4-H Sunday Is Observed at lone Community Church By ECHO PALMATEER 4-H Sunday was observed at the Community church Sunday morning witn tne following pro gram: warnyn Morgan, presided Karen Lundell was the organist candle lighting by Cherilyn Smouse and Karen Nelson; invo cation by Jean Martin; welcome by Brenda Townsend; scripture by Kenneth Smouse Jr; origin of i n Dy jsandr aRhea; Fredrick 4-H oy faandra Rhea; Fredrick Martin, "Father of the Year' was presented witn an a ward by Mrs Raymond French; and Ronald Baker. "Young uutstanmng Farmer of Uma tnia County," gave a talk on "Taking Inventory;" songs were sung by the 4-H choir and by the Qulntones; the beneditcion was given by Jean Martin. Those taking the offer ing were Kenneth Smouse Jr, Jimmle Martin, Roland Berg- strom and Stephen Lindstrom; ushers were Bob Rice, Tom Mar tin, Russell Dolven, Stephen Peck, Kit George and David George. Mr and Mrs Sam Esteb en tertained at a pinochle party at their home Saturday evening of last week. Those receiving prizes were Leo ' Crabtree, high; Joe Gaarsland, 2nd high; James Mor gan, low; Elmer Petersen, 300 pinochle; Mrs Joe Gaarsland, 600 Queens and Lewis Ball the door prize. Mrs Robert Jepsen entertained the bridge club at her home Fri day evening of last week. Mrs Walter Jacobs received high; Mrs Delmer Crawford, 2nd high and Mrs Pete Cannon low. Mr and Mrs John Ray and fam ily of Irrigon spent Saturday evening at the Dale Ray home. Mrs Harold Dobyns Is visit ing relatives in Portland. Mr and Mrs Berl Akers and children spent the weekend In Forest Grove where they took in the Parents Weekend activi ties at the Pacific University. Their son, Berl, Is a student there. Mr and Mrs Wallace Matthews and daughters spent the week end in Portland. Mr and Mrs Matthews visited George and Charles Ely who are residents of the IOOF home there. They also attended the reception for for state officers at the home Sunday. Kay Sherer, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Sherer and stu dent at EOCE, has been chosen princess of the Collegiate Rodeo. These girls are chosen from col leges from 5 different states. A queen will be selected from the 5 Tuesday evening and they will be on radio In LaGrande then. The rodeo will be in Pendleton, May 16 and 17. This is a commun ity project. May 18 The Morrow county school budget will be voted on at the school, 2 to 8 P M. The 3rd grade presented a Par ents' Day Science Fair in the school cafetorium Friday after noon, May 1. The program open ed with a song by the group, "I Wonder", accompanied by Mrs Charles O'Connor on the piano. Introductions were made by their teacher, Mrs Allie Albertson, and the welcome by Maureen Mc Elligott, class president. Announ cing by Mrs Janice Snider. Hausler and Bill McLeod. Oth er songs were sung. The mothers and grandmothers were presented with corsages and the fathers with bouton nieres by the children. The children also served refreshments. The high school seniors had their progressive dinner Friday evening of last week. They first went to the home of Mr and Mrs Clell Rea for cocktails; then to the home of Mr and Mrs Paul Pettyjohn for salads with Mrs Arnie Hedman assisting; to the Lawrence Jones' for the main meal with Mrs Lewis Ball assist ing and to the Lloyd Howton home for dessert and a party, Mrs Darrell Padberg assisted. The parents of the seniors were also present at the party. Mrs Allie Albertson ''and Miss Carolina Schlafmann spent the weekend in Milton -Freewater where they attended the Wallowa county picnic Sunday. Mr and Mrs Rod Kvistad and son or tseaverton were visitors at the home of her parents, Judge and Mrs Oscar Peterson last week. Mrs Franklin Ely recently at tended Delta Kappa Gamma state convention in Pendleton. Mrs Etta Huston is attending the Federation of Garden Clubs national convention in St Louis, Missouri. Guests at the E Markham Ba ker home Sunday were Mr and Mrs Ronald Baker and daughter of Hermiston and Mr and Mrs Charles Hoover and family of Pendleton, Mr and Mrs Ralph Crum and faimly spent Sunday at the home of her brother and family, Mr and Mrs Lee Straham in Pen dleton. Sandra Eubanks, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Eubanks, rode in the stake races in the Ar lington rodeo over the weekend with the Heppner Wranglers. The Wranglers raced with the Arling ton Saddle Club and the Uma tilla Sage Riders. The Wranglers won and received a silver buck le. Dick Sherer spent the weekend in Odessa, Wash. He attended the Blossom show in Wenatchee and was accompanied by Miss Margo Bartlamay from Odessa. Mrs Etta Huston of lone and Mrs Rose Rawlins of Anoka, Minnesota are the grandparents. Private Rudy Bergstrom, son of Mr and Mrs William Berg strom, who Is in the Army Is stationed in Germany. Mrs Peter Timm of Pendleton and a group from Umatilla coun ty extension attended the Home maker's Festival in lone last week. They brought an exhibit from the 'Uklah Extension Unit consisting of baskets made of pine needles, ornaments from tin cans, etc. Others coming from a distance to the festival who were former residents here were Mr and Mrs Frank Young and Mr and Mrs Oral Scott of Hermiston and Mrs John Vaughn of Portland. Mrs Vaughn visited her aunt, Mrs Ida Grabill and other relatives. Mrs Larry Schaad of Irrigon, who vis ited her. father, Harold Dobyns and Mrs Dobyns. Mr and Mrs Eugene Newlin of Seattle visited his grandmother, Mrs Ellen Rieth and his aunt, Mrs Stella O'Meara last week. Jerry Bristow, a teacher at Brookings, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr and Mrs t, w Bristow. He was accompan ied by two hl2h school bovs. Bill j Guthrie and Bill Workinger. The i U v n . mire went to L.a uranae to visit the college there. Mr and Mrs Ernest McCabe and family spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Tom Bristow in Port land. Mrs Art Warren gave a birth day party in honor of her daugh ter, Darlene, Wednesday after noon, April 29. She was 6 years old. Others present were Ricky and D'Ann Barnctt, Ricky Boyce, Richard Hamlett, Kathy and Carol Holtz. Debbie.
