HEPPNER QAZETTE-TIMES, Mustang Football Practice Slated To Start Aug 24 Football practice for the Hepp ner high Mustangs will begin at 9 a m, August 24, coach Jim Mallon announced this week and two practices a day are sched uled before school starts. Mallon predicted that he would have between 35 and 40 boys out for practice this year, In cluding six new players who have transferred to Heppner from other schools. Hoppncr will be classed as an A-2 school for the coming year, but because of scheduling diffi culties, most of Heppner's games will be played with B teams. The schedule Is: Sopt 11, Elgin, here Sept 18, Condon, there Sept 25, McEwan, there Oct 2, Pilot Rock, there Oct 9, Stanfield, here Oct 16, Maupin, there Oct 23, Umatilla, there Oct 30, Sherman, here Nov 6, Echo, here. August 6. 1958 Tom Heimbigner Qualifies for Water Ski Tourney Tom Heimbigner, son of Mr and Mrs Ray Heimbigner of lone, this week received his first class rating card and emblem from the national headquarters of the American Water Ski association. This qualifies him to enter the western regional water ski tourn ament to held In Denver, Colo August 8 and 9. Tom recently took his third, second and first class tests at the Oregon open water ski tourn ament at Medford. The first class test must be OK'd by an ap proved judge and given final ap proval by the national head quarters. A first class rating Is necessary to qualify in a region al tournament. Tom recently won first in the slalom at the Washington State open tournament and grand champion trophy at McNary Aqua Capers July 4 and 5. ANDERSNS HAVE GUESTS Guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Ervin Anderson the last two weeks have been their daugh ters, Mrs Larry Martin of Port land and Mrs Al Parent and Lisa of La Grande. Also visiting here has been Mrs Anderson's brother and family, Mr and Mrs Boyd Redding, Randy and Sharl of Los Angeles, her nieces Mrs Bobbie Henderson and Carrie Eileen and Mrs Larry Prultt of Vancouver and their parents, Mr and Mrs Fred Jinklnson of Carson, Wash. Laura Les Sumner and Judy Hamilton are visiting at the home of Mary Ellen Ruper In The Dalles this week. 298 i 3 to 6X8" OQS I 7 to 14 v I Babe Ruth Squad Drops Two Games The Heppner Babe Ruth ball club In Its second game of the season July 18 lost to Condon by a score of 14 to 10. It proved to be a tight game all the way. On August 1 the Heppner boys again met KInzua on their field and the Wheeler county boys retaliated by winning this game 5 to 3. It wasn't until the third Inning that Heppner pulled a head by bringing In two runs to top KInzua by one. Again In the fifth, Heppner got a man home, but Kinzua also put across three that Inning and another In the sixth to take the game 5 to 3. There will be one more game played this season. It Is set for Saturday, August 15 at the Hepp ner rodeo grounds. The club and those in charge wish to thank the different people for their helD in sunnlvine transportation for Its members. Mr and Mrs L E Dick left Wednesday for their home in Helena, Montana after a visit here with Mr Dick's sons and their families, Mr and Mrs Kemp Dick and Mr and Mrs L E Dick Jr. Mr and Mrs Ivor Davles of The Dalles were In Heppner over the weekend to work at Fhil's Phar macy while Mr Blakney attend-1 ed the gift shop in Portland. While here the Davles were houseguests at the home of Mr and Mrs Harry Bongers. Mr and Mrs Bill Labhart left Sunday morning for Corvallis where they Joined his brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Bob Labhart, for a week's trip to San Francisco and plan on attending the baseball games there. Mr and Mrs Clyde Nutting re turned to Heppner after a two week vacation and fishing trip to Lake Penask in Canada. Mr and Mrs Harry Bongers and their son and Miss Carla Rul kens spent the weekend at Wal lowa Lake with friends and also attended Chief Joseph Days. Mr and Mrs Mike Bovlen of Pendleton were visiting last Tuesday at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Anderson. Mr and Mrs Robert Lewe were in Arlington for the weekend vis iting at the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Krebs. While there they met Mrs Emma Gatewood (Grandma Gatewood who has been walking from Indepen dence, Mo as a Good Will Am bassador). On Sunday they went boating, and that evening they met their daughter-in-law and grandson, Mrs Rose Ryan and Pat who returned with them for a few days visit. Dr and Mrs O E Cooley of West Des Moines, Iowa were visiting last week at the homes of Mr and Mrs D E Hudson and Mr and Mrs Tom Wells. The Wells spent from Thursday to Sunday with them at Lake Pend Orlelle as they were returning home by way of Glacier National Park. Mr and Mrs James Valentine and daughter, Kim returned Thursday from California where they were visiting their daugh ter Karen. Karen Is In the Santa Rosa Memorial hospital and ex pects to be there for two weeks. Mr and Mrs Gene Hazelhurst and son returned to Spokane Sat urday after visiting at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs James Valentine. This "help" day was scheduled to promote better demonstrations and showings at the fair to be held in Heppner, August 27-29. Assisting Miss Kirmls In dir ecting this "Help" day were Miss Frances Harvey, Umatilla county extension agent; Mrs Katherlne Hagar, home economics instruc tor of Heppner schools; and Joe Hay, Morrow county extension agent Demonstrations presentd on Thursday included: "cottage cheese dishes" Judy Smith, Heppner Spoon L 1 c k e r s club; "how to feed a 4-H dairy calf- Martha Peck, Lexington Lex ington Livestock club; "fringing a table cloth" Cheryle Lundell, lone Sew & Sew girls club; "cleaning a sewing machine" Karen Lundell, lone Make & Model club; "how to make an apple crisp" Cherllyn Smouse and Susan Lind strom, lone; "milk drinks" Betty Jane An gell and Claudia Nolan Hepp ner Kookettes. Girls enrolled In advanced sewing were also advised as to choice of accessories to go with the costumes they are making for fair exhibit. Time did not permit the judg ing contest practice scheduled for that day. Therefore a judging workout for 4-H home economics members on foods, clothing and home living is being scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, at 2:00 P M at the annex building of the Heppner Fair Grounds. 4-H members are urged to attend this practice session to sharpen-up for the real judging contest to be held on Wednesday afternoon, August 26, of the fair.
