I gociAL Happenings Mothers Club Has Centennial Program The Mothers club met Monday, March 2, at the home of Mrs Nels Anderson. During the short business meeting it was announ ced that the Spring Tea would be held at the home of Mrs Ray. Smith. Mrs Anderson introduced three special guests, Miss Opal Briggs, Mrs Lee Scrivner, and Mrs Frank Parker, who presented a very in teresting Centennial program about the history of Heppner. Miss Briggs and Mrs Scrivner both wore the dresses worn on their graduation days, and all showed pictures and momentoes of early Heppner. Guests of Mothers club includ ed Mrs Bruce Spencer, Mrs Dean Shaver, and Mrs Ken Palmer. Mrs Anderson and Mrs Robert Abrams served the refreshments. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs Elmer Schmidt with Mrs L L Robbins as co-hostess. Marsha Lovgren Has Ninth Birthday Party Marsha Lovgren celebrated her ninth birthday with a luncheon party at the home of her par ents, Mr and Mrs Marshall Lov gren on Saturday. Her guests were Jennifer Blake, Verla Hershell, Phyllis Everly, Kim Valentine, Kathy Matthews, Helen Anderson, Debra Young, and Vickie Robinson. Games were played and they also went on a short hike. When they returned from the hike they enjoyed birthday cake and Ice cream in the afternoon. Here guests were Mesdames Herb Hamilton, Les Wyman, Glen Ward, Fred Prussing, Jim Bruce, Pat O'Brien, Paul Koenlg, Gene Pierce, Harry Bongers, Al Mattoon, Bill Blake, and Bill Glennie. High score for the evening was held by Mrs Wyman, Jack high went to Mrs O'Brien, and low was won by Mrs Prussing. Mrs Anderson Has High Score At Club Mrs 0 E Wright entertained the pinochle club at her home Friday afternoon. Those attending were Mrs Ben Anderson, Mrs Fred Mankin, Mrs Walter Becket, Mrs Earl Evans, Mrs Max Bushke, Mrs Max Har ris and Mrs Robert Lowe. Mrs Anderson won high for the afternoon, Mrs Evans was low and double pinochle prizes went to Mrs Anderson and Mrs Beck et Shower Given For George Rugg Family Mr and Mrs George Rugg were honored with a miscellaneous household shower given by Ruth chapter No 32, OES last week. They received many lovely and useful gifts, given by the many friends that attended the show er. It was decided that a Centennial Ball will be held Sat urday, April 4, from 9:30 p m to 1:00 a m in the lone Legion hall. Mrs Paul Koenie and Mrs John Williams are In charge of the music and Mrs Ray Llndstrom is chairman of the ticket com mittee. Mrs Wallace Wolff and Mrs Jack Van Winkle will pro mote advertlsine and publicity while Mrs Clint McQuarrle, Mrs Cecil Thome. Mrs Omar Riet- mann, and Mrs Harry Bongers will take care of refreshments and decorations. Entertainment for the evening is in charge of Mrs C C Jones and Mrs Kenneth Palmer. Gene Pierce will be master of ceremonies for an evening of fun, frolic, and dancing the Cen tennial way. Special acts such as singing and square dancing at Intermission will be high lighted by the grand march at 10:00 p m. All women attending the ball are encouraged to wear Centen nial gowns while the hostesses will provide moustaches or beards for the gentlemen re-1 questing them. Cash prizes will be given for the three Centennial gowns chosen best by the judges. Refreshments will be available i during the evening. Dinner Party Honors Sixth Birthday Harry Bongers, Jr celebrated his sixth birthday with a dinner party Thursday evening at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs Harry Bongers. His guests were Philip, Susie, Mark, Sally and Stephen Blak ney, Terry Hughes, Teresa Moore, and Susie and Kirk Koenlg. Tuesday Bridge Club Meets At Prock Home Mrs Jimmy Prock entertained her bridge club at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs Wayne Prock last Tuesday evening. Her guests were Mrs Fred Glm bel, Mrs Del Jordan, Mrs Glen Ward, Mrs