e lone P-TA Plans ' Christmas Program For December 22 By ECHO PALMATEER The lone P-TA meeting was ueiu weanesaay evening, Dec 9 with Mrs Norman Nelson, pres ident conducting; a prayer was given by Rev James Riley, the ndg saiute given, and all sang America. Mrs Fredrick Martin, membership chairman, reported that there are 169 members. Mrs Raymond Lundell reported that dish towels were needed for the Kitchen, also Betty Crocker cou pons. Committees for the Christmas program and tree, Dec 22 at 7:30 P M are, Mr and Mrs Berl Akers, chairman of the sacking com mittee; the Girls League In charge of the decorations, sever al members soliciting for the treats and the members of the Letterman club will be Santas helpers. Mrs Robert Jepsen had charge of the program for the evening and introduced the speaker, Dal las Shockley, superintendent of the lone schools, who spoke on the grading and testing system in the lone schools. He told the the dues 50 cents. The 12th night reason -for giving grades, the methods of determining the grades, and the different factors. The different methods of grading are ability, curve and percen tage. The lone schools use the percentage method from the 4th through high school. He also told of the different kinds of I Q tests and achievement tests. Methods were explained by use of the projector and illustrations on the blackboard. Questions were asked by the group and answered by Mr Shockley. Refreshments were served from tables decorated in the Christmas theme. The hostesses were Mrs Orville Cutsforth, Mrs Gar Leyva, Mrs Ellwyne Peck, Mrs Bill Nichols, Mrs C C Jones and Mrs Kenneth Klinger. The 4th and 10th grades re ceived the highest percentage room count. The lone Garden club met at the home of Mrs Fredrick Mar tin Tuesday with Mrs Ralph Crum, Mrs William Rawlins and Mrs Carl Bergstrom as co-host esses. A potlucK luncheon was served at noon. Mrs Noel Dobyns played sever al numbers on the organ. Mrs Robert Jepsen and Mrs Delmer Crawford entertained at a dinner at the Jepsen home Friday evening of last week in honor of the birthdays of Mrs Gene Hall, Mrs Pete Cannon and Walter Jacobs. Christmas corsages and pieces were made for the nursing home in the hospital. Swags will be made and placed in the business houses. There were 15 present at the meeting. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs Kathryn Yarnell, Jan 12. The Maranatha club and Clr cles ot fhe Women Fellowship groups met at the Community church parlors Wednesday with a potluck dinner at noon. The members of the circles decorated the tables with Christmas can dies and other Christmas orna ments. After a short business meeting conducted by Mrs E Markham Baker president, a program was given on Christmas around the world with Mrs Alfred Nelson and Mrs Wallace Matthews in charge. Different ones read about Christmas customs In countries and illustrations were shown of each. The Topic club members met at the home of Mrs Echo Palm- ateer Friday afternoon of last week with Mrs Fannie Griffith and Mrs John Proudfoot as co- hostesses. After the business meeting conducted by Mrs Nor man Nelson, president a pro gram was given on Alaska. Mrs raimateer snowea slides on Alaska and Mrs Griffith told of the history, the people and other interesting things on Alaska. The roll call was answered by naming something concerning the economy or politics of Alas ka. The January meeting will be held at the home of Mrs Charles O'Connor. Mr and Mrs John Proudfoot and family spent the weekend in Portland. Mr and Mrs Verner Troedson were Portland visitors last week. Mr and Mrs Herbert Ekstrom Jr are having additional rooms added to their house on Main Street. Mrs Joe Gaarsland and Mrs James Morgan entertained the pinochle club at the Gaarsland Phil Emert Jr. Others going were Mrs Fredrick Martin, Rev Rod MacKenzle, Marilyn Morgan, Sharon Crabtree, Paula Barak, Wayne Hams, Tom Harris, Joe Palmer, Kenny Lynn Smouse, There are some things best left to the professionals! Sam Barnett has received his discharge from the U S Navy U1 and is staying at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs Ray Barnett. He has been stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Rice and son, Bob, left Sunday for Port land to attend the funeral ser vice of his brother, Delbert Rice, Monday at 1 P M. Mr Rice died Dec 9 In Moro.
