Social Reporter AvAERRY TAILORS 4-H CLUB HAS TEA IN HONOR OF MOTHERS SATURDAY The Merry Tallore 4-H club under the leadership of Mrs BUI Rawlins gave a tea In honor of their mothers Saturday afternoon of last week at the Rhea Creek Grange hall. The mothers attending were Mrs Hubert Wilson, Mrs Clarence Baker, Mrs Jerry Daggett, Mrs Les Wyman, Mrs Harley Young, Mrs E K Schaffltz, Mrs Raymond French, Mrs Paul Koenlg, Mrs Bill Sowell, Mrs Alex Thompson, Mrs Barton Clark, Mrs Clem Stockard, and Mrs Kenneth Bat ty. Mrs Batty assisted Mrs Raw lins with the tea. Miss Esther Kirmls was a special guest. The program consisted of dif ferent members speaking on the various things they learned throughout the year. Joan Stock ard gave an explanation about the club meeting; Marsha Sow ell told of the different things needed for their sewing kit and the fundamentals In basic sew ing, also the articles they made; Nonda Clark and Carol Rawlins explained the correct use of the various articles In sewing; Diane Schaffltz gave a short talk on the care of clothing; Janice Ba ker and Kay Daggett gave a talk on colors and fabrics; Kristy Koe nlg explained about the 4-H rec ords that each member keeps for the year; Sheridan Wyman told of the things done for others by the members of the Merry Tailors and Mrs Rawlins gave a short explanation of next years plans. Gayle Batty, Verina French and Joan Stockard each played a piano solo before tea. Fall flowers decorated the room and the tea table was doc orated with a white lace table cloth over pink with pink, lav ender and white mums and pink candles for a center piece. Miss Klrmis and Mrs French poured. Assisting with the refresh ments and decorations were Kar en and Vcrlna French, Brenda Young, Diane Schaffltz, Sheridan Wyman, Rogena Wilson, Nonda Clark, Carol Rawlins, Gall Batty, Linda Thompson, Janice Baker, Joan Stockard, Marcla Sowell, Kay Daggett and Kristy Koenlg. The sewing done by each mem ber was displayed for the moth ers to see. Each mother was presented with a gift made by their daugh ters, and Mrs Rawlins and Mrs Batty were presented with gifts by the members In appreciation of their work for the year. Kay Daggett was also presented with a special gift for keeping a com plete record of clothing care for six weeks. Altar Society Plans Annual Smorgasbord.. Altar Society of the St Pat rick's church met Tuesday night of last week at the home of Mrs Philip Blakney. Mrs James Johnston and Mrs Ray Thalberg were hostesses and about twenty five attended. There was discussion about the coming smorgasbord and the date it will be held Is November 15, on Sunday. Guests at the meeting from lone were Mrs Gar Swanson, Mrs Ted Palmateer and Mrs Charles Doherty. Guests from Lexington were, Mrs Bill Doherty and Mrs Alex Lindsay. Mrs Blakney Has High Score At Bridge Club The Kings Little Queens bridge club met at the home of Mrs Bill Blake Thursday evening of last week with Mrs Les Wyman as co-hostess. Those enjoying cards were Mrs Pat O'Brien, Mrs Paul Koenlg, Mrs Bill Sowell, Mrs Herb Ham ilton, Mrs Philip Blakney, Mrs Harry O'Donnell, Mrs Jerry Dag gett, and Mrs Clint McQuarrie. Mrs Ferguson, the chairman, conducted the business meeting then turned the remainder of mooting over to Mrs Turner and Mrs Scrivner who gave an in teresting talk on Hawaii stating that the islands are about the size of New Jersey and are made up of 8 islands with the pop ulation of 585,025. The maor crop is sugar cane with pineapple second. The third Income Is tour ist trade. Their alphabet consists of only 12 letters brought In by the missionaries many years ago. Mrs Turner showed slides of the Hawaiian people, their land, cities, flowers, landscapes, and its Industries taken by Mrs Nor man Nelson. Pineapple upside-down cake was served by the hostess at the close of the meeting. The next meeting will be on copper tooling to be held Nov ember 10 at Mrs Ray Drake's starting at 10:30. It will be an all-day meeting and everyone Is asked to bring their own sack lunch. All