News papers and farm magazines are also noting the occasion with special editorials and features. Congratulations are In order for our farm people who are doing their share to keep our country great. Executive committee members of the Morrow County Wheat Growers association have set the date of Tuesday, November 7, for their annual fall meeting. It will be held this year at the willows Granue hall in lone. with the Grange women serving lunch at noon. Senator Lloyd Key will speak to the group during lunch on the new ap portionment plan of legislators. The session gets underway at 9:30 A. M. and will last all day. Everyone Is Invited and urged to participate In drafting the recommendations and the pro gram for the day. Livestockmen will find a good selection of beef bulls being con signed for sale in the next couple ot weeks. This office has received information on at least four such sales to be held soon. First, is a range-ready bull sale spon sored by the Grant County Stock growers association, which will be held at the Grant County Fairgrounds at John Day on Monday, November 6. There are 40 grass-fat bulls offered In this sale, that carry breeding oi top lines. Next Is a production sale announced by the Double M Heretord Ranch of Adams on November 8 and on Saturday, November 11 will be the annual Roundup Polled Hereford sale at the Roundup Grounds in rencue ton. The 15ih annual Midco As sociation show and sale will be held at the Sherman county fairgrounds in Moro on Novem ber 15. County Agents KIrmis and Anderson will attend a two-day district training conference on Rural Defense at Pendleton on November 1 and 2. The Infor mational conference is being held to prepare extension ser vice personnel for its Job as the educational and lntormationai arm of Rural Defense informa tion program. During the two days, such things as fallout and radiation, basic tacts and prin ciples, shelter construction, equipping the shelter, state and county civil defense plans, coun ty organization for rural defense, biological and chemical tnreats, biological and radiological pro tection for livestock, health sani tation, first aid and weltare and long-term affects of fall-out and radiation will be discussed. Not a pleasant job to undertake but one mat win nave preierence over others in the months to come. Horse Club Meets; New Name Chosen October 22 the 4 H horse club held its first meeting in the annex building. We chose a name for our club. The name was the Saddle-ettes. The group leaders are Everett Struckmeier and Pat O'Brien. Community and county elec tions provide all producers the opportunity to elect their own representatives for administer- ng the rederal larm program. Present community committee members select a list of 10 pro ducers as nominees. A ballot, formed from this list. Is sent to all eligible farm voters. The county map indicating communi ty areas then enables producers to select nominees within their own communities. The five persons receiving the highest number of votes in a specific community comprise the community committee for the following year.
