Portland University, third grade; Don Clark of EOCE, the 5th grade. He taught in Pilot Rock and Pendleton and Is now in the forest service in Heppner; Donald Olmscheid of Corpus Christie, Texas, will teach the 8th grade, coach and be grade school principal. He was elected as teacher of the month of April by the Klwanis club in Corpus Christie; In the high school Miss Ann Reynolds of Marylhurst College will teach English and Physical Education Teachers remaining here are Mrs Harriet Hall, 1st grade; Mrs Roxie Moeck, 2nd grade; Mrs Gladys Ely, 4th grade; Dallas Shockley, superintendent of the school; Gilbert Lujan, Arnle Hedmar, Charles Hudson and Grant Rigby. Don Brostrom, 7th and 8th grade teacher will go to Central school at Halsey; Joe Hausler, 5th and 6th grade teacher has a years leave of ab sence to attend the University of Utah. Mrs Allie Albertson, 3rd grade teacher and Miss Carolina Schlafmann, high school English and P E teacher both resigned. The 6th and 7th grade teachers have not been hired yet Mrs Fredrick Martin was elected president of the lone Garden club at a meeting Tues day afternoon, May 12 at the home of Mrs Ernest Heliker. Other officers elected were Mrs Phil Emert, vice president; Mrs Elber Akers, secretary and Mrs Edith Nichoson was re-elected treasurer. Mrs Martin conducted the meeting. Mrs Omar Riet mann on the corsage committee, made 5 corsages for the Mother Daughter tea and members of the club will make corsages for the P-TA' installation. The June meeting will be held in the city park with a picnic dinner at 12:30 p m. Members are to make hats from flowers or leaves from their garden and wear to the meeting. Refreshments were served af ter the meeting by Mrs Heliker and Mrs Ann Lindstrom. Mrs A W McLeod received the doorl prize. The Locust chapter no 119 OES conducted the annual Memorial service at the hall Tuesday even ing, May 12 with Elaine Riet man , W M and Omar Rietmann WP presiding. Bryce Keene was a patient in the St Anthony's hospital in Pen dleton for a few days last week. Mr and Mrs George Griffith and children of McDermitt, Nev. were visitors here last week. Mr and Mrs E Markham Ba her received word from their son, Duane, in Menlo Park, Cal ifornia that a group of teen agers caved in "the top of their car while it was parked by their home. The Maranatha club met at the home of Mrs Lloyd Howton Wednesday afternoon, May 13 with Mrs Milton Morgan and Mrs Dale Ray as co-hostesses. At the meeting conducted by Mrs E Markham Baker, president a prayer was given by Mrs Baker; committees named for the pot luck dinner Sunday, May 24 were tables Mrs Phil Emert, Mrs Walter Dobyns, Mrs Carl Bergstrom and Mrs W G Melena; dinner Mrs Milton Akers, Mrs Walter Jacobs, Mrs Roy Lind strom and Mrs Gary Tullls. The Women's Retreat will be held at Camp Adams July 26 to 29. The state conference of Congregation al churches will be held in Port land beginning May 18. Mrs Al fred Nelson plans to attend. Mrs Nelson gave a very inter esting report on the Women's Fellowship meeting at Enterprise in April. Mrs Baker and Mrs Omar Rietmann also gave re ports on this meeting. For the program, Mrs Omar Rietmann gave poems and told of the mothers of the Bible and Mrs Mary Swanson also gave a read ing on mothers. Mrs Nelson and Mrs Grace Ware received the door prizes. The HEC of Willows grange met at the home of Mrs O L Lundell Friday afternoon, May 15 with Mrs Sam Esteb as co-hos tess. At the business meeting conducted by Mrs Harvey Ring, president, a letter was read from Miss Esther Kirmis, County ex- rode in the rodeo, tension agent, thanking the club Mr and Mrs John Eubanks and for the dinner served at the daughter, Sandra attended 411 Homemaker's Festival in April. The club sent a letter of thanks to Earl Morgan showing their appreciation for his work at the grange hall at the Festival. The club voted to purchase new win dow blinds and some silverware. The June meeting will be held at the Marion Palmer mountain home if the weather permits. Mrs Mabel Cotter received