HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, May 24, 1962 Chats With Your Home Agent Homemaker Festival Proves Big Success By ESTHER KIRMIS "Many people question the In fluence of just one person," stated Mrs. Roberta Fraiser, OSU family life specialist, "but look at Miller, Castro, or Jesus Christ." Mrs. Fraiser appeared before 100 Morrow county women at their annual Ilomeinaker's Festival held in Hie St. Patrick's parish hall in lleppner on May 15. Developing tier talk along the theme, "A Look at Me," the specialist challenged the women on living up to their potential. A woman's influence on her hus band and children Is tremendous. She communicates to her family with words, with her body (voice and touch), and things she does for her family. These communi cations are not always under stood as "love," however, she went on to say. "If we would all do more listening instead of talking re ceiving instead of sending, what better parents we would be," contended the specialist. The luncheon-type festival opened at 11:00 a. m, with regis tration and viewing of exhibits displayed by the seven units. A "hobby room" was a new feature thoroughly enjoyed this year. Mrs. Warren McCoy, Irrigon, county advisory committee chairman, acted as mistress of ceremonies. Mrs. L. D. Vinson, Kimboriy, District VIII director, installed all the new unit officers and county committee women at a candlelight ceremony just be fore the luncheon, served by the St. Patricks Altar society. Women were sealed by their birthdays at tables beautifully decorated to depict the month, lleppner High school home ec onomics sludonls served and pro vided child care. County committee women Mrs. John (haves, lleppner; Mrs. Weldon Wilherrile, Kclio; and Mrs. Karl Biiggs, Boardman, re ported on the new home ec onomics program for 1903, the Oregon state homemaker's coun cil in Corvallis in May, and "thank-you's" for the day. Special music was furnished by Martha Peck and the llepp ner High school choir. Mrs. Nor man Nelson, Lexington, and Mrs. K. M. linker, lone, led the com munity singing. Exhibits of the pat yeac's home economics program were set up in the side rooms of the hall as follows: "Wardrobe Building" Board man unit (Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, chairma n). "Shortcuts to Housekeeping" lleppner unit (Mrs. Joe Wright, chairman I. "Understanding Teenagers" MRS. ROBERTA FRASIER one unit (Mrs. Elmer Holtz, chairman). "Red Hat Days" Rhea Creek unit (Mis. Robert Bergstrom, chairman). "Cheese Cookery" Irrigon unit (Mrs. Richard Ryan, chair man). "Magic with Mixes" Lena unit (Mrs. Robert Riddle, chair man). "Rural Defense" Pine City unit (Mrs. George Luciani, chair man). Displays were also made up for "Bedroom and Bathroom Storage," "Ways with Western Vegetables" and 4-II club work. Pennies for friendship, com memorative stamps, and Lady Aberdeen scholarship funds were gathered at the festival to pro mole the work of the Assoc iated Country Women of the World (ACWW). Oregon home extension units are affiliated with this national organization of good will. Betty Crocker coupons were also submitted to Azalea House, a student's coop erative house on the OSU cam pus! Corvallis, sponsored by the Oregon Home Extension units.) A good speaker, good food, and warm friendly people made it a grand day. With that combina tion, it had to be a success.
