression. Some score! Others playing were Ruby Munkers, Mary Ann Power, and Marg Eckman. ooo MEG MURRAY took high prize Friday night at the Nine Tricks bridge club get-together at the home of Rita Wolff. Karen Thompson won second high and Marian Jonasson was low. Also in on the play were Arolene Laird, Sue Jones, Marion Abrams, Betty Gimbel, and Rita. Rita served the gals a delicious choc olate refrigerator pie. She says it's made out of candy bars and is easy to prepare. Sounds like a good recipe for the paper, huh? THE RANDALL0 Martin home was the scene of the Past Noble Grands picnic Sunday. Members and their families enjoyed the sunny weather and potluck din ner at noon. The next meeting is set for June 24 at the John Bergstrom home. ooo TWO TABLES of bridge were in play Tuesday night with Betty Gimbel as hostess for the even ing. Jean Willamson was high, Laurel VanMarter, second; and Ramona Marshall, low. Also playing were Janet Agee, Patty Prock, Helen Sherman, Rita Wolff, and Harriet Hall. ooo REMEMBER THE charity dupli cate bridge play Sunday after noon at the grade school multi purpose room, starting at 2:00 p. m. This is also Master point play and is open to the public. ooo PEARL WRIGHT entertained the Friday afternoon pinochle club at her home with two tables in play. Mary Harris won high, Pearl took low, and Carrie Beck ett and Beulah Mankin paired to win the pinochle. Millie will host the group on Friday. ooo LAST WEEK was Meg Murray's week to play bridge as she walked off with two firsts, hav ing won Wednesday night at Renegers and Friday night at Nine Tricks! Wednesday night LaFryne Pratt was hostess for the group of 12 players. Janina Johnson won second and Laurel Van Marter had low. Other guests included Inez Meador, Louise Farley, Shirley Blake, Harriet Hall, Jean Williamson, Vi Lanham, and Karen Thomp son. Has Janina quit us pinochle players for bridge? ooo THE LAST ELKS Ladies Night until fall was played Thursday with the officers and wives hosting a potluck supper prior to the play. About 75 persons at tended the supper and 13 tables were in progress during the ev ening. Beverly Sherman won high in pinochle and Alta Cuts forth won second. Elsie Cole won high in bridge with Elaine George winning second. Mary Ann Power took home the door prize. ooo FLAG DAY services will be con ducted Thursday (tonight) at the Odd Fellows hall before the Elks meeting. The wives are in vited to attend and will play cards following the ceremony. ooo LORENA JONES hosted the Fidas and Fyoudas bridge club Wednesday night. She had good luck with her to win the top prize for the evening, and Elsie Cole won second. Others mak ing up the two tables of play were Florence Green, Alma Green, Winifred Cox, Beth Bry ant, Gladys Connor, and Rachel Dick. LaVERNE VAN MARTER ac companied Jim and Bobbe Dris coll to Hermiston Monday night for the Elks Master point play. LaVerne teamed up with Pete Hanigan, Hermiston, to win first place in the play. ooo THE ED DICKS entertained the duplicate bridge club last Sat urday night with Ed and Bert Huff wining high; Gordon Pratt and LaVerne Van Marter, sec ond; and Paul and Gladys Jones, third. They used the Howell movement which uses only first, second, and third placings rather than winners for each direction. Guests included the Lowell Grib bles, Dick Meadors, Conley Lan hams, Gordon Pratts, Bert Huffs,' LaVerne Van Marters, Dicks, and Jones. day... JEWELERS CHERYL McGHEE was surprised with a going away party at the Dee Jones home Monday night with Ann Jones as hos tess. Cheryl was presented gifts from the guests. They enjoyed games, a scavenger hunt, and refreshments during the evening. Guests were Carol Burkenbine, Rodney and Sharon Ayers, Steve Peck, Bob Hager, Mike Smith, and John Cleveland. ooo BOBBETTE JONES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jones, cele brated her seventh birthday last Wednesday afternoon with a group of friends in for a party. They played games and had a swan-shaped birthday cake for refreshments. Her little friends were Shelly and Kelly Wolff, Shannon Farley, Tricia Prock, Kathy McClure, Mary Abrams, Judy Pratt, Patty O'Harra, Marie Van Marter, and her brother, Steve. ooo STEVE JONES, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jones, also had a birthday party