those Interested In at tending, are asked to call Mrs Munkers, Mrs Ferguson, or Mrs Bill Heath as soon as possible, so arrangements can be made to accommodate everyone. Mothers Club Holds Business Meeting The Mothers Club met last week at the home of Mrs Robert Jones with Mrs Fred Prussing serving as co-hostess for about 20 members. A regular business meeting was followed by a series of in teresting games played under the direction of Mrs Bob Brindle, entertainment chairman. Reneqers Club Meets At Thompson Home The Renegers bridge club was entertained at the home of Mrs Alex Thompson Wednesday ev ening of last week. Those playing cards were Mrs Richard Meador, Mrs Allen Case, Mrs La Verne Van Marter, Mrs Gene Hall, Mrs Frank Anderson, Mrs Paul Koenig, Mrs James Mallon, Mrs Eddie Gunderson, Mrs Paul Webb, Mrs James Nor ene, Mrs Marshall Lovgren and Mrs James Farley. Mrs Van Marter was high win ner for the evening with Mrs Hall winning second high and Mrs Meador low. Refreshments were served at the end of the evening. Marie Van Marter Celebrates Birthday Marie Van Marter celebrated her fifth birthday with a party, at the home of her parents, Wed nesday afternoon of last week. Guests were Shelley and Kel ley Wolff, Tracy Norene, Shan non Farley, Laurie Labhart, Trisha Prock, Bobette Jones, Kathy Prussing, Tammi Meador, Becky Webb, John, Jan, Cindy and Herby Ekstrom, David and Johnny Hall and her brothers LaVerne and Paul. She reviewed the structure of Soroptimist clubs and reminded the members that there are 40,000 Soroptimists in 30 coun tries. A final report was given by the card party committee and the cornmittee in charge of the an nual hayride reported on the plans that have been made. On Wednesday evening, Mrs Hamilton met with the board of directors of the Soroptimist Club of Hennner, at the home of Mrs John Pfeiffer, president of the Heppner club. Rhea Creek Unit Studies Hawaii On October 7 the Rhea Creek extension unit met at the grange hall for the monthly meeting and to organize the unit for the coming year. This meeting was for the pur pose of learning more about the newest state, Hawaii. The busi ness meeting was held In the fore-noon, with 15 members and one guest, Mrs Charles Wilcox, attending. Each member brought a sack lunch and the project leader, Shirley Palmer, prepared a Ha wiian main dish for the noon meal. After lunch, Mrs Palmer took the club on a tour of Hawaii, with the help of pictures. There were several' articles of clothing and other objects on display a round the room. The next meeting will be held November 4 in the grange hall and will be an all day meeting. The project will be copper tool ing and anyone interested is wel come to attend. Bridge Club Meets At Schaffitz Home Mrs E K Schaffitz entertained the Whats Trumps bridge club for a salad luncheon last Wed nesday afternoon. Guests were Mrs Earl Blake, Mrs James Thomson, Mrs C E McQuarrie, Mrs Allen Case, Mrs Claude Graham, Mrs L D Tibbies, Mrs Clarence Rosewall, Mrs Lowell Gribble, Mrs Raymond Fereuson, Mrs P W Mahoney, Mrs Gene Ferguson and Mrs Robert Penland. Mrs Raymond Ferguson held high score for the afternoon, Mrs Thomson was second high, Mrs Roseall third and Mrs Blake low. Mrs Rosewall was welcomed by the club as a new member. Robinson Home Scene Of Friday Club Meet The Friday night bridge club was entertained at the home of Mrs Creston Robinson last week. Her guests were Mrs Riley Munkers, Mrs Don Bellenbrock, Mrs Bill Heath, Mrs Richard Meador, Mrs Bill Labhart, Mrs James Norene and Mrs Kemp Dick. High score for the evening was held by Mrs Bellenbrock, second high was Mrs Meador and Mrs Dick won low. Sans Souci Rebekahs To Have Visitation Rose E Vose, president of the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon, will pay her official visit to Sans Siuci Rebekah lodge no 33 on Friday evening, October 16. Rebekahs in the vicinity are invited to attend a potluck at 6:30 p m, Friday in honor of Mrs Vose. All officers are urged to come in formal attire.
