By LORRAINE BALL IONE The benefit card party at the Willows Grange hall on Saturday evening was well at tended with several tables of pinochle and one table of Pedro in play. Those receiving prizes included Elmer Palmer, men's high, and Cecil Hicks, men's low. Ladies high was held by Mary Lindsey and low by Betty nausier. Mrs. BUI Seehafer re ceived the 300 pinochle prize and Donald Heliker a prize for juuu aces, rearo high went to uscar Lundell, men, and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen, women; Mrs, Oscar Lundell and Mrs. Leo Crabtree held low. Many youngsters enjoyed Jiingo in tne basement with many prizes in evidence. Refreshments were served fronts tor tne evening were $26.50, with all gifts and refresh ments donated. Mrs. Corley Home After Injury Mrs. Eulenna Corley, who re cently suffered a broken foot at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Coats of Quincy, was released from the Pendleton hospital on fnciay ot last week. She visited with her parents, Mx. and Mrs. Bill Seehafer at Boardman, until Mrs. Seehafer brought her to lone on Saturday. Mrs. Coats, who spent a few days with her granddaughter Cherry in lone, went home on Tuesday. Cherry stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gaarsland and family until her mothers return. lone Legion Auxiliary met last week at the home of Mrs. Earl McCabe with Mrs. Edith Nicker son as co-hostess. The members spent the evening making paper tiowers tor the Veterans hos pital. Next meeting will be April J. Helen Salter of Portland spent the week-end visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Salter and visiting other rel atives. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns received word from their niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. (Dorothy) Kalister of San An tonio, Texas, of the arrival of a new baby girl born Thursday, March 22. the young miss, nam ed Sharon Lynn and weighing fi lbs., 15 oz. joins a two-year-old brother. Legion Auxiliary will meet April 3 at 2:00 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Eulenna Corley. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ball and family of Yakima, Wn., were lone visitors on Sunday with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball. Kimber Pettyjohn, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Skip Pettyjohn, returned home from a Pendleton hospital last Thurs day following an illness. She is reported much improved. Mrs. Jim Gorham spent a few days with her mother, Mrs. Don ald Heliker, following a recent stay in Pioneer Memorial hos pital. She returned to her home during the week-end. Don Clark, grade school prin cipal and eighth grade teacher, was unintentionally omitted from the list of lone teachers attending OEA meetings in Port land last week. Sorry, Mr. Clark. Mrs. Ball Honored on Birthday Mrs. Lewis Ball was honored at a surprise birthday party on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. William Nichols. Fred Herman returned home last week from a recent stay in the Veterans' hospital in Walla Walla. Edythe White returned to lone this week-end after visiting with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne White in California for several weeks. Mrs. Gordon White visited in lone this past week-end. She brought Mrs. Edythe White home with her from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Devine of North Bonneville visited in lone during the week-end. They also visited in Heppner and Butter Creek areas. Lana Padberg is a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital where she was taken on Mon day due to illness. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Herman spent the week-end visiting with their son and family, Dr. and Mrs. Helmuth Herman at Oak Grove. Downing Dies In Hermiston Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ball re ceived word of the death of Bill Downing of Hermiston, last week. Mr. Downing was the husband of Mrs. Hazel Downing, our local nsurance agent for White Cross- Bankers Life and Casualty. Mrs. Downing is well known in lone, Lexington and Heppner areas. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lundell ot Milwaukee spent the week-end visiting with his grandmother, Mrs. Arvilla Swanson, and with grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Lundell, and other relatives and friends. Three Links club met on Fri day at the home of Mrs. Wate Crawford. Mrs. Anna Lindstrom received the door prize. Guests Gather At Nichols Home A potluck dinner was held on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Nichols in honor of their wedding anniversary and in honor of Mrs. Lewis Bali s birthday. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Nichols and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball and Wayne, Elmer Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bail and tamny, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Aldrich and daughters of Cecil, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Christopherson and daughters of Olex and Jerry Rood of Heppner. Others calling later in the day were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ball and family of Yakima, Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Melina re turned last week from an ex tended trip which took them to California and Arizona. After re turning to Portland, Mr Melina underwent eye surgery to re move a cataract from his right eye. A weekly cneck-up win be necessary for several weeks. Mrs. Edna Turner of Heppner will be a guest at the lone Com munity church on Sunday even ing, April 1, when she will show her colored slides and give com ments on her recent trip to the Holy Lands. These slides will impress the whole family and everyone is cordially invited to attend the 7:00 p. m. showing. Following this third meeting in the series of Lenten services, a coffee hour will be held in the church reception room. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Crawford visited on Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wate Crawford. Parker were called to Pasco, Wn., last Saturday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Parker's nephew, Francis V. Jones, former grocerman and motel owner of Pasco. The Parkers were accompan ied by their granddaughter, Mrs. George Griffith of Cecil. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Crawford, cousins of Mrs. Parker, returned to Heppner with them and staved overnight, continuing on their way to their home in Eugene on Sunday afternoon. PUTMAN FLYING INC.
