Many of the lodges, clubs, and other organi nations win noia their picnics uunng tne summer. Most pop ular place is Cutsforth Park which is scheduled far in ad vance, now if the weather will .lust cooperate! ooo I WONDER if the annual birth day party of the All Saints' Episcopal church hit an all-time record ot 2is tables of bridge and pinochle in play last Saturday afternoon? The chairmen, really uiu a ioD in inline the tables This event is the anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone atter the 1903 flood. The birth- day theme was carried out with a cake door prize, and towels and washcloths wrapped as cakes for the high and low prizes. They served a delicious pineapple fluff dessert. Bebe Munkers won high in ormge and Gene Case was low. Ruth Van Winkle won high in pinochle and Margaret Du buque received the low prize. The door prize went to Mrs. Hillard Brown. Hostesses were Ruth Cleveland, Happy Graham, Marie Mcyuarne, Helen Schaffitz, Vir ginia Rosewall, Hazel Mahoney, Mary Ellen Myers, Bonnie Bar ratt, and Sue Valentine. ooo THE FRED Gimbels entertained with a dinner Friday for Vic and Doreen Kreimeyer, Portland, and Raymond and Jean William son. The Kreimeyers were va cationing here from their home in Portland. ooo THREE COUPLES journeyed to Hermiston Sunday for an af ternoon of duplicate bridge play. Going were LaVerne and Laurel Van Marter, Jim and Bobbe Dris coll, Bill and Daisy Collins. Bobbe and Daisy won high north south and LaVerne and Gus Hartzheim, Hermiston, won third north-south at the monthly unit party. 0 0 0 HEPPNER WILL host the Unit Charity card party at the grade school multipurpose room Sun day, June 17. All units belonging to the American Contract Bridge league sponsor once a year a party to raise money which Is sent to the league. In turn it donates it to worthy charities. Anyone may join this afternoon of duplicate bridge play start ing at 2:00 p. m. Winners will be entitled to master points, ooo ASK BILL and Shirley Blake and other senior parents on chaper oning some 42 high school grad uates. More fun! Shirley said they lasted until 5:00 a. m. when the party broke up. Their home was the scene of a party after graduation Tuesday night for an all night gathering. The students en.ioyed dancing and always eat ing! hall June 14. The ladies are in vited for the ceremonies and will play cards while the men at tend the meeting. ooo A REAL cowboy breakfast with Bob and Pat Brindle as hosts closed out the Mothers' club ac tivities for the year. The break fast was held Saturday morn ing, 8:00 a. m. at the Brindle ranch with members and their husbands enjoying a hearty breakfast of ham, hash brown potatoes, egg. sourdough bis cuits, fresh rhubarb sauce, and coffee. Special guests were the Vic Kreimeyers. Meetings will resume in the fall. ooo MR. AND MRS. Walter Beckett celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary at their home Sun day with a family dinner. Guests were her sisters, Julie Glaesmer and Flora DesGeorge, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Beckett, Molly and Ronnie; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Buschke, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Buschke and Brett: Mr. and Mrs, Bob Buschke and Brian, and Esther Bergstrom. ooo SUNDAY EVENING the Gordon Hutchens entertained with three tables of duplicate bridge, Terry Thompson and Gordon won high north-south. Owen huii and Phyllis Hutchens were high east -west. 0 0 0 I WROTE about this recipe re cently used at a shower tor Marian Abrams, called Pink Ice Cream Pie. It comes to me from Mrs. N. C. (Esther) Anderson who tells me she got it out of a magazine. She says it is not hard to make, but to me it seems ratner iascinaung 10 bake ice cream. Fink Ice Cream Pie Color pie doueh with food col orine for a pink shade, bake in 9 inch pie tin and let cool. Fill cooled shell with layer of sliced strawberries, layer ot vanilla or strawberry ice cream, and laver of sliced strawberries Place in freezer overnight. Before serving make egg white meringue spread on top and bake pie in a 400 degree oven until meringue is brown or about 10 mintues. Happy eating! Some of the group left in the morning for fun at Lehman Springs. Others chapero n i n g were the Ed Dicks, Ralph Rich monds, Wilbur Van Bloklands, and Mrs. William Sampson. Other parents helped with furnishing the food for the party. 0 0 0 REMEMBER THE Elks Flag Day ceremonies at the Odd Fellows Cochell Engagement Is Announced Here Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wilkinson announce the engagement oi their daughter, Judith Ann Co chell, to Richard E. Paine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Paine of Aloha. Miss Cochell is a student at Columbia Basin college, Pasco, Wn. Mr. Paine is serving with the 101st Airborne Division, station ed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. A July wedding is being planned. Mrs. Frank Connor took her mother, Mrs. T. W. Rippee, to her home in Echo on Sunday after a few days visit here. Also visiting the Connor home on Memorial Day were their son and family. Mr. and Mrs. Skip Con nor, Pilot Rock, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rippee, Condon, brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Connor. Barbara Hutchins And Larry Angel I Married Friday Barbara Hutchins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hutchins of Heppner and Larry Angell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Angell, Port land, exchanged wedding vows at a quiet family ceremony Fri day at 7:00 p. m. at All Saints' Episcopal church. Father C. Bruce Spencer performed the single ring ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a blue cotton street-length dress with three- uarter length sleeves. White accessories accented her aress and she carried a white Bible with a white rose. Sharon Davis, Heppner, was maid of honor and wore a white dress with a pink carnation cor sage. Lynn Sawyer, Heppner, niece of the bride, was brides maid and wore a lavender suit nth a pink rosebud corsage. Best man was Marion Biddle, Heppner. A reception was held In the parish hall following the cer emony. The pink and white color theme was carried out with pink gladioluses and baskets of blue iris about the rooms. Mrs. Frank Hamlin cut and served the 3-tiered pink and white dec orated wedding cake. Pat Ma rion poured the punch and Fran Heath poured the coffee. lhe bride has completed her junior vear at heppner High school, and the groom grad uated from David Douglas High school in Portland in 1961. He employed at the box factory located at the Kinzua corpor ation mill. After a short wedding trip to Prineville the young couple are home in Heppner. Out-of-town guests included the groom's parents, Mr. and Jim Angell, Portland, and bride's sister and brother- -law, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mc- Daniel, Baker. HEPPKEH PH. 676-9200 Many lone Friends Honor Bride-Elect At Pre-nuptial Party IONE Brenda Townsend, aughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hershal Townsend, lone, bride-elect of George Portschy of Pendleton, honored at a bridal shower n the social hall of the lone Community church on May 28 in evening. Assisting Miss Townsend with the many lovely useful gifts were her sister, Townsend, Miss Sandy Zach of Moro, and Miss Linda Halvorsen. Pouring at the refreshment table were Mrs. Hershal Town send and Mrs. Paul Portschy of Pendleton. The table was cen tered with an arrangement of purple iris and lavender lupine flanked with purple candles and lovely white cake decorated with purple orchids. Arrange ments of purple, yellow and white iris were placed about the room. Sixty-seven friends signed the guest book while 21 friends sent gifts.