on May 29, mark ing his fourth birthday. He had as guests John Prock, Paul Van Marter, and Molly Pierce. They played during the afternoon and enjoyed a giraffe-shaped cake. ooo BARBARA SHERMAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Sher man, was seven years old Fri day and celebrated with a party during the afternoon. Her guests were Judith Bennett, Tami Mead or, Beverly Phegley, Shannon Farley, Judy Pratt, Kay Munk ers, Mary Abrams, Robin Nyman,, Becky Fulleton, Cindy Power, Linda Eckman, Tami Brannon, and Janice Spaulding. The youngsters played games and had cup cakes and ice cream. Worthy Patron, Matron Honored Harold Becket and Mrs. J. R. Huffman, worthy patron and worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, were honored by their officers following the regu lar business meeting Monday night. The officers presented an ad dendum honoring the two retir ing leaders and each was given gifts. Oliver Creswick sang dur ing the addendum. Refreshments were served at the close of the program with Mrs. Dean Hunt in charge. The next OES meeting is set for June 25 with the installation of officers which will conclude the meetings until fall. The in stallation ceremonies are open to the public and will follow the business meeting. Officers elected at a recent meeting are Mrs. Dean Hunt, worthy matron; Don Turner, worthy patron; Mrs. Lowell Grib ble, associate matron; Lowell Gribble, associate patron; Mrs. Floyd Worden, secretary; Mrs. Edna Turner, treasurer; Mrs. Charles Stout, conductress; and Mrs. Howard Bryant, associate conductress. Wright-Litchfield Wedding Set June 24 The wedding of Miss Janet Lee Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Wright, to Ralph V. Litchfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Litchfield of Newport, will be an event of Sunday, June 24. - Vows will be exchanged at 2:00 p. m. at the All Saints Episcopal church, with a reception follow ing in the parish hall. The couple invites friends and relatives to attend. Miss Wright graduated last month from the University of Oregon Medical School of Nurs ing in Portland and is now em ployed in the Veteran's hospital in Portland. Mr. Litchfield is studying for his doctor's degree at the University of Oregon Medical School, after graduating in 1960 from Willamette Univer sity in Salem. Guests At Nash Home For Wedding Sunday Guests this weeh at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash are Mrs. Nash's sister and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Josewski and son, Jerome, and her brother, Vincent Nogowski, all of Forman, North Dakota. The visitors will be here until after the wedding Sunday of Miss Shirley Nash and Melvin Con nor. The ceremony will be at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church and all relatives and friends are extended an invitation to attend, with a reception following in the church social rooms. Awards To Be Made At Cow Belle Meeting The annual summer meeting of the Morrow county Cow Belles association is planned for Wed nesday, June 20, at the home of Mrs. Wavel Wilkinson. A pot luck luncheon will start the meeting at 12 o'clock. Recognition of Marcel Jones as Morrow county Father of the Year for 1962 will be given. The annual award will be presented him for his outstanding service with and for youth organizations, as judged by 4-H and other youth clubs. The association will also rec ognize and present a beef prize to the father who has had a child born on Father's Day, or the closest day to it. Tibbies, and Mrs. Dick Wilkin son attended the week long ses sion of the Eastern Star Grand Chapter of Oregon last week in Portland. Mrs. Walter Jaeger, Condon, was installed worthy grand matron during the convention. Joining the Heppner group Wednesday and Thursday were Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Creswick, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jones, Mrs. C. C. Carmichael, Dick Wilkinson and Pam Cochell. : Mrs. Carmichael was install ing grand organist and Creswick sang, "I'll Walk With God," dur ing the installation ceremonies. The meetings ended Thursday evening with the installation of officers. A lavender and white color theme was carried out with lavender iris on the serving table and lavender candles on white lace table cloth.