the door prize. Miss Sharon Cutsforth, student at the University of Oregon and queen of the Morrow county Fair and Rodeo, attended the Pea Fes tival in Milton Freewater recent ly where she and her court rode in the parade. Mr and Mrs Don ald Heliker accompanied her. Mrs Heliker is the chaperone for the group. Miss Cutsforth had her roommate as her guest. O L Lundell and Mrs Mary Swanson were honored with a coffee hour at the Lundell home Thursday afternoon, May 14 to celebrate their birthday. Others present were Mrs Lundell, Mrs Anna Lindstrom and Mr and Mrs Adon Hamlett and children. They were also honored with a din ner at the Adon Hamletts that evening and others present were Mrs O L Lundell, Mrs Anna Lindstrom, Mr and Mrs Garland, Eastern Oregon horse show and rodeo in John Day Saturday and Sunday. Sandra won several prizes among them were 1st in the barrel and stake race; 1st in the musical tire race; 3rd in the 4-H confirmation; 4th in showmanship; 4th in calf roping and 5th in horsemanship. Fred Ely went as a delegate from here to the IOOF convention, also at Roseburg. Mr and Mrs Paul Pettyjohn and children spent a few days in Portland last week. They visited Mrs Beulah Lundell while there. Mrs Herbert Peterson gave a shower at the Legion hall Thurs- pinochle party at her home Fri day evening of last week. Edi son Morgan and Mrs Hazel Wiles assisted with the gifts. The hos tesses were Mrs Lewis Ball, Mrs Leo Crabtree, Mrs Donald Ball, Mrs Ida Coleman, Mrs Joe Gaars land, and Mrs Eldon Tucker. Mrs Ray Boyce entertained the bridge club at her home Friday evening of last week. Those re ceiving prizes were Mrs Gene Hall, Mrs Ernest McCabe and Mrs Delmer Crawford, Mr and Mrs James Botts were Portland visitors last week. They brought their grandda u g h t e r, Swanson and family and Mr and Ronetta Fahl home with them Mrs Kenneth Turner and daugh ter. Mr Lundell and Mrs Swan son are twins. Mr and Mrs E Markham Baker and Mrs Omar Rietmann left Friday of last week for Eugene where they will attend the Mo thers Day weekend activities at the University and visit their children,- Mardine Baker and Larry Rietmann, students there. They saw Dr and Mrs Errett Hummel of Beaverton at Eugene. The Hummels son is a student at the University. Mr and Mrs Harold Sherer and Dick and Judy; and Mr and Mrs Leland McKlnney attended the Inter Collegiate Rodeo in Pen dleton Saturday and Sunday. Kay Sherer, one pf the princesses, Mr and Mrs David Rietmann made a trip recently to Meridan, Idaho where they visited his sis ter and family, Mr and Mrs Joe Smith. Extensive decorating is being done on the old bank building on Main street owned by Mrs Mary Swanson. The Bank of Eastern Oregon will open up in the building soon. Miss JoAnn Ingram of Pendle ton and Dennis Swanson spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs Garland Swanson and in rendleton. They are students at the University of Portland. G M Greer and Kenneth Jones were patients recently in the Pioneer Memorial hospital. day evening of last week. Mr and Mrs Howard Crowell and children made a trip to The Dalles last week. At a fireman's meeting it was decided to sound the fire siren each Monday at noon for test ing. Mr and Mrs Franklin Lind strom gave a party in honor ol their son, Private Arthur Lind strom, Tuesday evening of last week. He was home on a fur lough and left Wednesday by plane for Fort Dix, New Jersey where he will receive overseas assignment. Those present at the party were Mr and Mrs Arthur Crawford, Mr and Mrs Charles Doherty, Mr and Mrs David Ba ker, Mr and Mrs Donald Heli ker, Mr and Mrs L F Leathers, Mr and Mrs Roy Lindstrom, Mr and Mrs Verner Troedson, Mr and Mrs Denward Bergevin, Mr and Mrs Charles O'Connor, Mrs Anna Lindstrom, Gene Rietmann and Alton Yarnell. The Lindstrom's other son, Pri vate Roy Lindstrom is working in the record department at the Beaumont hospital in El Paso, Texas. Carl Troedson left last week for Los Angeles to visit relatives and will also visit Private Roy Lindstrom in El Paso, Texas.
