Pratts Entertain Duplicate Bridge Club On Sunday The Duplicate bridge club met at the home of Mr and Mrs Gordon Pratt Sunday evening. Those attending were Mr and Mrs Conley Lanham, Mr and Mrs La Verne Van Marter, Mr and Mrs L E Dick, Mr and Mrs Richard Meador, Dr and Mrs Wallace Wolff, Mrs Lowell Gribble, Mr and Mrs Clint McQuarrie, Mrs Allen Case and Mrs Eddie Gun derson. Refreshments were served at the end of the evening. Baby Shower Honors Mrs Bud Peck Monday Mrs Bud Peck was honored Monday evening with a baby shower at the home of Mrs Bob Flatt. Increased Interest Hoped For in Local Scouting Program A meeting of all committee members of the Heppner Scout troop was called on Monday, Dec 7 at the home of Clint McQuarrie. The purpose of the meeting was to recharter the troop for the coming year. James Angell, chairman of the committee was in charge of the meeting. Avery Taylor, Scoutmaster for this area has set up a seperate meeting night at his home for the boys to meet and participate in different kinds of hobbies. Many varied crafts are available for the boys at the present time. Mr Taylor has said that he is open to any constructive ideas that members of the troop might suggest to him. The boys this year are selling mistletoe as well as Christmas trees and hope to see lots of it in the Heppner homes this I year. If the sale of mistletoe is good this Christmas, then it will be continued again next year. Guests were Mrs Robert Abrams, Mrs Wallace Wolff, Mrs Robert Jones, Mrs Dick Wilkin son, Mrs Bill Siewert, Mrs Charles Collins and Mrs Harold Laird. The high score for the evening was held by Mrs Wolff, the low was Mrs Wilkinson and the tra veling prize was received by Mrs Collins. Pinochle Club Meets Friday Afternoon Mrs Robert Lowe entertained her pinochle club Friday after noon at her home and guests were Mrs Ambrose Chapin, Mrs Walter Becket, Mrs 0 E Wright, Mrs Henry Happold, Mrs Earle Gilliam, Mrs Max Harris and Mrs Art Watkins. Mrs Harris won high, Mrs Gil liam was low and the double pinochle prize was won by Mrs Watkins and Mrs Happold. Dessert was served. Jimmy Van Winkle Has Sixth Birthday Jimmy Van Winkle celebrated his sixth birthday Saturday af ternoon of last week, and his guests were Loren Hopper, Neal Edwards, Johnny Payne, Leslie and Carol Collins and Laurie Labhart. Jimmy and his guests attended the afternoon show and then re turned to the home of his par ents, Mr and Mrs Jack Van j Winkle for cake, ice cream and games. Those who feel that they can be helpful in this matter are asked to contact Clint McQuarrie at Central Mar ket or John Pfeiffer at the West ern Auto store in Keppner. The reason for this is to help the boys obtain a uniform for this year. It will especially be helpful to those who can't afford new ones. Liquor Stores Set Early Closing Hours Hugh R Kirkpatrick, chairman of the Oregon liquor control com mission, announced Wednesday that all state stores and agen cies will close at 6:0o p m, Dec ember 24 and December 31. The early closing time for Christmas eve and New Year's eve was established two years ago in compliance with requests from community leaders throughout the slate. The commission also announ ced at its monthly meeting that specially wrapped packages and decanter bottles of distilled spir its went on public sale Monday, November 16. Careful consid eration is given to each appli cation to insure that all prem ises are complying with the statutes, with special attention being given to sanitation. A number of licensees have been warned that deficiencies must be remedied or their privileges will not be extended past December 31. Van Bergen also stated that licensees should return their ap plications to the commission by December 15 to be sure of re ceiving their licenses before Jan uary 1.
