HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, November 12. 1959 gociAL Happenings Josephine Thompson, Social Reporter mtttttttttnTi Many Attend Church Loyalty Dinner Of All Saints Episcopal A Loyalty dinner for the mem- bers of the Episcopal church was week r the Heppner h'fh school ca'elerla, with about one hun dred and twenty attending. The dinner was given by the men of the church and the mas ter of ceremonies for the evening was Clarence Rosewall, who also gave a taiK on loyalty to tne church and the every member, canvass. After the dinner which was prepared by the Heppner P-TA, Dr MeMurdo was called upon to give the history of the church, lic told of the age of the church which Is 77 years and all the names of the ministers from the first to the present, and also the first wedding and the first bap tism. The first Episcopal church was erected in 1889 across from the present creamery and was demolished in the 1903 flood. The present chuich was erected with the old corner-stone re-layed in 1904. The Rev Bruce Spencer gave a talk on spiritual happiness and peace of mind. The acoJytes served the din ner. Renegers Club Meets At Labhart Home The Renegers bridge club met at the home of Mrs Bill Labhart Wednesday evening of last week. The guests were Mrs James Farley, Mrs Taul Webb, Mrs Creston Robinson, Mrs Dick Meador, Mrs Eddie Gunderson, Mrs Gene Hall, Mrs La Verne Van Marter, Mrs James Norene, Mrs Gordon Pratt, Mrs Bill Bar ratt and Mrs Alex Thompson. High prize for the evening was won by Mrs Norene, second high was won by Mrs Van Marter and low was won by Mrs Parley. Dessert was served at the end of the evening. Ladies Night Held At Elks Thursday Ladies night was held Thurs day evening at the Elks Lodge, with Mrs Bill Blake, Mrs Harry Bongers, Mrs Les Wyman and Mrs Philip Blnkney on the ser ving committee. Mrs Blakney was chairman for the evening. In pinochle Mrs Kemp Dick was high and Mrs Tom Hughes was second high. In bridge high was Mrs Ned Swoek and second high was Mrs Harlan McCurdy Sr. The door prize was received by Mrs John Bergstrom. Refreshments were served by the hostesses at the end of the evening. Hawaii Theme Of Mothers Club Meeting Hawaii was the theme for the evening at the home of Mrs Vic- tor Kreimeyer, when memDcrs and euests of the Heppner Mo- club met for their regular meeting, Each person was greeted with a lei by Vickl Kreimeyer, who was dressed in the grass skirt of the Island dancers. The roll call was an exchange of bulbs and plants. Each member was given a year book designed by Mrs John Ryd gren. After the business meeting, everyone enjoyed a tour by word and picture of the Hawaiian is lands, given by Miss Esther Kir mis. It was felt a trip to the Islands will be much more en joyable now that some of the history and highlights are known of the newest state. Guests of the evening were Miss Kirmis, Mrs Don Clark, Mrs Robert Van Houte, Mrs Sam Na gel, Mrs Ray Williamson and Mrs Austin McGhee. Refreshments were served by the hostess and co-hostess, Mrs Kreimeyer and Mrs Rod Murray. The next meeting will be Dec ember 7 at the home of Mrs Nels Anderson, Wolffs Entertain At Sunday Bridge Party Dr and Mrs Wallace Wolff were hosts for four tables of bridge at their home Sunday evening, Their guests were Mr and Mrs Bob Abrams, Mr and Mrs Bill Blake, Mr and Mrs Bill Labhart, Mr and Mrs James Mallon, Mr and Mrs Gordon Pratt and Mr and Mrs Don Pyle. High score was held by Mr and Mrs Labhart, second high was Mr and Mrs Pratt and Mrs Abrams won the door prize. Nov 5, with Mrs Bill Rietmann and Mrs Ro bert Rletmann as co-hostesses. Members gave their contribu tions toward the air conditioner in the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Guests present at the meeting were Mrs Rod MacKenzie, Mrs James Monroe, Mrs Don Olm- scheid and Mrs Gilbert LuJan. Mrs Walter Corley explained the constitution and by-laws. Soroptimists Give To Hospital Project The regular monthly business meeting was held last Thursday noon by the Soroptlmist Club of Heppner, at the Wagon Wheel. Boys Guild Has Saturday Breakfast Twenty-two boys attended the St Alban's Acolyte Server's guild breakfast Saturday morning at the Episcopal parish house with the Rev Bruce Spencer. The breakfast was cooked by Mrs Frank Ayers. MEETING PLACE CHANGED The regular meeting of the Triple-Link club will be held Monday, Nov 16 at 8 p m at the home of Mrs Frank Ayers on Gale street rather than at the home of Mrs Ray McDowell as had been announced. Guests were Nancy Cleveland, Christine Prussing, Jean Siewert, Vicki Barratt, Darlene Anderson, Tamara Smith and Terryl Green up. 4-H Club News HOOF AND HORN 4-H CLUB Ronny Jones, the new presi dent, presided over the two jneet- ings of the Hoof and Horn club which was held at the home of Marcel Jones. Mike Warren lead the Amer ican flag salute and Douglas Anderson lead the 4-H flag sal ute. The 15 members answered the roll call topic by telling what projects they're going to carry. Kit Anderson lead two songs. Mrs Anderson and Ricky, Mr and Mrs Paul Warren and Matt, Mrs Van Schoiack and Jimmy and Mrs Drake, Gwendy and Ricky were guests. Refreshments of apple cider and doughnuts were served by Mrs Jones. The assistant county agent Joe Hay showed a film on different methods of managing swine feeding.
