Mrs Douglas Drake was ap pointed chairman of the father son banquet to be held soon, with Mrs Kenneth Keeling, Mrs William Turner and Mrs Alfred Lovgren as planning committee. Mrs Lucille Owens gave a taiK on several of the new indepen dent countries who are not mem bers of the United Nations. Mrs Robbins presided and the hostesses served refreshments. Mrs O'Brien Has High Score At Bridge Club The Kings Little Queens bridge club was entertained at the home of Mrs Philip Blakney Wednes day evening. Her guests were Mrs Harry O'Donnell Jr, Mrs Clint McQuar rie, Mrs Harry Bongers, Mrs Paul Koenig, Mrs John Williams, Mrs Bob Brindle, Mrs Les Wyman, Mrs Jerry Daggett, Mrs Herb Hamilton, Mrs Fred Prussing, Mrs Bill Blake, Mrs Pat O'Brien, and Mrs Jim Bruce. First prize for the evening went to Mrs O'Brien, second prize went to Mrs Blake, and Mrs Wyman won low. Traveling prize was won by Mrs Koenig. Refresh ments were served. Earl Blake Surprised By Shack Warming Earl Blake, who has just com pleted a new "Ham Shack" to house his amateur radio equip ment was surprised Saturday evening with a shack warming when ham radio fans and their families called at his ranch home. Those attending were Mr and Mrs Stanley Holm and children, Mr and Mrs Loyal Parker, Mr and Mrs Glenn Way, Mr and Mrs Robert Penland, Neal Penland, Clarence Baker, Ray Smith, Ralph Taylor, Fred Gimbel, Mickey Van Schoiack and Mr and Mrs Blake. Refreshments were served dur ing the evening by Mrs Blake and Mrs Holm. 9 Lirpa Loof Ytrap Deyojne Yb Sregener The Renegers Bridge club was entertained Wednesday evening with a Lirpa Loof day party at the home of Mrs Xela Nospmoht Her guests were the Mesdames Ylreveb Nosrednug, Esiuol Yel raf, Eneri Nosliw, Lerual Nav- Retram, Nyrhtak Bbew, En eg Esac, EikcaJ Trahbal, Al Enryf Ttarp, Zeni Rodaem, Kroc Ener on, and Einnob Trarrab. A Lirpa Loof theme was carried throughout the evening with "various and sundry" prizes going to all those present. High winner for the evening was Mrs NavRetram, prize for second high went to Mrs Esac and low was tied by Mrs Yelraf and Mrs Nosrednug. lone Sorority Elects Mrs Peterson As President For Year The monthly business meeting of Beta Omega chapter of Ep silon Sigma Alpha was held at the home of Mrs Betty Hausler April 1. Mrs Irene Leathers gave a re port on the district council meet ing held in Wallowa, March 22. She reported that the September district council meeting would be held in lone. The chapter voted to give a $25 scholarship to 4-H summer school. Plans were discussed for the annual banquet in May. The Morrow County Grain Growers have furnished the chapter 750 ball point pens and the Heppner- Morrow County Chamber of Com merce furnished 750 brochures to be given as favors at the Inter national convention in Portland in July. Election of officers for the com ing year was held. The officers elected were president, Mrs Mar tha Peterson; vice president, Mrs Mary McLeod; recording secre tary, Mrs Joanne Warren; treas urer, Mrs Donna Peterson; cor responding secretary, Mrs Rosetta Palmateer. The co-hostesses were Mrs Gladys Heliker, Mrs Maravene White and Mrs Palmateer. Mrs Donna Peterson led the educational program, "What's new in science. The social committee was hos tess for a very nice spaghetti dinner Saturday evening, April 4 at the Masonic hall for mem bers and their husbands. The Delta Rho chapter of Heppner and their husbands were Invited guests. 