HEPPNER GAZETTE - Piano Students Heard In O'Harra Home Recital By DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON Sunday, June 3, at 2:30 p. m., Mrs. Newt O'Harra's piano class presented a recital at the O'Harra home in Lex ington. The students taking part this year were: Gary Kemp, Mary Kay Hughes, Craig Munkers, Tana Rauch, Kristen Nelson, Gary Huber, Jill Pad berg, Jeaiiine Hunt, Christine Munkers, Janet I'almateer, C h e r i 1 y n Smouse, Maryanna Huber and Arleta McCabe. Mrs. O'Harra re ceived many beautiful and use gifts of appreciation. The mothers served refreshments to about 3G people. The home was decorated in lovely arrangements of spring flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mounts of Maupin were week-end guests with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Majeske. Their son Steven remained here tor an extended visit. Marie Belle Yocom, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yocom, Is a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital. Mrs. Bertha Hunt and Mrs. Florence McMillan were Pendle ton visitors on Sunday. Mrs. Mc Millan spent the day at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pat Sawyer, and Mrs. Hunt with her daughter, Mrs. Morris McCarl, who is a patient in St. Anthony's hospital. McCarls Greet Baby Boy Mr. and Mrs. Morris McCarl are the proud parents of a baby boy born last week at Pioneer Memorial hospital. He weighed !) pounds 11 ounces and is named Melvin Lee. He joins two sisters at home. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall were Bend visitors over tlie week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Armin Wihlon visited in Redmond over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Cutsforth and children visited at the John Uenslinger home over the week end. Thornburqs Move To Pendleton Mr. and Mrs. I'ine Thornhurg and family are moving this week to Pendleton where they will make their home. Mrs. June Davidson and fam ily have moved to the Carl Mar (uanll ranch for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. R K. Peck were in Pendleton on Monday. Mrs. Knuna Peck and Miss Ktta Millett were week-end vis itors in Lexington. Mrs. Maude Pointer of Corval lis was a guest this past week a I the home of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs, Don Pointer. While here she attended the commence ment exercises of the lone High school, where her grandson, Tom, received his diploma. Mrs. Gene Majeske and daugh ters and Mrs. t . ( . Breeding visited at the home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs, Neil Jones in Carlton last week. Jimniie, Jeanne and Jack Grant returned home with them for a visit. Mr. and Mrs, Claire Marvel and children of The Dalles were guests at the home of her mother .mil family, Mrs. Pearl Green on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Sleagall visited friends in Kinua Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Sleagall and children motored to Spray on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Vem Leathers have taken over operation of the Conner Lexington Pastime tavern, formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Kc-nneth Kllnger. II will now be known as the V and G Tavern. June 7, 1962 Mr. and Mrs. Claude Way of Wagontire and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Way and family of Van couver, Wn., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Way. Also here for the day Sun day were Mr. and Mrs. Asa Way of California. Mrs. Ira Fdgerton of Cranston, R. L, and Miss Vicky Schoonover of Oregon City are spending sev eral days at the home of Mrs. Edgerto'n's mother, Mrs. June Davidson. Mrs. Nancy Jakeway, Mrs. Lu cille Wells and Mrs. Sandy Mont gomery, all of San Francisco, arrived Sunday for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hunt. Mrs. Jakeway and Mrs. Wells are sis ters of Mrs. Hunt. The three women are enroute to Anchorage, Alaska, where they will be em ployed. Mr. and Mrs. Hunt took a trip to Post in Crook county over the week-end and returned before the California visitors ar rived. Flying in at the Lexington air port' Friday was Harold Jameson of Condon, and Dale Osdale flew in Monday. Last Thursday a rep resentative of the Foster Blowers Corp. of Madras arrived at the airport on a business trip. Sewing Club Practices Fair Demonstrations The Country Cutters 4-II cloth ing club met at the home of Kristine Peterson Saturday after noon, May 19. We practiced giving demon strations for the fair. After the demonstrations we drew num bers for the order in which we will attend 4-11 camp. We also had a lesson on judging clothing classes. After the meeting Kristine served refreshments. The next meeting will be in August at Molly