Heppnek Gazette - lone Rebekahs Hear UN Essay . By ECHO PALMATEER Paula Bara gave her United Nations essay at the Bunchgrass lodge meeting Thursday even ing, March 19. After the business meeting a birthday party was held for those having birthday's during the past three months. Those present having birth days were Mrs Clell Rea, Mrs Lewis Ball, Mrs Fannie Griffin, E R Lundell and Fred Ely. The hostesses were Mrs Mary Swan son, Mrs Adon Hamlett, Mrs Ida Coleman, Mrs Harvey Ring and Mrs Walter Roberts. The H E C of Willows grange met at the home of Mrs Wate Crawford Friday, March 20 with Mrs Harvey Ring as co-hostesses. A luncheon was served at 12:30 P M. At the business meeting with Mrs Ring, chairman, a re port was given on the Elks an nual dinner by Mrs Lewis Hal vorsen; plans were made for the luncheon to be served at the Homemakers Festival at the grange hall, April 30 by the HEC. The committees are, for the din ner, Mrs Ring, Mrs Halvorsen, Mrs John Eubanks and Mrs Crawford; for the tables, Mrs Harold Dobyns, Mrs Marion Pal mer, Mrs Leo Crabtree, Mrs Don ald Heliker and Mrs Lee Palmer. Mrs Stella O'Meara received the door prize. The Arnica cluD met at the home of Mrs Lewis Halvorsen Wednesday afternoon, March 18 with Mrs Clyde Crawford and Mrs Richard Rea as hostesses. Mrs Arlie Rahn and daugh ters, Cathy and Robin of Seattle are spending this week with her parents, Mr and Mrs Cecil Thome. The American Legion members held their annual spring dance at the Legion hall Saturday even ing. This was preceded by a ban quet at Stefani's Fine Food's for Legionnaires, their wives and friends. There were 45 at the banquet. Robert DeSpain attended the funeral services of his grand mother, Mrs Minnie Starmer in Albany Thursday of last week. Mr and Mrs Gaylord Salter and family of Milton-Freewater spent the spring vacation at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs Hugh Salter. He is a teacher In the Umaplne schools. Mrs Betty Lleuallen has moved to Cascade Locks. Mr and Mrs County .nc Times i Robert DeSpain and sons helped her to move Saturday. Mrs Gordon White was a re cent visitor in Portland. Mr and Mrs Ted . Palmateer and daughter, Janet, spent the weekend in Portland. Their son, ! Ronnie, stayed with his grand mother, Mrs Annie Healy in Heppner. auu mia and Mrs Jack Barak and Mrs Wallace Matthews attended the United Nations Pilgrimage essay contest in Pendleton Saturday evening. Paula Barak, Junior in the lone high school, was one of the contestants. The Willows grange meeting was held at their hall Sunday with a Dotluck dinner at noon with Mrs Harvey Ring and Mrs Wate Crawford in charge. At the meeting It was voted to hold uranpc on their regular meeting nights the 3rd Saturday of the month. Mrs James undsay was presented with a 25 year Jewel by Mrs Ernest Heliker. For the program, Linda Halvorsen and Sharon Crabtree sang "Easter Parade"; The girls were also in a skit with Leo Crabtree: Mrs .Lewis Halvorsen gave a reading of the dogwood ana games were played. House guests at the Lewis Hal vorsen home over the weekend were Miss Judy Mason and Miss Marjorie Putman, students at Pa cific University. Miss Putman is from Vermont. Mrs Francis Ely of Salem re cently underwent surgery in a hospital there. Tom and Joe McElligott, sons of Mr and Mrs Richard McElli gott, recently underwent tonsil lectomies at the St Anthony's hospital in Pendleton. Teachers and their families going away during the spring vacation were, Mr and Mrs Dal las Shockley and children and Miss Carolina Sch 1 a f m a n n to Portland, Mr and Mrs Don Bro strom and sons to Monmouth, Mr and Mrs Joe Hausler and children to Salerrr, and Mrs Allie Albertson to LaGrande. Mr and Mrs Franklin Ely spent Sunday in Portland. Some of the teach ers attended the OEA in Port land. Mr and Mrs Garland Swanson and sons, John and Jim, and Mrs Mary Swanson spent the weekend In Portland. They at tended a dinner at the Areo club there In honor of Mrs Swanson who was the Mother of the Year in Morrow county. Others present were Mr and Mrs Elmo Swan son of Salem, Mr and Mrs Nor man Swanson and family, Den nis Swanson and Miss JoAnn Engram of Portland. Mrs Mary Swanson went on to Salem for a visit. Mr and Mrs Dean Rohde of Echo spent Sunday with her par ents, Mr and Mrs Victor Riet mann and other relatives. Dinner guests at the Lloyd Howton home Sunday were Mr and Mrs A L Kibben, and Mr and Mrs Walter Oberst of Pasco, Wash, and Mr and Mrs Art Smith of Grandview, Wash.
