HEPPNER GAZETTE Postal Officials Aftend World's Fair Ceremonies Bv MARY LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Mrs. Flossie Coats, postmaster, and Mrs. Flor ence Root left Sunday for Twenty Miracle Miles on the coast to attend the state convention of the National League ot Tost masters, Oregon Branch, with headquarters at Surftides. Last week Mrs. Coats and Mrs. Root accompanied Cella Norton, Mitchell postmaster, and Bea ScoKgins, Arlington postmaster, to Seattle, Wn.t where they at tended the dedication of the Century 21 post office at the World's Fair, and the presen tation of the Space Needle com memorative 4-cent stamp by the 1'ostmasler General J. Edward Day at a noon luncheon at the Olympic Hotel. Make Convention Plans Mrs. James Harper was hostess for the Tillicum Club at her home last week. Plans were made to attend the state con vention of the Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs In Portland May H-10. Reports were made on the Easter Egg hunt, and the Mor row County Fair court princess sponsored by the club, who is Irene Potts. There will be just one meet ing of the club this month, which will be May 15 at the home of Mrs. Vernon Russell. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Trotter of Yakima, Wn., visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Deits last week on their way home from Portland. Mrs. Glen Carpenter has re turned home from a two weeks trip to Lomond, Alta., Canada, where she visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hurst Gold thorpe, and numerous relatives and other friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Black and d lUgliler Diane were in Portland for three days where Black at ti nded a slate membership com mittee meeting of the OEA. Mrs. Earl Briggs and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Edith Reed, vis iting from Boise, Idaho, attend ed a county committee meeting of the extension unit at Lexing ton last week at the home of Mrs. Edward Baker. Visitors last week at the Briggs home were Mr. and Mrs. O. II. Street of Tualatin, and George Reed of Boise, who came to take Mrs. Reed home. Ed Boolhman was railed to Okanogan, Wn., last Thursday by the death of his brother-in-law, Virgil Profit, 50, who died April 2!j. The funeral was held Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Watts and daughter Tamera spent sev eral days visiting their sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Watts and Mr. and Mrs. Myron Watts, Jr., and the sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Robert Monroe and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Daniels, all at Sniulpoint, Idaho, and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Gasllneau at Priest Lake, Idaho. Larry West, student at EOC at La Grande, spent the week end at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey West. Roll call was answered by giving a favorite hymn. Jody Tatone gave a demon stration on how to hold yarn. The club made Easter Baskets to be distributed at the hospital in Umatilla, the Good Shepherd hospital in Hermiston, and St. Anthony's hospital in Pendleton. They aiso have been taking part in the Red Cross drive. Rev. Roll Burg gave a talk on mental health. Club members will have a Mother's Tea at the home of their leader, Mrs. Joe Tatone, May 11 .at 3:30 p. m. Mrs, Willard Baker was hos tess for a shower at her home last week in honor of Mrs. Jerry Peck, recent bride. Committee in charge was Mrs. LaVern Part low, Mrs. Zoo Billings, Mrs. Dean King, Mrs. R. A guest from out of town was Mrs. Fred Smith of Dallesport, Wn. The annual May Day program will be held at the school May 1, starting at 1 p. m. The track meet will start at 2 p. m. Greenfield Grange will meet May 10 at the hall with Mrs. Root and Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie as hosts, starting with pot luck supper at (5:30 p. m.
