She also received third place In her age group (Including up to 12 yeara of age for the most points won In events over the year at the annual Day Day sponsored by the Heppner Wranglers. All membera of Becky'a family ride; she has two sisters who have won many prizes and her father Is well known In horse competition throughout the area. Nil Besmer. Heppner. April 9 he won second in bull dogging and split third and fourth place In calf roping. In 1960 he placed champion in the Northwest Rodeo Asso elation calf roping, was runner up In bulldogglng and In the all around for the year's events. There will be two more go around In the spring shows. Former Resident Dies At Portland Mr J O. Haeer. HenDner. has received word of the death In Portland ADrll 10 of Bess Stone, 74. Services and burial were at Baker, April 13. Mrs. Stone and her husband Bert came to Heppner In 1910 and lived here until the early 1930's. He was employed as a saddle and harness maner Dy the Gene Noble Harness and Saddle ShoD. They moved to Pendleton, then lived at Stan field a number of years, before moving to Haines, where ne aiea in 1952. Mrs. Stone was born In Baker, June 8, 1887. The couple had no children. Both Mr. and Mrs. Stone were well-known In the area and she visited here often after moving from Heppner. Court Proceedings Raymond Wlnslow, failure to stop at stop sign, fined $15.00. Band Carnival Raises Large fund The Band Carnival was a big ntmt tit:!: a tctal rf ever fl?"" raUed, according to Paul Warren. Band Parent Club president. All expenses of the event have not been figured, but the committee reported this was not expected to h muf h more than $300 The money will be used to tureha additional band uni forms for music itudents next year. A MirhlU-ht of the evening was the crowning f a carnival king and queen. Selection was made by popular vote of gTade school students f.-r their candidate, and hlh fwhr. student for their representatives. Eighth praders Barbara Blake and Wayne Evans were candidates of the grade achool; Laura Lee Sumner and David Proudfoot for the high school. Jars were placed at the carnival and the public could vote for their choice, one vote for one penny. The eighth graders won. with over $10 counted In votes on the contest. Queen Barbara and King Wayne were presented with toy poodles following the crowning cere mony. Members of the carnival com mittee said that ! took the co operation of many people In the community to make such a suc cess and stated that they wish ed to express their appreciation to all those who took part. Six File For Three School Board Positions Three positions on Morrow County School District Board are to be filled at the school elec tion May 1. according to Robert Van Houte, administrator. Seeking election is Dick Wilk inson, Heppner, who has served five months by appointment fill ing the unexpired term of Alvln Bunch for the Heppner rural zone. Wilkinson is unopposed for the one year term. Harvey Warner, Irrigon, has served one year representing the Irrigon zone and Is now running for a five year term. Also seek ing this position are Dan Hill and Shirley Ritzer, Irrigon. Harold Baker, Boardman, has filed for a three year term from the Boardman zone. He was ap pointed to fill the place of Henry Gantenbein and has served eight months. He Is opposed by Robert Sicard, Boardman. Local Talent To Be Featured The Heppner P.T.A. Talent Show is scheduled for p. m. Anril 28. in the hleh school gym Areordins to chairman Gordon Pratt, a well-rounded program has been lined up, with acts ranging through a wide variety of talents. Funds raised by the show are used for the years program oi the local Parent-Teacher's As sociation activities and consists of the only fund raising project for the year. The McKay reaervolr haa Juat been completely cleaned of trash fish, the water haa had a ret so that food production haa built up. It has been re stocked, and fishing there should be excellent. Some 680.000 fish were released there last year for fishing this season; 100.000 flngerllngs have been released this year with 200.000 more to be planted later In the season. Though plans for Bull Prairie Lake are not completed. It Is an ticipated that a mixed stock will be planted there, with Rainbow trout and Eastern Brook trout making up the population. If carried out this will provide the only area where Eastern Brook trout are planted In the Heppner vicinity. A State Game Commission film outlining the work carried on In providing fish for anglers was shown by Game Warden Glen Ward. Ward said that 157.000 deer were killed in Oregon last year. 11.000 more than ever before. At 10,800 the elk kill was also of an oil. time hleh. The trend In deer population shows a "real good population came through the winter." Ward said and stat ed that hunting conditions should be good next fall. Oregon has been either first or second In the nation in deer killed since 1953, Ward said. The pheasant population Is also good In the county, and hunters should have good game bags during that season. Cutsforth Buys Cleveland Ranch Orvllle Cutsforth. Lexington, ha signed a contract to pur chase the Howard Cleveland ranch four mile cast of Heppner on Willow creek. The 4.200-acre ranch Includes the old Cleve land home ranch and the Bruce Kelly ranch, which adjoin each other. About 200 hend of Shorthorn cattle are Included In the pur chase. Cutsforth said that his son Kenneth, who Is now operating a wheat ranch with other sons, will take possession and start running the ranch around the first of the year. The purchase price was not disclosed. Mr. and Mrs. Roice Fulleton and Becky were In Pendleton on Sunday where Becky participated In the Mustangers play-day.
