Thursday, Juno 25, 1359 Lexington News By DELPHA JONES The Women's Fell owshlp group of the Lexington Christian church met at the home of Mrs Mae Campbell on Tuesday after noon. The minutes were read and approved. It was decided that the fellowship croup pur chase kitchen linoleum for the parsonage, and a collection was taken at this time. It was decided to start a missionary grcup, and the committee in charge of this was Mae Campbell, with co chairman Betty Marquardt and advisor Florence McMillan, and a fancy work or bazaar group was planned, with the bazaar planned for early November. Mrs Bettv Marquardt was in charge of the devotionals, with a tape recording of a friend, testimonial and inspiriatlonal songs. Lovely refreshments wore served, to the following, Mrs Cora Allyn, Mrs Lola Breeding, Mrs Trina Parker, Miss Dona Barnett, Mrs LaVerne Henderson, Mrs Florence McMil lan, Mrs Betty Marquardt, Mrs Rena Marquardt, and Mrs Del pha Jones and the hostess Mrs Campbell. Thp next meeting is planned at the Lola Breeding home. All interested are invited to attend. 1 Mr and Mrs Max Breeding were Portland visitors over the week end and attended the Centen nial in Portland. Gary Miller who has been vis iting at the Cecil Jones has gone to his home in La Grande and left with his parents, Mr and Mrs W I Miller for a trip to Tennessee to visit Mr and Mrs Wayne Miller. Miss Nancy Doherty small daughter of Mr and Mrs B J Doherty Is a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital having under gone major surgery. Frosted Cranberry Salad 1 pkg. lemon flavored gelatin '2 cup chopped pecans l'i cups canned orange juice Salad greens 1 can (1 lb.) cranlerry sauce 1 cup cottage cheese V'j cup chopped celery 2 tablespoons mayonnaise Dissolve gelatin in hot orange juice. Add cranberry sauce; stir until blended. Chill until mixture begins to thicken. Add celery and pecans; put in mold. Chill until firm. Unmold on crisp greens and frost top with cottage cheese and mayonnaise mixed together. Six servings. Lasl-Mimite Shrimp Spaghetti 1 small clove garlic 1 can (1 lb.) spaghetti 2 tablespoons bacon fat in tomato sauce 1 can (4'j to 6'j 02.) shrimp 4 teaspoon celery salt Cook minced garlic in fnt until tender. Add drained shrimp, spaghetti and celery salt. Heat. Three to four servings. We were taken on a tour through the building one morning and I was amazed at the many pro jects being carried on. Better foods for Oregon shop pers is the aim of Oregon State College research. Consumer ac ceptance, improved marketing and new uses for Oregon's agri cultural abundance are objectiv es of food technology research now in progress or recently com pleted at OSC. New methods of processing are foreseen by college scientists as they explore the possibilities of freeze drying and irradiation of foods. In freeze drying, food is frozen, dried under vacuum, and stored on the pantry shelf. OSC is in vestigating freeze drying of meats which retain their original phape, and restore to natural flavor and juiciness when reconstituted. Atomic radiation may also pro long the market and storage life of meats, fruits and vegetables, as shown In OSC and other tests. Oysters, precooked seafoods, crab, shrimp, sablefish, scallops, fish cake and smoked cod will be ir radiated In this year's tests. New recipes for dried apples, chicken and green beans, are also being developed in OSC "test kitchens".