Carl Thorpe, Mrs Mar lon Green, Mrs Don Bennett, and Mrs Wayne Prock. A memorial ser vice for Florence Sweet by Fan nie McGraw and preparations were discussed for the Alpha Rho state convention at Pendleton, April 24-26. Morrow county members at tending were Joyce Smith, Ruth Bently, Zoe Billings, LaVern Partlow, Gladys Ely and Velva Bechdolt. BAUMAN. Sheriff & Tax Collector Heppner HEC to Plan For Coming Festival The Heppner extension unit met March 10 at the home of Mrs William Heath where the project leaders, Mrs Richard Meador and Mrs Merritt Gray gave an interesting demonstra tion on "New Fabrics and Fin ishes." Mrs Paul Warren was chosen as county committee representa tive for the Heppner unit to re place Mrs Al Fetsch, who has resigned. The April meeting will be at the country home of Mrs Doug Drake and will start with a lun cheon at 12:30. The afternoon will be spent planning for the homemakers Festival, electing officers and business meeting. Mrs Ray Drake, Mrs Lee Scriv ner, Mrs R G McMurtry, and Mrs Paul Warren will represent the Heppner unit at the beaded tile workshop In Pine City, March 24. Members and guests' present were, Mesdames Gene Ferguson, Ray Drake, Frank Davidson, R G McMurtry, Keithley Blake, Doug Drake, Lee Scrivner, Paul Warren, Paul Rauen, Merritt Gray, Richard Meador and Wil liam Heath. Ladies Night Held Thursday At Elks Ladles night was held last Thursday evening at the Elks club, and the hostesses for the evening were Mrs Riley Munkers, Mrs Ned Sweek, Mrs Don Ben nett, Mrs Don Bellenbrock, and Mrs Howard Pettyjohn. Mrs Jack Healy was chairman for the ev ening. In bridge, Mrs Grace Nicker son won high, Mrs Loyal Parker second high, and Mrs Gene Fer guson low. Mrs Walter Becket was high In pinochle, Mrs Charles Becket second high, and low was won by Mrs Alfred Lovgren. Door prize was received by Mrs W M Fisher who is visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs Tom Wilson. Duplicate Club Meets At Van Marter Home Mr and Mrs LaVerne Van Mar ter entertained the Duplicate bridge club Sunday evening at their home. Those attending were, Mr and Mrs L E Dick, Mr and Mrs Gor don Pratt, Mr and Mrs C E Mc Quarrle, Mr and Mrs Richard Meador, Mr and Mrs Tom Wilson, Dr and Mrs Wallace Wolff, and Mr and Mrs Lowell Grlbble. Mr Van Marter and Dr Wolff were high couple for the evening and Mrs Wolff and Mr Pratt were second high. Mrs Webb Entertains Renegers Bridge Club The Renegers bridge club was entertained at the home of Mrs Paul Webb Wednesday evening. HEPPNER GAZETTE -TIMES, Thursday. March 12. 1959 Rhea Creek HEC Studies Fabrics Seventeen members of the Rhea Creek extension unit met March 4 at the home of Mrs John Graves. During the morning meeting plans were discussed for the festival which will have an old fashioned theme and many women are now making Centen nial dresses. In the afternoon, Mrs Elmer Palmer and Mrs Graves demon strated the subject "New Fab rics and Finishes." Questions and answers were read concern ing the new fashions for 1959 and it was reported that some of the women thought they had the required bulges for the 1959 styles, but found they were In the wrong places. Mrs Graves and Mrs Palmer explained the history, buying and care of cottons, linens, silks, woolens, rayons, nylons, dacrons, etc. Dacron was said to be one of the most dependable fabrics in the man-made fiberous ma terials catagory. The April 1 meeting will In elude election of officers. The door prize was won by Mrs Walt er Wright. Whats Trumps Meets At Wilson Home Mrs Tom Wilson was hostess last Wednesday afternoon for the What's Trumps bridge club. Guests were Mrs Harold Cohn, Mrs Claude Graham, Mrs Allen Case, Mrs P W Mahoney, Mrs Lowell Gribble, Mrs Conley Lan- ham, Mrs E K Schaffitz, Mrs L D Tibbies, Mrs Gene Ferg uson, Mrs Robert Penland, and Mrs James Thomson.
