Last day of schooL Mrs. Robert Abrams Honored At Shower Mrs. Robert Abrams was guest of honor at a shower at the home of Mrs. Rod Murray Thursday night. Co-host with Mrs. Murray was Mrs. Nels Anderson. The gift table was decorated with a stork and the lovely ar ray of gifts. Assisting Mrs. Ab rams with the gifts was Mrs. Claude Graham. Guests enjoyed games and later were served pink ice cream pie and coffee. Present for the occasion were Mrs. Andy Van Schoiack, Mrs. W. H. Wolff, Mrs. Bobby Jones, Mrs. Terry Thomp son, Mrs. Ray Smith, Mrs. Roice Fulletin, Mrs. Bruce Spencer, Mrs. LaVerne Van Marter, Mrs. Bill Siewert, Mrs. Ray William son, and Mrs. Abrams' mother, Mrs. Sara Morrow. Club Makes Trip To Be Dinner Guests In F. Parker Home Several members of the Rhea Creek Grange Home Economics club accompanied by some of the husbands, were guests in the home of a former charter grange member, Mrs. Frank Parker, in Walla Walla, Wn., last Thursday, May 17. Assisted by two sisters who live nearby, Mrs. Parker was hostess to a pet-luck dinner at noon. Helping her were Mrs. Mary Davis and Mrs. Inez Loney. Guests from here were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Drak.?, Mr. and Mis. Orrin Wright, Mr. and Mrs. John Bergstrom, Mrs. Ray Wright, Miss Merilyn Bergstrom, Mr. and Mrs, L. R. Babb, Mrs. Elmer Palmer, Mrs, Evelyn Farrens, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Anderson, Mrs. Bill Bergstrom and Mrs. Harold Wright. Miss Carol K. Anderson was met at the Pendleton airport by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Anderson, when she came home by plane for Mother's Day week end from her studies at Oregon State University. The Andersons took her back on Sunday, stop ping in Portland for visits with two daughters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Al Parent and Mrs. Dee Martin. Bill Irby. with the Air Force, and Roy Hughes, with the Navy, left Tuesday for their stations in California after a week's stay with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Irby and Mr. and Mrs. Llwyn Hughes. The youngsters are anxiously count ing the days and all the free, free time to loaf, dream, or play baseball, and just maybe go fishin'. Summer is a good fun time for the whole family, so slow down and enjoy it with the kids. ooo JUST A few clubs and parties this week as more clubs ad journ for the summer. Three en thusiastic bridge-type players Journeyed to Hermiston again Monday night and came home with more laurels. Fellows, you keep that up and they may not invite vou all back again! Going were Jim Driscoll, LaVerne Van Marter, and Bill Blake. Bill and Jim teamed up to win HIGH north-south, and LaVerne played with Bill Ward, Echo, to take second place, east-west. Bill says I must put the "high" in big type, guess it's his first time! He further states he will snow LaVerne the finer points of the game now. ooo REMEMBER THE public spring flower show sponsored by Sew Alongs, 4-H club and the Kool Kooks, 4-H club will serve tea in the afternoon at the Heppner Ford showroom. Anyone may enter their flowers and they will be judged and awarded rib bons for first three placing. Look in your yard and decide on your prettiest varieties for the show! ooo CARRIE BECKET won high Fri day afternoon when the club met at the home of Doris Wat kins. Also in the win column was Ann Fehmerling, Portland, low. Gladys Beckett and Pearl Wright won the pinochle. Others in on the play were Millie Evans, Fva Miller. Lexington ana Beulah Mankin. Mrs. Fehmer ling is a sister of Mrs. Evans, ooo TWO BOYS missed just the 'most" imDortant event of their lives last Saturday because of a "bug." Home on the sick list were Mark Brown and Mike Pierce and the big event was the eighth grade banquet and dance. Sorry you had to miss it, fellows. ooo PHYLLIS HUTCHENS entertain ed the Fidas and Fyudas bridge club at her home Wednes day