Chaff With Your Home Agent 'Magic with Mixes' Extension Study Topic Br ESTHER KIBMU Each homemaker has to con sldiT her family's preference In relation to her budget, time and energy and decide whether sh should use a "Mix" or whether she should start from scratch That's the basic reasoning of the Dceemoer extension Unit lea son. "Magic With Mixes." The project lesson U an attempt to suggest tne many ways a home maker can use the convenience food to provide variety In bak lng goods tor her family and still plve to herseii a reeling of ere atlve cooking. We held project leader train lng on "Mixes" In Board man on November 15th at the Arnold Hoffman home for Irrlgon and Boardman leaders; and In Hepp ner at the Fair Annex on No vember 21 for the leaders of Heppnor, Rhea Creek, Lena, lone, and line City. We used biscuit mix, muffin mix, refrigerated biscuits, ginger bread, hot roll mix, cake mix, nd brownie mix for this lesson. You should have been In on the tasting bee afterwards! From the biscuit mix we dem onstrated a holiday yeast bread and orange nut bread and cheese nut bread rrom a muffin mix Fruit bars from gingerbread were also displayed. Devils food cake mix was used as the foundation of mint cookies and a brownie mix for mincemeat brownies and a brownie pie. The many variations of the re frigerated biscuits was shown in a bubble loaf coffee cake, cara way bread sticks, and a garlic ring. All of these ideas will prove helpful for the holiday season as well at for the whole year. Why not call up the follow ing hostesses and- tell them you'd like to come to the De cember Extension meeting. All meetings start at 10:30 a. m. Those who have used them In the past as a guide for as sembling their Income tax report find them quite useful. Talking about Income tax, we hoH that you have kept a good set of records this year. Good records are important if you arc going to answer such questions as how did I do mis year win a particular farm enterprise; did I make a profit or suffer a lo.s; Is mv net worth greater or small er than last year; will I pay more taxes than I needed to? You can't really answer these and many other Important questions unless you keep adequate records. Good tecord keeping nMvi not be a difficult or time consuming chore. With a copy of the good record books which are now available irom many sources it taKes oniy a icw minutes a dav entering daily figures. This is a good time to plan for keeping good recorus in 19C2. The oroerams are not Identical and rates of payment differ, but the maximum diversion earn suo stantial payments for cooperators under both programs.
