lone Garden Club

The lone Garden club met at
the home of Mrs Walter Dobvns
Tuesday, June 9 with a picnic
dinner at noon. At the business
meeting It was voted to give $1
to the Willamette National cem
etery fund and $1 to the Clair
Hanely fund, a scholarship fund
lor students studying horticul
ture. Mrs William Rawlins and
Mrs Elbe Akers will visit the
nursing home in the Pioneer
Memorial hospital, June 15.

the pony express from Board-
man to Blalock with the Ar
lington Saddle Club were John
Eubanks and daughter, Sandra
and Don Linnell, Lee Pettyjohn
and daughter, Nancy of Arling
ton also rode. The Saddle club
picked up the mail from the Sage
Riders at Boardman and were
attacked by the Indians there.
There were 18 riders and they
rode 36 miles and averaged 22
miles an hour. They left Board
man at 2:20 P M and were es
corted by state police. The mail
left Meacham at 9 a m. Others
from here who saw the riders

Lewis Halvorsen home and is
working at the county agent's
office in Heppner. She has com
pleted her junior year at Pacific
University.

Mrs Ray Barnett was honor
ed with a birthday party at her
home Tuesday afternoon, June

attended the funeral services of
his brother-in-law, A Alplanalp
in Beaverton, June 6. Mr Alplan
alp died from injuries received
in a mill accident.

Miss Shirlee McGreer, daugh

where she will spend the rest
of this month and will attend
a musical festival.

Open house was held in the
new lone branch of the Eastern
Oregon here Saturday, June 13,
2 to 5 p m. The rooms were
filled with flowers from individ
uals and organizations. A large
crowd attended. Gifts were avail
able and refreshments were serv

the Community church.
Mrs Alfred Nelson gave a very
interesting report on the Congre
gational state convention in
Portland in May. After a busi
ness meeting conducted by Mrs
Palmer, vice president, a hand
kerchief shower was given in
honor of Mrs Grace Ware. Mrs
Walter Dobyns, Bonnie Akers
and Kathy Keene assisted with
the gifts. Mrs Ware was also
presented with a gift from the
club. She is leaving June 27 for
Morton, Wash, to make her home
near her son-in-law and daugh
ter, Mr and Mrs G V Crumb.

at a meeting Friday afternoon,

Osburn, Idaho spent the week
end with their daughter and

were on their way home from
a trip into Kansas. Mrs Miller
is the former Mabel Cool.

and daughters left last week for
their home in Los Angeles. Mrs
Armington and daughters spent
a few weeks at the home of her
parents, Mr and Mrs Dale Ray.

Monetta Aldrich teaches the pri

helper; Mrs Anna M Ball is the

musician. The school will end
Friday, June 20 with a program.

The services for the ordination
to the Christian ministry of Don
Campbell were held on Sunday
afternoon, at the Lexington
Christian church.
The program for the afternoon
was as follows: prelude, Mrs
Betty Marquardt. Call to wor
ship and invocation, Charles

church; hymn "Take my life
and let it be"; scripture reading
by Jim Pfouts and pastoral pray
er also by Jim Pfouts; followed
by a solo, "Just for today" by

ordination sermon by Howard
Larson. Vernon Munkers, read
the letters of recommendation,
after which the congregation
sang "O Master, let me Walk
With Thee." Following this, the
service of ordination was held:
first the charge to the ordained
by Dr Rice, Laying on of the
hands, and ordination prayer by
Howard Larson: the charge to
Mrs Campbell was given by Mrs
Ward Rice, and prayer of con
secration, by Mrs Ward Rice, and
the closing was with a solo, "In
Love Abiding" by Phyllis Nolan
and benediction.

an appropriate scripture verse
The tea table was centered with
a dark cake decorated with a
Bible verse and adorned with
white roses. From this table the
tea and coffee was served, with
the punch being served from an
adjoining table decorated with
yellow rose buds and a crystal

tario, on Sunday morning where
he met Mr Howard Larson bring
ing him here and after the ser
vice returned with him to On
tario. He was accompanied on
the return trip by Mrs O W
Cutsforth.

children were Portland business
visitors on Monday.
Mr and Mrs E E Peck were
Portland visitors over the week
end. .