evening. She said the scores we're terrific with high going to Lorena Jones, having a score of 8,550 for six progressions! Every one held good cards and second high went to Alma Green. Also in on the play were Florence Green, Rachel Dick, Gladys Con nor, Winifred Cox, Elsie Cole, and Beth Bryant. ooo BILL BLAKE stopped me Mon day to make sure I made a cor rection in the column this week ohnnt who won third at the Elks duplicate play! Jackie Glen nie won second high, and Helen Olson won the pinochle. Others playing were Gail Jonnson, Marg Eckman, Mary Ann Palmer, and Flo Connor. The gals get together for play twice each month. ooo LEGION AUXILIARY members are sponsoring a DaKe sale Tuesday, May 29, at the Heppner Red and White. The boys met at the Van Marter home then proceeded on the hunt, finding treasures for every one along the way to the court house lawn. Mrs. Van Marter served the boys hamburgers with Cokes, chips and cake. Guests included Tommy Cleve land, Ken Baker, Terry Hughes, David Gunderson, Jim Healy, Keith Curnutt, Steven Hutchens, Johnny Johnson, Ronnie Flug, Billy Wolff, Delbert McLachlan, Kevin Dick, John Hall, Brian Hughes, Kelly Green, Robbie Abrams, Rodney Whitesmith, Joe Wilhelm, and Bill Greenup. ooo ALL THE eighth grade girls were dressed very attractively for their party, but just had to give up finally and take off their shoes during the dance! Don't we all feel like it at times? ooo WHAT'S TRUMP club members closed out their bridge play until fall with a payoff luncheon and play Wednesday afternoon. The highs hosted the lows with a creamed chicken salad and frozen dessert luncheon. The highs were Gena Leonard, Vir ginia Rosewall, Lota Tibbies, Hazel Mahoney, and Fay Fer guson. The low's included Madge Thomson, Helen Schaffitz, Happy Graham, Margaret Blake, and Dee Gribble. Happy won high and Madge was second for the afternoon's play. ooo TAMI MEADOR, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Meador, enter tained little guests with a lunch eon celebrating her seventh birthday Saturday. Following the luncheon the girls played games, sang songs, and received favors and balloons. Tami's friends were Tracy Norene, Judy Pratt, Ann Burkenbine, Shannon Farley, Janet Gentry, Judith Bennett, Barbara Sherman, Marie Van Marter, and her sister, Les lie Fay. HIGH SCHOOL freshman girls, Fran McLeod, Barbara Blake, Joan Siewert, and Judy Smith, organized a dancing party Sat urday night at the McLeod home with 40 high school friends at tending. The guests enjoyed an evening of dancing and their fav orite snacks. 0 0 0 THE RECIPE comes to me this week from Mrs. Matt (Joan) Hughes. She said she had had HEPPNER GAZETTE -TIMES, Thursday, May 24, 1962 many reauests for it since kp ing the tasty treat at a shower recently. Frosted Pineapple Squares cup sugar 3 T cornstarch 4 t. salt 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten 1 can (1 lb. 14 oz.) pineapple chunks, undrained 23 cup milk 1 t. sugar 1 pkg. dry yeast '4 cup very warm water 4 egg yolks, lightly beaten 4 cups sifted flour 1 cup margarine Mix Vi cup sugar, cornstarch, and salt In nun. stir in mm vr.lL, and pineapple chunks, cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until tnicK and smooth, about 7 min., cool while preparing dough. Scald milk, add 1 t. sugar, cool to lukewarm; dissolve yeast in very warm water, add to milk mixture, stir in beaten egg yolks. Put flour in large bowl, cut in margarine until it re sembles course meal, stir in yeast and milk mixture, blend thoroughly, dough will be soft and moist, divide into half. Roll half out to about 16 x 10 inches, spread with cooled pineapple filling, roll remaining dough large enough to cover filliner. seal edges, slit top of dough to let steam escape, cover, let rise about an hour, or double in size, bake in 375 degree oven for 35 toi 40 minutes. Frost with con fectioners' sugar icing, serve warm.