45 attended the dinner, The tables were cleverly decor ated in the Centennial theme with kerosene lamps, covered wagon nut cups, forts were also used. Many were dressed in Cen tennial costumes. Extension Unit Has Fish Demonstration The Rhea Creek Extension unit held their regular meeting April 1 at the grange hall. Twenty three members were present. Mrs Walter Wright and Mrs John Bergstrom prepared and demonstrated a delicious fish dinner. The menu consisted of salmon cooked outside over coals, oven fried fillets, stuffed fillets, shrimp kabobs, chip dip and tar tare sauce, crab cocktail, green salad, rolls, ice cream and coffee. The afternoon meeting elected the following officers for next year; Mrs John Graves, presi dent; Mrs Claud White, vice president; Mrs Myron Rill, sec retary and Mrs Orin Wright, treasurer. Mrs Ray Wright won the door prize. Halls Entertain Saturday Evening Mr and Mrs Gene Hall enter tained at their home Saturday evening with a no host crab feed and evening of cards. Their guests were Mr and Mrs Gordon Pratt, Mr and Mrs Eddie Gunderson, Mr and Mrs Clint Agee, and Mr and Mrs Jim Mai-Ion. Dinner was served at a table decorated with heirloom dishes and an old fashioned garden bouquet, with place cards with sketches depicting each guest as they would have appeared 100 years, ago. Each guest had to find his or her own card. Their guests were Mr and Mrs Jack Bedford, Mr and Mrs Frank lin Hamlin, Mr and Mrs Mer vin Leonard of Lexington, and Mr and Mrs Barratt Pathfinder Club Has Cookout Sunday The Pathfinders club went on a cookout on Rock Creek Sunday afternoon as a reward for those who had completed their Friend Class requirements. Those who qualified were Don Clark, Jr, David Clark, Bill Wag ner, Peggy Way, and Bob Hager. The five counselors who sup ervised the cookout were Dr and Mrs C M Wagner, Mr and Mrs Harry Ring, and Glenn Way. Soroptimist Club Has Business Meeting The Soroptimist Club of Hepp ner held Its regular monthly business meeting Thursday at O'Donnell's. Mrs E E Gonty gave a report on the Easter Seal drive and Mrs Frank Connor reported on the teenage party at the Elks re cently. Committee reports were given and the next meeting will be celebrated as the eleventh birth day of the club, which was chart ered April 10, 1948. Mrs Cohn Entertains Whats Trumps Club Mrs Harold Cohn entertained the Whats Trumps bridge club for a salad luncheon at her home last Wednesday afternoon. Guests were Mrs Allen Case, Mrs James Thomson, Mrs Con ley Lanham, Mrs Gene Ferguson, Mrs Bruce spencer, Mrs Jari Blake, Mrs Tom Wilson, Mrs L D Tibbies, Mrs E K Schaff itz, Mrs Robert Penland, Mrs Lowell uriD ble and Mrs Harlan McCurdy. Mrs Tibbies was high for the afternoon, Mrs Wilson was sec ond, Mrs Thomson, third and Mrs Spencer low. 12 Tables In Play At Elks Ladies Night Twelve tables were In play at the Elks lodee ladies night Thursday evening, with officers wives in charge. In bridtre Mrs LaVerne Van Marter won high for the even ing, and Mrs Harry Tamblyn was second. Mrs Kalister left Sunday morn ing for her home in St Louis, Missouri. IONE School Notes Leann Padberg has been chos en as valedictorian and Kenneth Jones salutatorian of the lone High school. The school band received a 1 at the musical festival at La- Grande Saturday. Arnie Hedman is their leader. Those from here who took part in the district high school speech league competition in LaGrande Saturday were Marilyn Morgan, Paula Barak, Grant Rlgby, who all placed 5th; Greg Leyva, Lin da Halvorsen, Linda Heimblgner, Jean Martin and Bob Akers. Gil bert Lujan had charge of the students from here. Miss Karen Lundell has been chosen second alternate in the "Music In May piano audition, playing Mendelssohn s Caprlccio Brillante. This was held In the Marsh hall chapel on Pacific University campus at Forest Grove, April 4. She will accom pany a 230 voice chorus at the concert and the radio net-work broadcast Saturday, May 9. All three winners will be guests of the University for three days, May 7, 8 and 9. At the festival more than 500 young musicians and vocalists from Oregon and Washington high schools will gather on Pa cific University campus for the 12th annual spring serenade.