Beckett's home. Sandra Carlson, reporter Memorial Day Guests At Thompson Home Memorial Day was an occasion for several out-of-town visitors calling at the home of Mrs. It. A. Thompson. Among them were Wallace Esty and two sons Mickey and Lynn of Pot latch. Idaho, and Mrs. Thompson's daughter, Mrs. Herman Finch -teniehl of Lewiston, Idaho. The Esty boys will spend the suniniet at the Kenneth ('ulsl'orlli ranch. Coming from Portland were Mrs. Minnie Vaughn and M Mrs. Scott Brown. Mr. a',. Pendleton Services Held By MARY LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Funeral services were held in Pendleton Friday for William W. Hartle, Umatilla County pioneer, who died at St. Anthony's hospital May 29 after an illness of three months. He had celebrated his 89th birthday just two weeks before at the hospital. He was born May 12, 1873 near Millerville in Cape Girardeau County, Mo., the son of Peter and Leana Hartle. He was the last survivor of 11 children. He came to Oregon in 189H, and had lived here since. Married to Edith Chapman in Pendleton May 6, 1906, he farmed in Juniper Canyon north of Pen dleton for more than 30 years, leaving there in 1933. For the past two years he had made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fr a n k Marlow, in Boardman. Other survivors include a son, Harold of Pendleton; two daughters, Mrs. Lafe (Verlic) Smith of Wei ser, Idaho; Mrs. Clarence (Zelda) Thomas of Riggins, Idaho; six grandchildren, four great-grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Folsom's were in charge of the funeral, with Rev. Herman Burg, pastor of the Boardman Commu nity church, conducting the ser vices. Pall bearers were Luther Hartle, Woodrow Hartle, Chester Bittner, Darrell Marlow, all of Pendleton; Dean Knudson of Weston, and Harold Marlow of Talent. Burial was in Olney Cem etery. Attending the funeral from r" - ' i ry ' ' l' " " Boardman were Mrs. Claud Coats, Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, Mrs. Cecil Hamilton, Mrs. Glen Carpenter, Mrs. Zearl Gillespie and Mrs. Lowell Shattuck. Jody Tatone, ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tatone, was seriously injured Saturday in an accident on his father's farm east of town, and is in the Good Shep herd hospital in Hermiston suf fering with a crushed hip. Furth er injuries have not yet been de termined. Farewell Given For Skoubos About sixty persons attended the farewell picnic given in the city park last week for Mr. and Mrs. Edward Skoubo and child ren David and Janell, who have moved to Corvallis to live. They were presented with a gift by Mrs. Gunnar Skoubo. Present from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Chub Warren of Pendleton, Mrs. Russell DeJVTauro and daughters of Umatilla and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith of Union, Mrs. Robert Wilson of The Dalles and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Clark of Pendleton. Mrs. Ed Boothman entertained with a card party at her home Saturday night, with four tables of pinochle in play. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Jorgenson of Irrigon, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Crews, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Seehafer, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bedord and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Donovan. High scores were won by Donovan and Mrs. Jorgenson, and low went to Mr. and Mrs. Bedord. The pinochle prizes were won by Mrs. Crews and Seehafer. Mr. and Mrs. Don Downey went to Seattle, Wash, over the week-end to visit Downey's fath er, Earl Downey, who is in a sanitarium there. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thornhill and daughters Aria and Tina attended the graduation exer cises at Wy-East school last week, where Thornhill's niece, Phyllis Jean Thornhill, was among the graduates. The Thorn hill's left Saturday on a ten-day vacation trip to Prineville and Delake. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Marlow and daughter Anita of Tal e n t visited three days at the home of Marlow's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marlow, being called here by the death of Mrs. Marlow's father, W. W. Hartle. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith of Union visited two days at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe. Garden Club Sets Show The Boardman Garden club will hold a flower show Satur day, June 9, at the home of Mrs. Glen Carpenter from one to five p. m. Mrs. Happy Graham, Mrs. L. D. Tibbies, and Mrs. Wavel Wilk inson attended the Daughters of the Nile ceremonies in Pendle ton May 26. Mrs. Hortense Martin, Port land, is visiting this week with family and friends. She plans to return to her home this weekend.
