SADDLE VS SULKEY
The next meeting of the Ore
gon State Fair Commission Is ex
pected to a very well attended
event. Sulkey horse owners have
been alerted by a report made by
Al LIghtner, director of racing.
In answering commission quest
ions, LIghtner said harness races
were costing the State Fair
money each day. "Tracks for
harness races and runners are
different," the widely-quoted
sports writer explained, "and it
is difficult to prepare the tracks
between times for the different
requirements of the two types
of races."
"If it were put to a vote of the
track frequenters, removal of the
harness events would be favored
overwhelmingly," LIghtner stat

CHRISTMAS NOTE
The Post Office Department
has rescinded an order that
would have banned the use of
the so-called "midget letters,"
smaller than 2-34 by 4 Inches

the bulk of the "midget letters."
A change in regulations that
affects mailers of third class ma
terials is one covering covers 9
by 12 Inches in size or larger.
These covers now carry double
the former rate of three cents an
ounce.
